Men: Arjun, Arun, Ramesh, Sathak, Vivek
Mission: Bangalore to Chikmagalur
Machine: Tata Zest
Journey: (NH48) BLR->Nelamangala -> Channarayapatna->Hassan->Belur->Chikmagalur
Fuel: Rs 2400(Diesel)
Started at 1 AM from home BTM and headed straight on the (NH48) a breezy drive all the way to Nelamangala. From Nelamangala we had to take a left towards Hassan.
The road leads us to Belur and straight is Chikmagalur. We reached Chikmagalur by 5.30 AM.
We did a very slow drive with 2 tea breaks in between. You will have to shell 230 Rs(24 hrs) for Toll in this road.
Here are the main places which we visited:
Mullainagiri: This is the highest peak in Karnataka. It is around 25 kms from Chikmagalur. The road is pretty good but narrow. So, you need to be extra careful. There are couple of hairpin bends which warrants caution. To reach the highest point, you need to park your vehicle at a point and climb around 400 steps. The view from the top is indescribable.
Coffee Estate: We went through the estate which had coffee plants along with silver oaks and unusually tall tree . The coffee beans were not ripe in the month of
March. We were informed that cultivation is done during December. Overall a great walk into the estate.
Ayyanakere Lake: This is a great place which should be visited around 5 pm as it offers a great sun set view. This is a relatively unexplored area and the road is
narrow. It is around 24 km from Chikmagalur. You need to go till Shakarayapatna and take left and drive another 4 kms from there. When we went there, there was less
water in the lake but still the view was awesome.
Kallathigiri Falls: This is nice water fall located at the heart of Chikmagalur. The falls is very short and is not worth spending more than half an hour.
Hebbe Falls: The best water falls in Chikmagalur. Very high waterfalls with crystal clear water and nice environment. You cannot take your car to this falls. You
have to take the private Jeep to the falls from the main road. They charged 700rs for a jeep. 7 people can travel in the Jeep. Real offroading roads toward the
falls. Worth a Visit! They allow us 1 hour at the falls and the Same jeep takes us back to the main road where our Car is parked.
This falls is the most rated spot in this trip as per me.
Here are some photos:
After visiting these places drove the the Car through the plain hills. A good Offroading experience in Zest. For all who visit this place, make sure you take a Car with good Ground Clearance. Lots of Offroading need to be done here. Zest was very responsive in all the roads and I enjoyed the ride and stability. Best time to visit this place is during rainy season!!
Thank You All!!
Arjun MP Singing off.
Will be back with new trip and new travelogue soon!!
