ever since i sold my zen i was left with my safari only.so i thought why not an old rx100 for short commutes.I bought this one and did some works to make it more stock.
the experience of riding a rx100 is unique.power in the first and second gears is moderate in most modern bikes but the rx rules in this powerband.up the throttle and power just screams in these two gears.
i believe the rx should have a fifth gear so that the engine will be more effective for better top speed.
i have driven around 800 km on this bike.it is ideal for traffic bugged streets of kollam.the bike has been very useful and brings back memories of my student days at S.N college.the bike is most useful in traffic clogged streets were it's agile and quick handling is a gift. The bike never had an issue so far .The rx still grabs attention and turns heads.the exhaust note is great and audible.
the rx is unstable while taking sharp turns due to it's light weight design so careless cornering is out of question.
i have done away with the oil pump and uses oil from petrol pumps because
oil pumps fail in mid run and the bike would be left without lubrication
i have reduced the mixture to lean so fuel consumption is frugal but sometimes the bike goes off especially in heavy traffic but constant throttle ensures this problem stays under control.
it has a slightly reduced performance due this carburetor setting economy is around 45 km/L in city which is good for the old 2 stroker.
its braking is good but only with good tires.braking is slightly reduced in rains so tires has to be well maintained.
these bikes are good prey for thieves because the engine with some mods can be used for small boats.
it's a special, handy piece of fine engineering from escorts-yamaha.it's light ,agile
feel makes raiding easy for me who has stayed away from two wheelers for almost a decade.
