Dear friends,
We have visited Maithon, Garpanchkot, Baranti and Jaichandi Pahar during last month for a short trip with my extended family of 8 (including me, my wife, daughter, my parents and my sisters family) comprising 2 child of age 5 and 11 respectively.
Started from our home (at Hooghly in the state of West Bengal) at 7.15 am and followed butter smooth Durgapur Expressway via Singur. After crossing Palsit Toll Plazza reached Shaktigarh at 9.10 am for a short tea break. Then start for onward journey and reached Maithon Tourist Lodge at 11.40 am. Mithon dam is one of the biggest dam over river Barakar situated at the border of West Bengal and Jharkhand which is very scenic during mansoon. There is boating facilities (speed boat / normal boat) in the reservoir at both W.B side and J.H side for a price of Rs.400 for 4 adults and Rs.600 for 6 per cycle. There is a nice deer park adjacent to the dam which is also enjoyable from top of the dam. Since we were tired, took our dinner early at about 9.30 pm.

Next day we visit Maa Kalyanyeswari Temple at 7.30 am and follow some rituals there. After returning back to MTL took our breakfast and checked out for Joychandi Pahar, situated near Raghunathpur in the District of Purulia, West Bengal. We follow the Maithon-Dishergarh road through Barakar town which is very congested at places. This route may be avoided due to heavy pedeaterians and indiscipline vehicles. After crossing Dishergarh we follow Asansol-Purulia SH which has excellent termac and very scenic at places. We reached Joychandi Pahar Youth Hostel at 12.30. After having lunch there we climbed up to the hill top to visit JoyChandi Mata temple and Bajrangbali Temple. There are 510 steps which are flatter and any body can climb taking some rest at

Next day we started early at 8.00 am to visit Garpanchakot, Panchet Dam (over river Damodar in the state of Jharkhand). Garpanchkot is a beautiful place to visit Pancharatna Temple, old Kalyaneawari Temple. There are many resorts including WBFDC nature resort. After visiting Panchet Dam, Mobarak Ali's snake park, we took our lunch at Garpanchakot Eco Tourism which has an excellent resturant. After spending some time there we started for Baranti which is also a very beautiful tourist place in Purulia. It is very nice to see sun set at Baranti. There are many hotels and resorts to stay.
