Bangalore - Goa - Shirdi - Mumbai via Western Ghats & Back : Driving 3000 Kms

Ahh... Amazing [clap], that I have done this life time drive which was much awaited & was pending since long!!

The Western Ghats have always been in my travel diary ever since I landed Bangalore in the year 2004, and this time it happened in a very planned way. I had been planning this trip from January this year. Initially I thought of doing it in the month of May but it was too hot during that time & eventually I had to drop the plan for time being. My next plan to move was during monsoon, July or August as during this time the western ghats of Karnataka is very scenic & a must do journey. But again I had to pre-pone my trip to June 3rd week as it was vacation time for my wifey.

Twist in the story: News of Cloud burst from Uttarakhand reached us just before a week of our trip. The deadly news horrified my dad & mom & at one point of time we were planning to cancel the journey. It was raining every where around the western ghats till Mumbai & I was continuously keeping a tab on the weather report. Just before 3 days of our journey I did canceled the hotel booking of Goa fearing rain. But finally, I took the chance & went ahead to do the trip…..

Okay, enough of story… Lets start & let me take you to my photo log….:)

The Route: Bangalore - Horanadu - Sringeri - Udupi – Murudeshwar – Goa – Shani Shignapur – Shirdi – Trimbakeshwar – Mumbai & back to Bangalore

DAY2
Today is my daughter's Vidya Arambh ceremony in Sringeri at Sharadamba temple.
Sringeri Sharada Peetham is the southern Advaita Vedanta matha or monastery established by Adi Shankara in 8th century AD. The matha is on the banks of the Tunga River in Chikmagalur district, Karnataka, around 330 kMs from the state capital Bangalore. The Sringeri Matha's main deity is the Goddess of Learning Sri Sharada Parameshwari. The present image in the temple is in gold and is believed to be in place from the times of Jagadguru Vidyaranya Swaminaha; before which a murti made of sandal wood was in worship.

sumitsd, wonderful pictures. When we traveled on that route from Goa to Wayanad last time, the Siva statue at Murudeshwar was under repair/renovation and stretches were erected around it.

Day3
Its time to worship Lord Shiva which I had waited for years.....

Murdeshwar
"Murudeshwara" is another name of the Hindu god Shiva. Famous for the world's second-tallest Shiva statue, Murudeshwara beach town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is also famous for the Murudeshwara Temple

Statue of Lord Shiva:
A huge towering statue of Lord Shiva, visible from great distances, is present in the temple complex. It is the third highest statue of Lord Shiva in the world. The Tallest Lord shiva statue is in Nepal known as the(Kailashnath Mahadev Statue). The statue is 123 feet (37 m) in height and took about two years to build.

After the wonderful darshan & worship we headed towards our nxt destination Karwar for lunch & reached their by 2:00PM. Hotel Amrut was our destination is the place, the locals will recommend if you are in mood for seafood When in small coastal town of Karwar. Karwar though famous all over for its characteristic coastal cuisine, lacks good restaurants that specialize in seafood .......... Hotel Amrut thrives on this deficiency and " No Competition " Environment.

After the somptouous lunch we headed towards GOA. This was not in my itinerary in the begining but my dad insisted & I kept the promise. Reached GOA - Candolim (Santana BeachResort) by 6:00PM. Well this was 3rd tripto GOA but 1st time during monsoon. I know GOA for its Christmas eve & New year parties...but it has its own charm in rains.

Wonderful pics [clap]

How was the road condition from Udupi to Panaji?

What was the entry fee for cars to Goa?
Thanks AR Ram...

Well the road condition from Udupi till Kundapura was bad but driveable. And then from there till Murudeshwar was quiet good with few bad patches. But the Karwar - Panaji road was fantastic..

I had to pay INR 250/- as an entry fee for GOA...:(
