Wonderful !!!

So much of information you have given and it will be very useful for the travellers who take this route. I had done this stretch from Delhi to Bangalore in 2013 and the road between Gwalior to Nagpur was a nightmare.

Thanks for sharing

Well, this route of Gwalior to Nagpur is much better, except Gwalior to Jhansi, where work is going on one side of road and the bad patch being 30kms after Seoni to Nagpur, Rest all was a very smooth drive.

Sorry Guys, unfortunately I have no pictures to share!. But can a share a few safety tips that can help felllow travellers:-

1. Fill fuel early in the morning, saves you from searching for fuel pumps on the way as well as density of fuel is high in the morning.

2. Get tyre pressure every day on long travels as each day i noticed tyre pressure had fallen to 29-31psi of the required 33psi on each day of travel.

3. Carry basic tool kit, spare, umbrella, a spare fuel can of 5 ltrs, water, etc.

4. Note down the emergency and helpline numbers at each part of highways, which are displayed as you enter a particular police station limits.

5. Maintain speed limit preferably 10kmph lower than the specified limit allowed in a particular stretch. Better late than never.

6. Avoid stopping at isolated places and avoid driving after dark.

7. Check or replace headlight, tailgate, indicator and dipper bulbs for proper working condition. Also check wipers and carry a extra sachet liquid to be mixed in water for cleaning windshield. Take care to have working fog lamps as it was difficult to even see past 10 feet at 9:00am in winters, specially very important if planning a night drive.

8. When a vehicle is overtaking, slow down and allow it to pass through, and also be careful while overtaking as I have noticed some idiots increasing speed along side while I was overtaking them. Never ever overtake while approaching a bend or when you cannot see the road ahead.

9. Never get into a race with other drivers and avoid and quarrels or fights with anyone on highway. Maintain your own speed and pace.

10. Do not drive too close behind other vehicles as it can be dangerous specially at bends or when approaching speed breakers or pot holes.

11. Look out for pebbles and stones while driving, and keep both your hands firm on the steering wheel as sometimes your tyre may burst at higher speeds and may be difficult for you to control your vehicle with only one hand.

12. Do not carry unnecessary valuables while on long trips, and carry only necessary cash for the day, rest you can withdraw every day from the ATM. Most of the fuel stations on the highway accept only cash.

13. Always take guidance from Police wherever possible for routes as from others may be misleading at times.

14. Get advance information and phone numbers of workshops along the route in case of breakdown or accidents. Prepare a route map in advance of your trip, google maps may not work due to network issues at some places and also there may be no sign boards at some places when needed.

15. Do not strain yourself by driving continuously or for prolonged hours, take a small break every 2-3 hours.

16. Beware of trucks as they are the ultimate kings of the highway, and avoid overtaking into gaps between two trucks. Also note that most of the trucks these days travel on right side of the lane even though they are moving slow and do not give you a pass to overtake, so you will be forced to overtake from the left. The Govt or Police need to address this issue very seriously.

17. Be very careful of animals, pedestrians and two wheeler's who will suddenly pop out onto the road specially from the dividers.

18. Reflector stickers will be helpful on your vehicle.

19. Do not honk excessively and use dippers at night. Avoid an attitude as if you exclusively own the roads.

20. Expect the unexpected at all times while driving. Maintain a speed that you can control your vehicle in case of emergencies taking into account your braking capacity, specially small cars which can go above 90-110kmph but brake and stop smoothly in a short time. Inspite of you owning a good, or a new or a very superior vehicle understand that Indian road conditions may not be of the same superior quality, so maintain discipline and patience, as the important thing here is to reach your destination in one piece.

Drive safe........ [:)]
