Nice experience you had there pravin, spotting a cheetah in early morning is really a lucky thing, but i feel sad for your car getting hurt. BTW
which car do you drive?
December is too cold to visit Ooty, and people who are used to live in warm weathers won't really like this. So to visit Ooty April-July is a good time since the weather will be normally cold and there will be no rains.

If you are coming from Pune, first drive to Bangalore and stay, the next day you start towards mysore-Gundlupet and Bandipur, think you might need at-least four days to do this.
Zen is alright for the trip if only to the forests, to visit viewpoints and dams, cars with good amount of ground clearance is required because the roads are inexistent.

My wife and I are nature/wildlife lovers. We do not have any plan to visit Ooty now. But Masinagudi is on our list and we were targeting TTDC Masinagudi. We could not get any contact details.
Now with the information that you have provided, you will surely find us doing another lazy drive through those forests in a couple of weeks time
You should really try this place HR, there are lots of fauna in this particular region, I think for the next two weeks the places will be crowded for holidays. Better if you visit by mid jan.
