6th Nov - Gangtok to Malda
A very early morning start and we would have been back in Kolkata the very day. But after previous evening's grand gathering we did not want to stretch ourselves in the morning. We rather took it easy and got up late and had a lazy breakfast. It was 10 am by the time we checked out of hotel and walked through MG Marg all the way upto the car park. Paid 540/- at the car park for 18 hours of parking. Mighty expensive but was a complete peace of mind.
Started rolling downhill and there was a huge jam of up climbing vehicles which at some places was affecting the down line also. The jam continued through to Ranipul.
Had a quick late lunch in Siliguri and continued on towards Botolbari Dhantala crossing. Its very easy to miss the cut on the left from Dhantalla if you are not a regular or you are not absolutely following the gmap. And we missed it and by the time we switched on the map we were well past it. We had the option of going back but then decided to risk the jam of Dalkhola. At Dalkhola also we missed the left turn from NH31 to NH 34 and went a long way ahead and reversed. The jam was manageable on the level crossing and we were out of it with a delay of about 20 minutes.
It was dark by then and we continued and reached Raigunj where we could have a possible night halt, but being fully charged we decided to move on. But by now we were famished and soon found a nice cosy, deserted dhaba on the way. And to our utmost delight they had some good country chicken which they prepared in front of us. We were the only two customers and took time to relax out. The TV was on and a typical old hindi movie of the 80s was on with the cook keeping an eye on it and one eye on the chicken he was preparing. And since it was the dhaba could not ignore the Egg tarka also. It was so delicious I could not help gobbling up 5 tawa rotis large in size and had it not been for the journey which we needed to continue might have gone in for two more.
The food took a toll and we decided to give a break and a night halt in Malda. We reached the Golden Park and checked with it. Surprisingly they were too pricey as Sagar went to check it out. Moreover the attitude put off Sagar and we went to the Pather Sathi
motel on the opposite. Here too the surprise was we were told its booked for a week though we did not find a single soul other than the lady who gave us the news. We went on to the city and the very dependable tourist lodge gave us very good and lavish accommodation at very reasonable rates. 7th Nov Malda to Kolkata
Nothing much to note it was just the plain and simple drive back to Kolkata but this time through Moregram, Kuli, Phuntishako and Burdwan.
