Hello All,

I own a 1986 model CI Bullet and I had got it as a birthday present for my 14th birthday,(completely restored, second hand) I am 28 now and have enjoyed riding it since the last so many years. I must have completed close to 3 lakh Kms on it, but here's the thing, I never had it easy with the bike. The thing with bullets is you can fix a problem but a new issue will crop u soon after, and not to mention sudden failure of this or that and I had to push it tens of kms to service station or Home[frustration] Fed up I bought a Suzuki Gixxer 150cc bike last year and pushed the bullet into the corner of my garage and have never touched it ever since. But now slowly I am starting to miss my good old days on a Bullet, Now as things are I want to sell the bullet and buy the classic 500 or the Bullet standard 500, I know they are not the same bullet I used to ride but Now I coudn't care less for the thumping sound, I had my share of fun thumping super loud on the bullet in my school and college days. Now I want reliability on engine which the UCE offers. Now I want you guys to share your opinions on whether to go for a new bullet or the repair the old one?

Re: Sell my 1986 CI BULLET and buy bullet UCE 500?

Simple ... just buy a new Bullet.

A Bullet come with its own share of Glamor Quotient. Meaning, like the hubby (of a Glam wife) who ends up ordering take aways / buying new clothes more frequently, you too will end up pushing the new Bullet. But, I feel THAT frequency will be much less. Current gen Bullets are much more reliable.

If you ask ME, if I would buy one, answer would be NO. I might be tempted to go for a Jawa, if and when Mahindra brings it. Life is NOT worth living without certain pleasant problems. Hey na ? Or could it be Bajaj Avenger ?? I'll worry, when I decide to get rid of my now unused (27,000+ km in 10 years) Star City.

BTW, I was SMILING while reading your post. I read it thrice and ENJOYED it. I once started a thread "To Bu(llet) or not to Bu(llet) or something like that. Your feelings are typical of a Bullet owner.

I suggest you to retain it. If you get the bike checked and serviced it properly, it will not give much problem. For old bullets, you need to get it serviced by old bullet specialists. You may give it to Mr. Nandan, Bullet Specialist to make your bike trouble free. I am based at Chennai and there are good mechanics available here.

similar problems will crop up in your new bullet as well after 1-2 years. no point in buying a new bullet. if you wish to sell your old one buy another reliable machine.

In my opinion if you are financially ok and want reliability and speed go for new bullet. But at same time i would request you to restore the old legendary machine you are having. Keep both of them. Just go for short drive once in week with that 86 model.
