So, how does it feel to be a Nikon guy? What are your first impressions of Nikon and the D500. What memory card are you using with it? A brief review will help me.
I have no plans to change the lens unless it stops working, though 200-500 is on my mind.
Next time I come to Chennai, come and get it.
I was fed up with Tamron focus issues and low light capability. Not sure if the piece I got was defective. But not getting consistent results and keeper rate kept going very low. So was already contemplating keeping Canon 70D for walk around lens 18-135 and getting Canon 7D MK II with either 100-400mm or yet to release Canon 200-600 for birding after few months.
Then heard about D500. Forget Canon 70D. Its way better than Canon 7D MK II. All the reviews said it is the best crop Wildlife camera body surpassing Canon 7D MK II. So I tried Prem's (one we met at Sirudavur) kit and immediately decided to get it. Got the combo in 4 days. Have been only twice out for shooting with the kit. Almost everything that I took seems to be sharp when seen in camera. Yet to process as I have an old OS not compatible with version of PS that supports D500 raw files. Need to upgrade OS.
Some observations compared to Canon 70D and Tamron 150-600 combo -
Auto focus - Able to get the focus even in a clutter back ground, even at low-light.
Focus lock - The moment it locks the focus - it never leaves it, no matter what comes in front or back of the subject.
ISO - Up to 3200 looks good. Even at 4000 - looks ok and usable. I settled at 400 or 560.
Buffer - This is fun especially for in flight shots. you can keep clicking clicking. But its noisy compared to Canon 70D.
Customization - buttons are at the right place and can change from group to single point focus or change metering, ISO quickly without taking eye from view finder.
And of course NIKONs DR - liked it a lot.
As of now I am happy. But have to go out more and also see how it looks after processing. Its raining in Chennai - so weekend plans are at a toss.
You will love the D500 and 200-500 combo and it can do wonders when this combo combines with your outstanding skill. Try the combo once.
