TVS Motors which recently launched the Apache RTR 2004V and the new generation Victor, followed it up with the highly anticipated Akula 310 at the Auto Expo 2016. This motorcycle rides on the back of the association TVS has formed with BMW Motorrad to manufacture the motorcycle in India as well as for export markets.

The TVS Akula 310 is Russian for shark” and also a submarine class. Styling is incredibly racy, front to the rear the motorcycle speaks volumes about TVS manufacturing prowess and now even design. The concept introduced under TVS racing banner has a lot of tech bristling, foremost being the carbon fibre body work and the aluminum trellis sub frame. While the carbon fibre isnt any indicator, the aluminium sub frame clearly indicates what the production motorcycle could have.

Several lightweight components have gone into the motorcycle and details will follow shortly on all that this motorcycle has to offer. USD forks, radial calipers, force fed airbox and a quick shift 6-speed transmission will be some of the highlights.

The TVS Akula 310 also has a heat management system etched into the bodywork using some clever design. This is essentially what the gill like appendages on the motorcycle do, in addition to also working to enhance stability and reducing drag for enhanced aerodynamics.

Full function digital speedo, on board gyro cameras and a steering damper are additional bits that will add credence to its dynamic abilities. However it remains to be seen if all the features showcased on the concept make it to production.

The backbone of course is the BMW G310 R but expect the production version of this motorcycle to hit markets and not just race circuits by the end of the year.

Finalized production model of TVS AKULA 310

Reminds me of Ninja 300
Really especially with that white black color. TVS is making a fun of itself with so much of delay. And again they are going the pulsar way. Instead of differentiating this bike and naming it Akula they are gonna name it Apache. Identity crisis like the pulsar brand is going to prevail.

Great work by TVS to get the drag coefficient so low, that it managed to get a much better top speed as compared to the 310R which has the same engine and output, even though at a different rpm.

They have tested this bike extensively in the wind tunnel, to get this drag coefficient and this is one of the best figures in the segment, even if compared to bikes sold outside India.

In my opinion, they should not have used the name of Apache, as this is a totally different platform, and a new name would have helped. Even though, the Apache has made a great name for itself, there are many who had a bad experience with the earlier variants, and would avoid this bike due to the name. The pricing is quite good, and even though its quite close to the RC390, I think it will still manage to gain attention with its looks and competitive features.

Beautifully designed Bike by TVS, thanks for the update @Akash. The price looks a bit on the higher side.

My question, how the bloodyhell the pillion will get on to that perch? From far I'll seem he is perched on the shoulder of the rider.

Cheers

Just one more model of Vikram aur Betaal bike to be wary of in our daily commute. vikram-bethal.png
Since both torque and power comes close to 6th gear ,the riders will probably be zipping in and out at top speed and be a nuisance. Yesterday one of these (not TVS) Vikarm aur Betaal bike smashed into an innocent person and took his life near Koyambedu , chennai.

Great work by TVS to get the drag coefficient so low, that it managed to get a much better top speed as compared to the 310R which has the same engine and output, even though at a different rpm.
....
Although lower drag coefficient does help in reducing the power requirement to overcome drag, the higher top speed was achieved by higher rev in drive train and tweaking the ECU. The gear ratio for 310R works out to 7.56. By increasing the rev. the gear ratio has been brought down to 6.99
Max speed (in m/s) = (rotation per minute/(gear ratio * 60))* circumference of tyre – (rear tyre measurement was taken in meters)
40.233=(9500/(gr*60))*1.922
Gr= 7.56
44.45== (9700/(gr*60))*1.922
Gr =6.99
