FULLY FAIRED KTM SMALL CAPACITY MOTORCYCLE COULD FEATURE A 250CC ENGINE AND STYLING INSPIRED BY THE RC8; INDIA LAUNCH IN EARLY 2014

KTM will launch the Duke 390 streetbike in the next few months in India. The next big thing from KTM though could make a dramatic move away from its streetfighter range of motorcycles. KTM is said to be working on a fully faired motorcycle to follow the Duke 390. Today, new details around this motorcycle have emerged, in line with the various rumors we’ve been hearing from industry sources about KTM’s next product in the small capacity motorcycle space. KTM’s next small capacity motorcycle, like the Duke 125/200 and 390, will be a global model that’ll be sold across many countries.

KTM could launch a 250cc fully faired motorcycle in early 2014, with this motorcycle’s design inspired by the RC8 superbike. Like the Duke 200 and the Duke 390 models, the fully faired 250cc KTM motorcycle could make its debut in India. Bajaj Auto, an expert in high quality-low cost manufacturing is expected to built this 250cc fully faired motorcycle at Chakan. So, the 250cc fully faired motorcycle will be built in India and eventually be sold in markets across the world, as has been the case with the small capacity KTM Duke range.

The latest buzz around the fully faired motorcycle does poke hole in the theory suggesting that the Duke 390 will eventually spawn a fully faired motorcycle. Instead, it could be the 250cc engined fully faired model that could be the next big thing for the Austrian motorcycle brand. The 250cc fully faired KTM is expected to have a power output of over 30 Bhp and a torque output of about 25 Nm, both figures likely to match or exceed the most powerful 250cc motorcycle around: the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Given its lower engine capacity of 250cc, the fully faired model is expected to sit between the Duke 200 and the Duke 390.

This positioning also means that the KTM 250 will be priced between the street fighter Dukes, at well under INR 2 lakhs in the Indian motorcycle market. The competitive pricing will be the biggest strength of the fully faired KTM 250, which will take on the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja, the Hyosung GT250R and the Honda CBR250R motorcycles. Given the fully faired KTM 250′s design being inspired by the top-of-the-line RC8 superbike, it would only be fitting if KTM chooses to name its latest small capacity motorcycle as the RC25.
