Magna International Inc. and Savings Bank of the Russian Federation announced that their joint offer to acquire a 55% interest in Adam Opel GmbH has been selected by both General Motors Company and the Opel Trust as the preferred solution to address the future of Opel.

Under the offer, the acquired 55% interest in Opel would be owned 50:50 by a Magna/Sberbank consortium (“Consortium”) with GM retaining a 35% interest and Opel employees acquiring 10% as part of a new labour framework. The offer contemplates a total equity investment by the Consortium of Euro 500 million over time. Completion of the purchase remains subject to finalization of definitive agreements and other conditions, including government-backed financing and regulatory approvals.

somehow i love the opel brand. their cars were the epitome in ride quality, comfort, sturdiness & build quality.

the opel brand made me realize that japanese cars are just practical, not something which appeals to the heart, not mine atleast. (Old honda city is an exception!)

Re: "Opel" Brand Sold out!

Me to Still love ASTRA [:)]
This car belonged to one of my most favourite teacher in school. Every time I remember this car, I remember my teacher & vice-versa. Damn, I miss the fact when I used to simply graze at Astra then !! I used to be happy as my bicycle & this Astra were of almost same color !! The only other car that time was Ford Escort but wasn't great looker.

I miss my school :(.

Re: “Opel” Brand – Now Sold Out!

Opel was a great brand. I still see a couple of old Opels from the 1960's still running in Goa. The Astra was also a nice car. Too bad they are so difficult to maintain because of the lack of spares. All the Opel models are sold as Vauxhaull in the UK. It's quite a popular brand there. Some of their cars are sold as Holden's in Australia. In fact the Astra in India had an engine sourced from Holden. They used to advertise the car as a German car until someone challenged this in court.
