Hogenakkal Falls is often known as the 'Niagara of India'. Located in the Dharmapuri District of Tamil Nadu, it lies at a distance of about 180 Km from Bangalore.
Importance of the site can be assessed by the fact that the destination derived its name from the water cascades that fall from a great height, creating an aura of smoke.
Mission:
BANGALORE-HOGENAKKAL FALLS-BANGALORE
Members in Zest: Rakesh, Sylesh and me(Arjun).
Fuel: Indian Oil – Filled(Diesel) for 1000(More than enough for the beast to cover this to and fro distance).
Tyre pressure: 34 psi (front & back).
Total kms traveled: (To & Fro) : 380.
AC: 75%.
Driven by: All.
Mileage: 20kmpl.
We decided to take the road through the forest for some sight seeing and thrill!!
On Jan 14, got up at 4 am. Had bath and finished other chores. Ready to leave at 5 am.
Went straight into Indian Oil Pump at BTM, checked pressure and filled the tank for 1000.
We headed strait to Hosur, Attibelle.
The sun was rising at that time, a perfect start for a traveler!!
Once you reach attibelle we took the right(The road through the forest to Hogenakkal).
This road is a pleasant to drive with beautiful scenery.
The idea to take this road was to experience the sight seeing and thrill
. Though the distance is little far, it was worth this. Crossed Attibelle and then stopped for b/fast at around 7 am . Stopped for around ½ hour and again proceeded on the road.
Within no time we were in the hills and the forest range.
Then started the collection part. First at entrance I shelled out Rs.10 as entry fee into Hogenakkal area, then after entering Hogenakkal, parking fee Rs.20. This parking fee is for parking on roads. Then again a parking fee of Rs.20 in TNTDC compound.
Finally we reached the falls. The boating is not allowed to deeper parts and where the falls are heavy. Bathing is allowed in only one falls surrounded by fence. The new rule is due to the tragedy that happened 8 months before. We had fish and rice curry from there. It was nice. Overall it is a good place to visit but not worth for a complete day or family.
Pictures speaks the rest!
Thank You All!!
