Hey Folks![:)]
I love all of the Yamaha Bikes esp. FZ and SZ (both carbureted)
I got to know that FZ and SZ both have the same engine but the power is low in SZ compared to FZ (detuned engine). By doing what they detuned the FZ engine?

OK, so if I buy a SZ, what are all the modifications I need to do to convert the detuned SZ engine to a pure FZ engine?

Re: What is the difference between the Yamaha Brothers?

disk brakes are not present( Im Not Very Sure Though) for SZ as well as torque is less as compared to FZ. SZ produces 12.1 PS@ 7500 Rpm whereas FZ produces 14 PS @ 7500 Rpm. One is a Tourer(SZ) other one is a Racier version (FZ). better rubber on FZ than SZ so grip would be more on FZ. Apart from this fz has less ground clearance compared to SZ. also the seating length for SZ is Higher by 12mm@ 802mm whereas in FZ it is 790mm. apart from this i dont think there is much difference. yes the gear ratios also differ a bit

Question is more towards the engine tuning (fact behind same cc with different power & torque figures)

Re: What is the difference between the Yamaha Brothers?

SZ-R has disc at front.
From the knowledge what I gained from another forum is
- FZ and SZ shares the same engine.
- SZ is tuned for FE.
- SZ has 40/12 and FZ has 40/10 sprockets sets.
- 40/12 will accelerate quickly than the 40/10.
- SZ has the best roll in gear acceleration in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears.
- SZ does 30-70 kmph in 5th gear 4 whole secs faster than the FZ.
- SZ and FZ both have the same cylinder kits and crankcase sets.
- FZ has monoshock whereas SZ features Twin shocks (at rear).
- FZ has digital speedo and SZ has an analog speedo (tacho only available in SZ R version).

@Mr.Boss
That, the engine tuning, what Yamaha has tuned different? The gearing and/or smaller carb and/or something else etc etc ???

Really? [roll]
- SZ has the best roll in gear acceleration in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears.
Can you explain "roll in gear acceleration"

I'm not very confident with the justification in my mind, let me confirm once again and then put it here (I'm not comfortable posting something without proper backup/knowledge)

@Mr.Boss,
I said that these are only things that I saw on another forum.

ZigWheels reported about that roll in gear acceleration.
I think it is, first go to 30 kmph speed, shift all the way to 5th gear and then WOT.

I think adding one or more tooth at rear sprocket will improve pickup.

Your answer was 'simple', but the question is something different (apart from what the title says)

Fz engine has performance tuned!
This guy have to spend thousands to get that performance
OK you asked me let me say
Mode 1:
1. Engine head work Aka alternation
2.high lifting dohc head hodt +2mm
3.fz pistions with 3 layer ltct coated rings
4.carburetor upjetting .
5. Better oil flow to head
6. Final gear ratio increase (taller)
7. New throttle body
8. Remove dual cable accerator link.
9. Port the value head +.22mm dia
10.better valve springs
11.bigger bore body with extra fins to cool
12.fz exhaust or local made but have to calibrate back pressure with expantion chamber

Many more...

Mode2:
Take to race concepts Bangalore
Install fz kit
Cost 10 to 15k
But performance is 30% more than fz

Mode3:
Forget fz . keep sz with its own organs

Happy mr.boss?

Simple man,FZ is a better-performance-tuned Bike from Yamaha.Whereas SZ is for Commuting purpose and also with some more Mileage and a bit of performance loss compared to the FZ.
