First images of the 2014 Mercedes S Class crash testing emerge

The all New 2014 Mercedes S Class was unveiled to the world on May 15. While we know that Mercedes gives safety a huge priority, the new S Class is packed with even more safety features.

For example, the seatbelts themselves have airbags in them! While driving at low speeds, the S Class will automatically brake and come to a stop should there be a pedestrian or some obstruction in its way that the driver isn’t responding to.

The New S Class features an improved aluminium body shell which promises 50% better torsional rigidity than the outgoing model. Mercedes has been constantly improving the car’s frame and in the last 20 years, Mercedes has been packing more features and equipment into the S Class but without increasing its weight.

In the new S Class, Mercedes has given extra importance to pedestrian safety. The car’s bonnet is optimized to impart minimal injuries to the pedestrians, should there be an accident. A feature called the Active Bonnet is being used and this raises the bonnet by up to 80mm before the person’s body impacts the bonnet, thereby providing an elevated surface promising minimum injuries.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class production commences at the Sindelfingen Plant

Daimler AG has started production of their flagship model, the 2014 S-Class at its Sindelfingen plant in Germany. The company is investing around one billion euros this year in order to incorporate the production of the new model at the existing facility.

Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars said, “2013 is the year of the S-Class. We are driving forward our model offensive in the luxury segment.” The new S-Class is not intended to solely replace the current model, but also fill the void created by the discontinued Maybach models owned by Daimler AG.

The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class was officially presented to the public on 15th of May, 2013, in Hamburg. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will come with a 3.0-liter V6 engine in the S350 BlueTEC, which is good for 258bhp and 620Nm of torque, 4.7-liter V8 petrol producing 455bhp and 700Nm of torque in the S500 and a 3.5-liter V6 with 306bhp and 370Nm of torque, in the S400 Hybrid. Like its predecessor, the new S-Class is fully loaded when it comes to features and technologies such as autonomous driving ability, two 12.3-inch TFT screens for the instrument cluster and navitainment, a touch-sensitive telephone keypad, rear climate control with two more zones to name just a few.

Re: Mercedes Benz New S-Class (2013)

2014 Mercedes S Class Pullman, Extended Long Wheelbase to debut in May 2014

Mercedes Benz had announced that there would be three additional models on the new 2014 Mercedes S Class platform, apart from the standard and the long wheelbase variant. The first of these models will be the S Class Coupé (likely to be shown in Frankfurt in September).

Another model to be spawned by the S Class would be the Maybach-replacing S Class Extended wheelbase: A longer and even more luxurious version of the S Class long wheelbase. The S Class EWB will see the Rolls Royce Ghost as it’s chief rival. Underneath, the Ghost is actually a longer BMW 7 Series itself.

Mercedes Passion Blog reports that the S Class EWB has been codenamed the ‘X222′. The X222 EWB could feature a 30-35 cm extended wheelbase than the long wheelbase variant of the S Class (codenamed the V222, which is already 13 cm longer than the W222).

It is likely to debut by May 2014. There is sound logic to this statement. We know that the Shanghai Motor Show would be conducted in the last week of April. China is also a very strong market for such limousines and Mercedes may want to show the car to its prospective customers first.

Mercedes is also planning a Pullman variant of the S Class which will feature 3 rows of seats (one row being in the opposite side). The Pullman is likely to feature a 100 cm extended wheelbase and has been codenamed the VV222.

New Mercedes-Benz S-Class has gone on-sale in UK

The most advanced and luxurious Mercedes-Benz, the new S-Class, is now put on sale in the UK. The new S-Class is tagged at £62,650 OTR (Rs. 5823249.98). The S-Class is known for its technology standard, pioneering safety, comfort and engineering features such as ABS, anti-lock brakes, SRS airbag, ESP, catalytic converters and Night View Assist. The new S-Class promises to continue to raise the benchmark in efficiency, in comfort, refinement and personalization.

With a three engine line up of one diesel, one petrol and one petrol hybrid - S 350 BlueTEC, S 400 Hybrid and S 500 - the new range also offers two trim choices of SE Line and AMG Line, as well as the standard and long wheelbase options, with UK production commencing in September ahead of deliveries in October. The new S-Class offers up to a nine per cent increase in power over the outgoing W 221 model (to 333bhp for the S 400 Hybrid), 18 per cent reduction in CO2 (147 g/km for the S 400 Hybrid) and 22 per cent improvement in fuel consumption (44.8 mpg for the S 400 Hybrid).

The new S-Class also comes with features such as the reversing camera, Command Online NTG 5, full LED Intelligent Light System, DAB digital radio and keyless start. Moreover, the car also comes equipped with Magic Vision Control, the innovative wash/wipe system that applies washer fluid directly in front of the wiper blades to minimise waste and obstruction to the driver, enhanced AirMATIC full air suspension system with continuously adaptive damping control delivering a composed ride while retaining the ability to lower at speed or rise by 30mm should it be required during low speed manoeuvres, and COMAND Online NTG 5 – the latest generation of telematics – all as standard.

The Magic Body Control suspension system debuts on the new S-Class – an option on the S 500. Linked to the new Road Surface Scan system, Magic Body Control uses a stereo camera located on the top edge of the windscreen to scan the road up to 15-metres ahead, allowing it to model a precise image of the road surface.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes equipped with a pair of high-resolution TFT screens measuring 307 mm diagonally. Three different seat packages are available in the rear – ranging from three seats finished in high quality leather to two individual seats complete with the ability seats to recline to an angle of 43.5 degrees. Furthermore, the seats can, if desired, simulate a hot stone massage for even greater comfort and the armrests can be heated.

Mercedes-Benz new S-Class ‘Pullman’ to compete with Phantom

Mercedes-Benz has officially announced the all new S-Class along with its various wheel-base variants. To top that, Daimler has now confirmed that they plan to introduce the ultra-luxury saloon based on the EWB (Extended Wheel Base) version of the S-Class to rival the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The Pullman will aim at occupying the throne at the top of the Mercedes-Benz realm, a position vacated by the company’s discontinued Maybach brand. As a result, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the Pullman with unique stylised touches which include a characteristic grille aimed at giving the Saloon a royal aura.

All the variants of the four-door S-Class will available in the British market from October, followed by the CL-Class replacing S-Class coupe scheduled for 2014. Indian launch of the S-Class is expected to be towards the end of this year, but there is no information yet if we will see the CL-Class on Indian roads.

The Pullman on the other hand would come to India, though with a hefty price tag. The European spec Pullman is expected to cost in excess of EU 200,000 (Rs 1.57 crore) and since the model will arrive in India as CBUs (Completely Built Units), the price will be at least two times, considering the current tax regime.

2014 Mercedes S Class Plug-in Hybrid emits fewer CO2 than Prius

The 2014 Mercedes Benz S Class recently entered production in the Sindelfingen plant in Germany. The all new S Class is currently on sale with a single diesel engine and a couple of petrol engines.

Mercedes is planning to launch the Plug-in Hybrid version of the new S Class at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. In fact, this has been confirmed as the show’s premiere list displays the Mercedes S500 Plug in Hybrid as one of the world premieres.

The car that you see here is the S500 Plug in Hybrid, which was showcased at the media launch of the S Class in Toronto, Canada.

The S500 Plug-in will combine a V6 petrol engine along with an electric motor and a battery pack. The battery will be mounted in the boot of the car. While the power and performance figures are still unknown, it is believed that Mercedes would be targeting a sub 70g/km CO2 emission making this the cleanest S Class ever made.

To put things in perspective, the Porsche Panamera Hybrid does 71g/km while two of the three Toyota Prius do 89g/km and 96g/km. If Mercedes achieves this figure, the S Class would be greener and cleaner than a Toyota Prius!!

2014 Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman spotted

Mercedes-Benz has an aggressive strategy for its new line-up and their flagship S-Class seems to be in the forefront with the 2014 S-Class that was unveiled in Germany recently. There have been talks about five different variants for the S-Class with the resurrection of the Pullman being the most awaited. Following this news, the new 2014 S-Class Pullman was spotted with minimal camouflauge in Germany.

The Pullman variant is basically a stretched out version of the already lengthy EWB S-Class, and will be approximately 15-30cm longer than the standard version of the S-Class. The Pullman will have longer C-pillars and longer rear doors and will pave way for Mercedes-Benz to re-enter the ultra-luxury auto market which is currently Rolls-Royce territory.

The S600 Pullman is likely be powered by a twin turbocharged V12 engine, which is expected to produce 610PS of power and will be mated to the company’s dual-clutch automatic transmission. The model will also receive a hybrid version which will be available in the market a few months after the Pullman launch.

The S600 Pullman is set to be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and prices are expected to start at 2,00,000 euros (Rs 1.55 crore). If and when the model comes to India it will come at a much heavier price thanks to the import duties on CBUs (Completely Built Units)resulting in a minimum of Rs 3.2 crore ex-showroom.

2014 Mercedes S63 AMG revealed; packs 585bhp and 900Nm!

The 2014 Mercedes Benz S63 AMG has been revealed today and this is it. After a video leak and countless digital renderings, we finally get to see the performance oriented version of the world’s best car.

The S63 packs a 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine, which is also seen in the 2014 E63 AMG. Power output is rated at 585bhp while the torque is tuned to 900Nm!….from 2,250rpm mind you.

There are three versions of the S63 available. The short wheelbase version, the long wheelbase and the long wheelbase with 4MATIC four wheel drive.

Where the 4MATIC does the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.0 seconds, the other two versions take 4.4 seconds. Top speed is restricted to 250km/h.

An AMG 7-speed SPEEDSHIFT gearbox with three transmission modes for sports, comfort and efficiency handles the transmission duties

The S63 would average 10.1 liters per 100km (9.9km/l) which seems pretty impressive. The 4MATIC emits 242g of CO2 per km while the other versions emit 237g/km.the S63 would average 10.1 liters per 100km (9.9km/l) which seems pretty impressive. Spied – 2014 Mercedes S Class Coupe gets hot weather tested in Death Valley

The 2014 Mercedes Benz S Class Coupé was recently spied undergoing a hot weather test in Death Valley, USA. This image was snapped by Steve Cannon.

The 2014 S Class would see a range of cars in its portfolio. Mercedes has already introduced the regular and the long wheelbase variants while the performance oriented S63 AMG was also announced very recently. The next model in the S Class lineup is the two-door coupé that you see here. The S Class coupé would be replacing the CL Class once it goes on sale.

Mercedes seems to be conducting hot weather testing of the S Class coupé in the Death Valley. Even the GLA crossover is currently being tested there. The S Class coupé seems production ready with its entire exterior design finalized. The interiors are expected to resemble the S Class sedan.

Expect the S Class coupé to have the same range of engines as the S Class. That would be one diesel engine and a couple of petrol engines with hybrid technology.

The S Class coupé could have its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show or even at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

2014 Mercedes S Class official accessories

The official accessories for the 2014 Mercedes Benz S Class has been released and here it is . Starting from getting your bicycles on board to having a tissue box made from calfskin, Mercedes has thought of it all, it seems.

1. Wheels: You have options ranging from 17 to 20-inches. Choose wisely!

2. Apps for the COMMAND system: You can download apps such as Morning Star Finance or an app that will search for an available parking spot nearby. Mercedes has a dedicated App Store for this.

3. Perfumes: 4 interior fragrances developed by specialist Marc vom Ende. Intensity can be varied through three stages.

4. Cycle carrier: Not sure how many S Class owners own bicycles and use them, but if they do rest assured the optional trailer can accommodate two or three cycles. Additionally, you can also mount two on the roof.

5. AMG accessories: These are for those who cannot afford the S63 AMG but would like to show off nonetheless. AMG kits offer you a modified front apron, door sills, rear apron and some forged alloy wheels.

6. Italian made wool and blanket: Both contain a lot of cashmere and come in a fine satin light-colored bag. With Mercedes branding of course.

7. Limited Edition Pen: Yes, Mercedes is offering this limited edition pen (only 1,000 will be made!). The pen is made in stainless steel, finished in platinum and gets a 14-carat gold nib.

Re: Mercedes Benz New S-Class (2013)

Mercedes S65 AMG, arriving next year

The 2014 Mercedes Benz S63 AMG was recently announced and it will have its world debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. However, that an even powerful Mercedes S65 AMG is being planned by the Swabians.

Where the S63 AMG had its power coming from a 5.5-liter V8 Bi-Turbo,the S65 would get the famed Mercedes V12 engine! A power output of somewhere north of 630PS is being promised. The S63 on the other hand produces 585bhp which is identical to the 2014 E63 AMG S.

Where the V12 would truly establish its dominance is in the torque figure. The S65 will get at least 1,000Nm of torque! We use the word ‘at least’ as the 5.5-liter V8 Bi-Turbo itself produces 900Nm of torque in the S63. The added four cylinders should equate to more than 100Nm of torque even without a remap.

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7-speed automatic transmission would most likely send power to all four wheels via the Mercedes 4MATIC system. A 0-100km/h time of less than 4 seconds is targeted.

If you want the V12 engine without the AMG package, an S600 variant is also planned. The S65 and the S600 could be launched in the first quarter of 2014. A mega Mercedes press conference is in order at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show!
