I now like to finish this travelogue of mine in one concluding post. I stayed at Puri for two nights. The first night up on arrival I did not leave my hotel, though my wife and daughter went to the beachfront and had some local shopping. The beach road was made one way by the local administration, to cope up with the heavy traffic and very heavy pedestrians. Even my wife and my daughter were soon disgusted with the heavy rush of people. It seemed that the whole of Bengal had only one place to go and it was Puri.
The next morning I first went to the temple of Lord Jagannath. It was also awfully filled up with devotees. Then we went to Satpada, on Chilka lake. Though the road was beautiful, it was ridden with innumerable speed breakers.
The Chilka development authority's office cum museum building at Satpada. It has a very good exhibit on the marine ecosystem. A ticket costs only ten rupees.
The jetty at Satpada.
At the evening I went to Konark. We were already late when we left our hotel. Moreover the road (Chakratirtha Road) was dug up for some work and I had to waste some time for a detour. As a result I could only reach Konark after the main gate had closed at eight. Though I did not visit the temple, I took some photo from outside. This is the main road to the temple from the parking area.
This is the main parking lot, almost empty. The two buildings on the left are hotels. Nice to see that hotels are coming up at Konark. They charge much less than their counterparts in Puri and on my next visit I plan to stay there.
On the day of my return I left my hotel shortly after eight. The road was crowded till Cuttack.
But after Cuttack the traffic was less.
The bridge on river Mahanadi while returning.
Our stop at this hotel at Bhadrak for lunch. This is a nice hotel on the main highway. Rooms are also available.
Reached Kharagpur before sunset.
This eatery named "Tempstore Dhaba" is my favorite. Located right on the NH-6 about ten KMs west of Kolaghat, they serve good food. Good ambiance with adequate parking facilities. It is a pity that they close down at 11 PM. Stopped there to buy our dinner for that day. Reached home shortly after ten (at night).
