Microsoft has revealed that it is pulling the plug of Cortana from third-party platforms including Android and iOS. The company has revealed that it is killing off its Cortana app from both the platforms from January 31, 2020.

The company has posted this information on its support page. “As part of this evolution, on January 31st, 2020, we’re ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS in your market. At that point, the Cortana content you created–such as reminders and lists–will no longer function in the Cortana mobile app or Microsoft Launcher, but can still be accessed through Cortana on Windows,” the company said.

Microsoft Defender for Android and IOS

defender_425_735.jpg

Windows is very far from being the most secure OS at the moment but it still tries to give the basic protection against malicious software with the help of it in house antivirus called the Windows defender.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that Microsoft is going to release a version of the defender for the Android and IOS platforms. The antivirus will be tagged along with a “full command line experience”. Microsoft hasn’t revealed all the details and what exactly the app plans on doing but we can expect this information at the RSA Conference.

The Defender for mobile will focus more on the issues related to phishing prevention which Microsoft considers one of the bigger goals. This will prevent employees from revealing there usernames, passwords or any other sensitive information. The execution of these features will be challenging for IOS as it does not allow external apps to scan other apps for security or virus protection.

Windows Update breaks Windows defender

wd_425_735.jpg

The latest Windows 10 update has got Window’s in-built antivirus system Windows defender misfiring. The program now issues warnings that it has missed/skipped files while performing a scan. Defender then tells users no threats were found, a conclusion which obviously reassures no-one.

The error explains that some items were skipped and not scanned due to “exclusion or network scanning settings.” The files that are skipped are not indicated in any form thus increasing the chances of a virus attack. If files are being skipped during the scanning process, the chances of a malicious file being missed are also brought into the picture that might cause problems later on.

Windows 10 KB4549951 update causing random crashes, BSOD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth problems

According to a report from WindowsLatest, the problems with the update are stopping users from keeping their devices updated. We are not aware of the cause behind these issues. Inspecting complaints, some users noted that this update breaks WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, this also resulted in random system crashes and BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Some users also complained about poor system performance. At the same time, it is worth noting that only select users are reporting this problem and not everyone is reporting these issues. The report noted that the KB4549951 update may have caused a compatibility issue between the Bluetooth driver and the operating system.

Android 11 Developer Preview 3 released; check out what is new

Apps in Android 11 DP3 can keep and fetch a record of reasons behind the most recent app deaths using the new getHistoricalProcessExitReasons tool in the Activity Manager class. The ApplicationExitInfo class shows the information that various apps can get before they exit. These include factors like the system running ow on memory, a runtime permission change, excessive resource usage, or a native code crash.

Android 11 allows using Wireless ADB easier than before. Users may now use the ‘Wireless Debugging’ option in developer options. Your phone can then be paired to a PC using the pairing code workflow. However, Google has said that it will add a QR code scanning feature soon.

Microsoft has finally started rolling out the Windows 10 May 2020 update for all Windows 10 computing devices. The major update not only brings bug fixes and new features but also offers a ton of changes under the hood. This means that Microsoft has worked around making the performance better on Windows 10 machines.

With the Windows 10 May 2020 update, the version of Windows 10 will bump up to 2004 from 1909. In order to check for the available update, you can head over to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

To begin with, Microsoft Edge browser, which recently got a beta update based on Chromium, is now being made available to the masses. This means if you have not updated your Edge browser yet, this update will install the new version bring more features to the table. Microsoft claims that the latest version of Edge uses up to 27% lesser RAM than before.

This clearly states that the company is now urging you to ditch the resource-hungry Google Chrome browser for Edge. Notably, the new browser is based on Chromium, which will make the switch much easier for you.

Microsoft new Edge browser rolling out to all Windows users

windows_425_735.png

Microsoft users across the globe are getting new update this week which will upgrade their existing Edge web browser to the new and improved version. Previously, users wanting to try the Chromium-based Edge browser had to download it separately for their system. But now Microsoft feels confident enough to offer it as their standard web browser.

If you're a Windows users then Edge browser is finally being replaced with the new Chromium-based Edge browser. The updates will be available for Windows 10 v1803 and later systems up to Windows 10 v2004. The company says it has over 1 billion devices running on Windows, and they all will be updated to the new browser in the coming weeks.

As for the new Edge browser, it has been updated, revamped to cater to performance needs, but keeping privacy of the users in mind. We've tried out the new Edge browser for few months, and it's fair to say that Microsoft is starting with a clean slate on this one. You can even try out the browser through its Android app now. And we're hoping the company continues to improve the browser and making it the perfect Chrome-rival that everyone has been crying out for

Microsoft teases new-look Start Menu for Windows 10

Microsoft users could soon get a new-look Start Menu bar on Windows 10. The company has teased a new theme recently which shows us glimpses of a transparent Start Menu design. It had shared new theme called Phantom Pink Pride Edition which reveals the changes being made to Windows 10.

It seems the Menu box will get a design refresh, making it in sync with the colour code of the taskbar. We’ve got to say, the new-look design of the Start Menu looks pleasing and there’s a certain fluidity to it. The reveal seems to have done to counter the launch of new MacOS Big Sur by Apple earlier this week. As you might have seen, the new MacOS gets a host of design changes as well as feature additions.
