Hi,

Welcome to TAI.

Performance: 40kmph - 100kmph -Gladiator
Performance: 0 - 60kmph - Shine/Stunner

Yamaha SS125:
+ves: Best looking bike, square engine (bore x stroke ratio is 1:1), very good mid range performance, exhaust note is very addictive after 5000rpm, best looking speedo console, unmatched bite force in the brakes, long soft seats (2adults + 1 laptop bag easily)

I have a SS125, I could not follow the "Run-in" due to hectic work schedule, hence my front disc brake has uneven wear (wobbling started at just 2K kms!). This bike has very good engine, average gear box, poor plastics & excellent paint quality. This bike is best enjoyed in the mid range - 50 - 80kmph driving conditions. Brakes are anyday better than even the Shine & the old unicorn. This bike has two major drawbacks - skinny plastics & very thin tyres. Also the best looking bike in its class for sure.

Honda Shine:
+ves: Simple styling, closed chain cover, smoothest engine & Honda badge.

Very good initial pick up (dont be surprised if you end up in a wheelie on your 1st test drive), one of the quickest commuter bikes (0 - 60 is really quick), seats are comfortable (but not as good as the SS125), again really thin tyres, average bite force in disc. Styling is very simple & plesant - family bike image is retained here.

I previously owned a bajaj Discover 100 (Dts-si) in 3yrs I drove 36000kms before selling it due to White smoke issue.
Electrical issues faced in 3yrs: NIL
Brake issue: Nil
Engine issues: Only in the end
Pick up & smoothness: Both dropped after 5months of usage (more vibrations)
Mileage:
1st year - realtime 85kmpl (and even more)
3rd year - 63kmpl (& still reducing)

recurring issues - clutch wears out sooner than other bikes, chain & sprocket change is a must at approx. 14K kms.

I have not driven the new discover 125 so no comments.

Best bike from the lot will be Honda Shine as explained by SS80 here, only thing missing is 5th gear other wise excellent bike in every aspect[:)]

If you are not very keen on 125, then check Honda dream Yuga 110 which I am using right now does a decent job for simple commuting

If it's performance and sportiness is what you seek in your bike then it's the Discover 125ST which wins hands down, if you want refinement then go for any Honda's.

Hello Frank,

I'm using HH Glamour from 2005 to till date. I've not faced not even a single issue with my bike. I mostly travelling on NH from Vellore-Chennai, that too Non-Stop[:D]. Glamour is perfect fit for Highway ride.

If you are a family person, I suggest you the Shine. Recently we brought a shine for my Brother-In-Law. Glamour rear seat is height when compare to other bikes in this segment, so it won't fit for a family person.

Shine is a perfect fit to Family person in 125cc.

Frank Welcome to TAI

could you please mention your requirements specifically, like what mileage you expecting? where you going to use bike more? city/Highway?looking for a comfortable travel or a sporty seat position? what is your height? How much is your average monthly running?Budget?

I had used 125cc bikes itself more than 1lakh Km and earlier i had owned & used gladiator around 78 K km and sold. Also experience with the HH super splendor(glamor same engine), Suzuki Zeus(Same sling shot engine), Bajaj Discover 125 DTsi, H shine.

1. gladiator- performance bike in the segment, but not expect more than 45 KMPl.
- bad quality materials
- thin alloy.
- low resale value
- initial pick up not good, feel stressed with pillion
+ Good engine.last more than 100k Km without any problem.
+ great looks, good meter console including rpm, speed,& Fuel meters.
+ good top end speed
2. Shine
- Same 100cc body(dream Yuga/dream Neo)
- thin tires
- Old model
- 5th gear missing really.at 80km/hr, engine feel like it will blast anytime.
+ constant milage950-55kmpl)
+ good initial pick up, don't feel stressed with pillion
+ good resale
3. Discover ST

- No experience with new discover ST,but done lot of long trips with old discover 125 Dtsi,a better bike than pulsar 150.good pick up & milage.Engine lasted really long.cannpt compare with other bajaj engines at that time.
4 HH super splendor/glamor
- Engine reliablity(expect oil burning anytime)
+ comfortable riding
+good resale( engine condition?)
5. Suzuki sling shot
-less BHP
-less initial pick up
- low resale value
+Bullet proof engine.Really lasts long.(One of my friend has a 2007 january model zeus. His daily run is around 150-200km.he still using it without a clutch change)
+good mileage
+good quality

waiting to know your requirements for suggesting one. my personal suggestion is either go for 100cc, for mileage, or go for 150cc for power.
