The Cadillac Escalade is redesigned for 2021 with an attractive new exterior design that takes inspiration from the Escala sedan concept. Its interior also takes a step up thanks to more luxurious materials and a large OLED infotainment screen. The full-size luxury SUV continues to share its underpinnings with its Chevy and GMC siblings, the Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon, which means it also adopts a new independent rear suspension setup that promises improved ride and handling and more interior space.

The Escalade has grown on the outside, too. Cadillac stretched the wheelbase by 4.9 inches in the standard-length model and by 4.1 inches in the Escalade ESV (i.e., the long-wheelbase trim). The SUV's body is 7.1 inches longer than the outgoing model's; 2.6 inches longer in the case of the extended-wheelbase edition. That extra length, combined with the packaging benefit of the new rear suspension, helps increase cargo room by 11 cubic feet compared with the previous Escalade's sedanlike 15 cubes. ESV models gain four cubic feet for a total of 43 behind the third row.

Electric Cadillac Escalade Coming by 2025

The Cadillac Escalade—that gas-guzzling, leather-lined totem to excess—is going electric. The electrified Escalade will go on sale by 2025 at the latest. Fans of the current Escalade's 6.2-liter V-8 shouldn't worry too much, though. GM president Mark Reuss says the electric version will supplement, rather than replace, the Escalade as we currently know it.

The full-size SUV will be built on GM's new electric architecture and use its new Ultium battery technology. That architecture allows for battery packs as large as 200.0-kWh, which is twice the energy capacity of the largest pack offered in the longest-range Tesla Model X. Sharing hardware with the upcoming GMC Hummer EV SUT pickup and SUV, the Escalade could make as much as 1000 hp using a three-motor setup driving both the front and rear axles.

For 2021, Cadillac Escalade ESV Has 18 Percent More Cargo Space

The Cadillac Escalade ESV has been redesigned to be bigger, bolder, and more technologically advanced, with new OLED screens and Cadillac's Super Cruise driver-assist system. The 2021 model starts at $80,490 and features more cargo space than the 2020 model, thanks to a new independent rear suspension.

The 2021 Escalade ESV has 18.1 percent more cargo volume behind the front row over the previous generation. With all seats folded, the ESV's total cargo volume is 126.6 cubic feet, which is 17.5 cubic feet more than the 109.1 cubic feet of the standard 2021 Escalade. The two new Escalades have almost the same amount of interior space in terms of head, leg, shoulder, and hip room; however, the third row of the extended model has 1.7 more inches of legroom.

Two engine options are available in the 2021 Escalade ESV. The 6.2-liter V-8 is standard, and a newly available Duramax turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six is optional at no extra charge. Both engines are paired with the same 10-speed automatic transmission found on the 2020 model, and both rear- and four-wheel drive models are available.
