HONDA DREAM NEO EFFECT: HERO SPLENDOR PRO GOLD SPECIAL EDITION LAUNCHED
Market leaders a are market leaders for a reason. One common thread that runs across market leaders is the fact that they are quite responsive to the moves of the competition. Last week, we say India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki, respond to the launch of the Honda Brio Amaze, by launching a special edition version of the India’s best selling sedan, the Swift Dzire Regal. This week, a similar story panned out as Honda launched the Dream Neo, a motorcycle aimed directly at the world’s largest selling motorcycle, the Hero Splendor. Hero MotoCorp has promptly responded to the launch of the Dream Neo by launching the Splendor Pro Gold Special Edition.
Hero MotoCorp’s reason for launching the Hero Splendor Pro Gold special edition, is to “celebrate the motorcycle’s 20 year old existence”. But then again, the timing seems pretty interesting considering the fact that the Hero Splendor Pro Gold gets only one major change: a golden colour paint job. Apart from the badge signifying its “special edition” credentials and the gold paint to go with it, the Splendor Pro Gold remains unchanged from the regular variants. The motorcycle continues to motor on with with the ultra reliable and fuel efficient 97.2 cc four stroke single cylinder engine. This engine outputs 7.8 PS of peak power at 7,500 rpm while peak torque is rated at 8.04 Nm at 4,500 rpm.
The Special Edition version of the Splendor Pro is priced at 48,500 rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, a price that represents thousand rupees more than the regular variants. The special edition model of the Splendor Pro sits at the top of the variant line up and comes with alloy wheels and a self start. The motorcycle has been a best seller for more than a decade now and continues to enjoy stiff demand across India. The Splendor’s leadership position has come under attack from a slew of competitors, from Bajaj’s Discover 100 to the TVS Star City, and yet the Splendor has managed to retain its best selling position. Now, the Honda Dream Neo is the latest upstart to compete directly with the Splendor. History will be the judge.
