We, 6 couples, are planning for weekend trip (by 14 seater A/C Tempo Traveller) to Thanjavur. I think, the route we may be using from Kannur(Kerala) to Palakkad, Coimbatore then to Thanjavur. We plan to leave on a Friday early morning and return by Sunday evening or Monday.

Can any one guide what best places/tourist points/Temples we can visit enroute??

Anything specific place to visit in Kumbakonam??
Its a temple town. So lots of temple around. You have Kumbeshwarar temple (Kumbakonam derived its name from this temple). It is famous for the Mahamaham festival. Then you have the Navagraha Stalas, you have some of the 108 Divya desam temples and some more temples [;)]. I think it is difficult to cover them all given your time frame. I would suggest Kumbeshwarar temple and Navagraha Stalas. If possible Uppiliappan temple. Rest probably you can do it on another day. Kumbakonam alone requires a separate travelogue [lol]. There are so many temples and places to see in an around Kumbakonam. If possible, try Kumbakonam degree coffee. Tastes excellent.

One of the main attractions near Munnar is the Eravikulam National Park. This park is famous for its endangered inhabitant - the Nilgiri Tahr. Spread over an area of 97 sq. km., this park is also home to several species of rare butterflies, animals and birds. One of the main attractions near Munnar is the Eravikulam National Park. A great place for trekking, the park offers a magnificent view of the tea plantations and also the rolling hills caressed by blankets of mists.Be it a vacation with your family or a business trip with your colleagues, you just have to stop in the Old Munnar and give us a call for your accommodation in Ajay Inn, located in Theatre Bazaar. The park becomes a hot destination when the hill slopes here get covered in a carpet of blue, resulting from the flowering of Neelakurinji.

It might take a solid 1 hour from Thanjavur to Kumbakonam in a Tempo Traveller but it is certainly worth a drive to visit those temples. In Thanjavur, you have "Brihadeeswarar Temple" - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
