Hi Friends,

Posting this question on behalf of a friend (who is not a member in TAI). Aviator owned by my friend seems to giving a pathetic mileage of 21 km/L
The driving is quite sedate, within city. It was bought in July2013, so almost less than a year old. Odo is approx 5500kms

After giving it to the service center folks (thrice for same problem), it is not rectified. It was Sai point (Thane) all this while. I have suggested my friend to try it with a difference service center, probably Vihaan (Thane)
Although, this may or may not help, I need suggestions from the experts in TAI.

Please help!

Re: Mileage issue - Aviator

Dear RVSB,

21kmpl is very bad at any case.

The actual mileage is between 35-40kmpl.

Ask your friend to check the air filter condition and replace it if it is not in good condition.

Please update us about the mileage once if the issue was rectified by other service center.

I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions:

What is the condition of his engine and gearbox oil?
Which oils is he using in both?
How many kms old is the spark plug?

Also, you may want to try adjusting the carburetor as the engine could be running rich. Had the same problem before as my scooty usually gives ~50 kpl, but one bad carburetor adjustment drove this down to ~36 kpl. Readjustment restored the original value.

I have HONDA aviator 3 years old with 11K on Oddo. I am constantly getting mileage between 45 to 50. You need to follow up with the service center.

Tips to follow to improve mileage!
~ Clean and correctly adjust the spark plug.
~ Change the spark plug if necessary.
~ Use tubeless tyres.
~ Use recommended tyre air pressure (depends on tyres).
~ Make your air/fuel mixture lean till some extent. Don't make it too lean as it would give birth to starting problems!!
~ Change the engine oil , gear oil.
~ Change\Clean the air filter depending on the Kms run.
~ Check free movement of brake liners.
~ Fill fuel from reputed petrol bunks like Shell, etc.
~ If battery died, Replace it.
~ Try to avoid unnecessary brakes and hard acceleration.
~ Last but not the Least, Maintain the Speed between 40-50 Km/h.

See this link too. It was prepared for all two wheelers but it can be useful too!

Thanks so much for directing me to this link. [:)]

Update - the issue has been resolved. I did not get a chance to meet my friend, but he confirmed that Sai Point SS guys solved it, as he had complained after unsuccessful attempts to fix by the same SS.

Pankaj, how does he calculate the mileage and which city does he live in?

Sorry buddy, but I don't have answers to all the questions, However I know that its just less than a year old. No major issues in the ride, other than mileage.
Odo is approx 5500kms
