Next day started from Mysore @ 9 AM after having our breakfast towards Ooty. As usual Mysore-Ooty road is busy for forst 10-15 Kms, so drove very sedately. After that the road was very good upto Bandipur. After the rain the whole Bandipur Tiger reserve route was so green that I just wanted to stay there. While going towards Ooty we did not see much animals except few deer and rabbits. Still my in laws were so happy so see animals roaming freely in those green environment. Soon I just put pressure on accelerator to cover much plain road as quickly as possible realizing that I was moving very slow upto Bandipur. All were waiting for the 36 Hair Pin bend and how our Punto will perform and how I will drive her. After around 1:30 hrs, the ghat road started. Sign boards were broad and written Hairpin 36/36, 35/36, 34/36 as we were moving up. Believe me it was the most amazing driving experience as I was covering those hair pin bends. And the way Punto has performed, I was really thrilled. My trip partners were simply enjoying the curves and the fear was disappeared from their faces. I was concentrating on the road and finally able to see the sign board stating “Hurray.. you are in 1/36 Hair pin bend”. Then I realized I have done it with ease for which I have heard a lot from many travellers. The particular ooty cool breeze started to flow and we just put the warm clothes on. We had booked the Sanjay's Cottage to stay for 2 nights and 3 days which was in coonoor road and near to rose garden. It was a bit difficult to find the route as I was driving on my own for the first time in ooty roads. We reached around 1:30 PM which means it should take 4:30 hrs to reach Ooty from Mysore. The GPS also started hanging frequently. Asked few guys and reached finally our destination. One thing in ooty was, almost every road is like a ghat road and parking inside the city is a big challenge. So if you have to ask somebody about the route, you have to go a few more meters to find your parking place and ask somebody. Coming back to the cottage, it was a nice cottage with basic amenities but the view from the Cottage was good. The temperature showing in my punto was 9 degrees. It was freezing like anything and I could not even stand on the floor without my casual chapals. We ordered some hot food and rested for couple of hours. As i mentioned earlier, the rose garden was just 0.5 Kms from the cottage, we decided to finish that spot first. The Rose Garden
When we started towards rose garden, it started raining. As we asked the owner of the cottage, he suggested that we should carry on as these days the rain is common in Ooty. Fortunately we has 3 umbrellas, hence we proceed towards the garden. Tickets were done for 5 persons and camera. Once we entered inside, the flowers were looking refreshing with water drops on it. It was really good but most flowers were broken due to rain. Then I thought may be monsoon season is not the best time for Ooty. Anyway, we went there and there is no point in thinking. Took some snaps in rain and covered the entire rose garden which is spread around 1 Kms. Nice roses though to look for though.
After that decided to go to the Boat House. We were told that @ 5 PM all the visiting spots close. We still have 1 hour left. The Boat House
It's a straight forward road from rose garden. As soon as you come out of the rose garden, a circular road you will meet. Continue on the same road and you will see sign boards for boat house. We followed the direction from GPS too. Reached boat house in 15-20 mins. Though it was raining, still lot of visitors were present there. I parked the car and went straight to the boating ticket counter. Speed boats,Motors boats were available. We were more interested in motor boats as they were covered ones. But they provide the boats minimum for 8 people and maximum of 16 people. The boats very accordingly. There were one more couple were there waiting for tickets as well. Hence we tied up and booked a 8 seater motor boat. In rain, as the boat started entering inside the lake, it was so cold that our faces turned into red. Somehow managed those 20 mins with some snaps. But the ride was good.
Finally decided to return to our cottage. Came back again in the same route and this time I was driving more confidently as knew the directions. We stayed the evening in cottage itself and had a very nice dinner. The cottage was having it's own kitchen, so hot water was not at all an issue. The second day finished hence.
Now the PICs time.
