Honda CBR650F Officially Debuts in India

The Indian subsidiary of this Japanese automobile giant has also confirmed rolling out its mid-segment sports bike, the CBR650F in Q4, FY2015-16. Expected to be one of the flagship bikes for HMSI, the liquid-cooled, inline four-cylinder, 649cc CBR650F will be imported in the form of CKD kits and assembled locally. The company has, however, not finalised a plant for the said assembly operations. The model was displayed at the Auto Expo earlier this year.

Honda to launch locally made CBR650F in July 2015

Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) plans to introduce CBR650F by July this year to mark its entry into the premium motorcycle segment, according to a top company official.

"We are planning to introduce CBR650F sometime in July. It will be completely assembled in our plant. It is part of the Make in India concept promoted by the government...," HMSI, President and CEO, Keita Muramatsu told.

The price of the motorcycle, he said would be around Rs 8lac.

Honda plans that the CBR650F would be assembled at their Manesar plant and shall have 95% imported equipment.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is all set to commence local assembly of the CBR650F superbike in India. To kick off production at the Manesar plant in Haryana after 2 months, the CBR650F will have an initial run of two bikes per day with the number to grow based on demand. This big bike is likely to be rolled out in August as the two-wheeler manufacturer gears up for new product launches in June, July and August.

If the price comes round 8 lac, as speculated. Then Honda is just gonna park their motorcycle in dealerships and have a look at Ninjas' flying on the roads.

Bookings for Honda CBR650F Now Open; Launching on August 4, 2015

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Private Limited (HMSI) has started taking the bookings for its high-end sports motorcycle CBR650F in the country. Interested people can now book the bike for a token amount of Rs. 50,000.

The Honda CBR650F is powered by a 649cc 4-cylinder double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The fully-faired bike's performance is rated at 86bhp, while peak torque stands at 62Nm.

Honda had announced in October last year that it will start making the CBR -650 in India, which will allow the company to price the bike competitively. However, Honda is yet to finalise the facility where it will manufacture the bike. Also, we are told the localisation level for the Honda CBR650F will stand at about 14 per cent.

The bikemaker has a total of four plants in the country - in Vithalapur, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Karnataka. Y S Guleria, Vice President, HMSI, had earlier said, "The purpose (to start manufacturing the bike in India) is to build in India and also the affordability aspect will be considered for customers with Make in India commitment.

Upon its launch, the Honda CBR650F will compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Benelli TNT600 GT. We expect the bike to be priced between Rs. 6 lakh - Rs. 8 lakh.

Honda has started providing passes for its launch event called Revfest. I got a pass, will be there at the event on 4 August at Pragati Maidan. Hope that Honda does not repeat a Jazz like situation (when it was launched some years ago) on the pricing aspect.

While collecting the pass at the dealership, also saw CBR 250R in red colour, looked quite attractive.

Interesting thing is that Honda is not mentioning it as launch event either on the pass or in its advertisements. It is being shown as a concert and a fashion show with performances by Kailash Kher and Faridkot band.

I am least interested in these fashion and music things. Hope Honda shows the real thing and announces the price at the earliest, that is it.
