Bajaj is all set to launch the V12 by December which resembles mostly V15's design.

(Bajaj V12 will have similar design as the V15)

Bajaj Auto will be launching a new 125cc bike based on its popular V15 commuter bikes next month. The new Bajaj V12 will be launched at a price of Rs 56,200 (ex-showroom Delhi). This was confirmed by Eric Vas, President (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto at a special screening of 'Invincible Indians,' a series of five stories about ordinary Indians who have made the nation proud. Like the V15, the new Bajaj V12 will be a commuter motorcycle and will use some metal from the decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in its construction. The metal from the INS Vikrant though will only be symbolic and will be a small part of the V12's body. Production of the V12 has already started and the new 125cc Bajaj bike will be launched by December 2016, Eric Vas said.

Launched in March 2016, the Bajaj V15 has sold over 1.6 lakh bikes and the company expects to clock sales of over 2 lakh bikes by the end of the calendar year. With that kind of success, it's only natural that Bajaj will be looking to tap the commuter motorcycle segments with more variants under the V brand. The first logical step towards that is the new Bajaj V12, a 125cc commuter motorcycle which is expected to tap the large volumes segment for Bajaj Auto.

I have a strong feeling that either of the two will fail. V15 is priced at Rs. 62k ex Delhi which is fairly competitive for a 150cc of such design. Either V12 will take away V15's sales due to similar design or customers would pay 6k more and get a more powerful version. Not a good thing for Bajaj. Downgrading doesn't make sense.

Instead they should have launched a V18 or V20 with a 180/220cc heart from Pulsar and priced it at around Rs. 70-80k. Even though sales would not be that good but performance hungry would be very much delighted. As such Pulsar brand, even the AS150 and such, isn't bringing numbers except the Pulsar 150. So it would have been a safe bet.

If they launch V18 or V20 then the sales of avenger range will be less and presently people prefer V15's than the avenger when it is for city ride alone. And when they price it around 70-80K then the Pulsar range also gets affected as the people may think that the V's are the future bikes and still people are there to buy from the pulsar range but it will also affect the Pulsar range as well as the avenger range also.

So Bajaj is in the correct track.

I accept your view. At this moment, I think V series is more important than the already established Pulsar series, so it is a priority to sustain the sales of exising models like V15 instead of worrying about the established Pulsar and Avenger series. I believe Avenger and V15 have a different set of buyers, while V15 customers are in for a commuter (comfort and economy in mind) bike, Avenger buyers look for leisure rides (look and different design in mind) mostly. Pulsar is a more premium offering and not an alternative to V15. Design, features, riding position are a lot different. It is just that V15 has a different design that it passes off as an expensive/premium bike, which it is not.

To be true, problem is that Bajaj has launched so many products that they cover almost all the segments of 50k-1 Lac motorcycle range. So, whatever product they launch in this price bracket, it is bound to cannibalize the sales of an existing Bajaj model to some extent. There is no need to add more models, they should focus on updating existing ones to meet new standards.

Yes, what you said is true it is mainly for its commuters so there's no point in introducing V18 or V20 for the commuter segment right? even though introduced only some might prefer but when it is solidly build with many features (V18 and V20) then avenger buyers might look into this instead of avenger range.

Not only Bajaj does this but every manufacturer except Yamaha ( My perception) focuses on one typical product. But Hero and Bajaj understands the Indian Market well than any of its competitors now Royal Enfield too so i think it takes time for them to focus on updating the existing ones like the Pulsar RS 200, Pulsar AS 150 and the Pulsar AS 200 it took time to launch it in Indian Market as they would have feared that it would be failure so they have to make more market survey and time to launch it would be post poned. For example: Hero for splendor range, Bajaj for Discover range, etc.
