| | Mumbai To Kollur Mookambika
We a family of three always eagerly wait for our yearly drive to Kollur Mookambika temple, spend few days near the coast, rejuvenate and come back to the daily grind.
Got my beast of a machine (Scorpio) tuned up and serviced a week in advance with the wheel balancing and alignment done.
The main luggage were packed and fitted in the car overnight to avoid delay in the morning. One more family of three were to join us in the morning.
The odometer was set to 0000.
We started from Mumbai at 6.15 am on 8th of May. Always want to cross Pune before the morning rush from there starts. As usual the Mumbai Pune Eway is a delight to drive. We crossed Pune before the rush began and reached Kamats at Khed Shivapur around 930am for breakfast. From Pune to Satara was smooth with occasional work of widening going on the highway.
Near Satara we ran into a massive traffic jam of about 2km, courtesy road work on the highway. Delayed by around 40 minutes.
By around 1.45pm we reached Sai International near Kolhapur for lunch. This is a place we always halt for lunch. Good food and fast service. It has one of the best toilet facilities on the NH4. Finished lunch by 2.30 and left.
Once you cross Kolhapur city, the road onwards is a pleasure to drive. The four lane gives rise to 6 lane, gulmohar lined edges, bougainvilleas on the median. Its a very lovely sight. The road surface is excellent. The traffic becomes rare, the time lost at toll gates becomes less and of course the toll also is less. In no time we crossed Belgaum.
by around 5pm reached the Dharwad exit. Dharwad exit come after the Karnataka High Court Bench building on the left side, cant be missed.
We always take a night halt at the Kamats Yatri Nivas (0836-2461161), in Dharwad. While driving on this stretch one has to be little careful about the speed guns installed every couple of kilometers and monitored by cops. The speed limit is 40km/hr. Its very crippling to drive in this 11km stretch after driving around 100-120km/hr.
Checked in at the hotel. After freshening up came for a cup of coffee. A 2km drive takes you to Unkal lake. Can have an evening outing here.
Dinner in the night at the hotel itself.
Total kilometers travelled 596km.
* pertrol pump is next to hotel. Its advisable to tank up here.
After having a complementary and wholesome breakfast started around 8.15am. Hit the NH63 from Gooty to Ankola at Kalghatgi. The road is 2 laned but smooth and beautiful with the rural India flashing by.
This road passes through Yellapur and the drive is through forest and ghat section. We always take a tea and toilet break at Hotel Shanbhag in Yellapur. Remember there is nothing from here till Ankola.
Reached Ankola around 11.15am. Total distance from Dharwad to Ankola is 152km.
At Ankola we hit the NH 17, right takes you to Karwar an Goa, left takes you towards Mangalore.
At Ankola there is Hotel Kamat upchar good option for lunch. Since we were early drove further till Murudeshwar. Had lunch at the RNS Highway Inn which is bang on the highway. . Good option on the way. Though service is little slow, food is good.
Murudeshwar to Kollur cross at Baindoor is around 32km. From the highway at Baindoor to Kollur is 26km.
Reached by around 3pm. Checked into Mahalakshmi Residency (9845884442), which is a very new hotel, located within the temple premises. Freshened up and visited the temple.
After finishing our rituals here we took a visit to the Hattyangadi Vinayaka temple which is close by.
Dinner was at the restaurant of the hotel itself.
Morning after breakfast visited the Annegudi Vinayaka temple at Kumbashi near Kundapur. By 10 checked in to the UVA Meridian Bay resort on the Halladi road for a good vacation.
