Shringeri, Horanadu Route Enquiry

Hi All,
We are planning for a family trip in the last week of December, probably on Dec 29th, We are 5 and will be driving in Swift VDI,
Places planned to visit are
1. Shringeri
2. Horanadu
3. Kolluru Mookambika
4. Murudeshwara
5. Jog falls
Planning to take the following route: Bangalore -> Hassan -> Belur -> Mudigere -> Hornadu -> Shringeri -> Kollur Mookambika -> Murudeshwara -> Honnavara -> Jog falls -> Shimoga -> Bangalore
Please suggest me on the routes and the current road conditions.

Hi Chandru,

Bangalore - Hassan - Belur - Horanadu Excellent road. You may find rough surface here and there between Belur and Hornadu.
Belur town road condition was pathetic 20 days before.

From Horanadu to Sringeri you have 2 routes
1) Horanadu - Balehole - Basarikatte - Agalagandi - Sringeri. Single narrow road in okay condition cross through thick forests. Some time it is so much isolated that you may not find any creatures for some time. This is around 60 Kms.

2) Horanadu - Kalasa - Kudremukh - SK Border(take right here) - Sringeri. Beautiful scenic route. You are crossing Bhagavathi Reserve forest area and entry ticket will be issued and you have to cross other gate within stipulated time. You will find Hanumangundi Falls on the way. Distance is around 80 Kms.

I have not traveled on either of these 2 routes from last 2 years.

Sringeri - Agumbe - Someshwara (take right, straight will go to Hebri, Karkala/Udupi)- Haladi - Ampar - Vandse - Kollur. Good road with some rough patches. Distance is around 115 Kms

Kollur - Byndoor - Bhatkal - Murdeshwar NH 66 (Old NH 17) is in Pathetic condition. Be careful on this region as private buses and Lorries occupy entire road on either direction.

Murdeshwar - Honnavar, again NH 66 about 25 Kms is Ok to bad condition.

Honnavar - Jogfalls - Sagar - Shimoga - Arsikere - Bangalore. Excellent road. Only bad patch between Tarikere - Kadur for about 500 Meters and Tumakur bypass.

From Arsikere you may choose Chennarayapatna- Nelamangala route(6 line) also. Distance will exceeds around 25 Kms.

There are many speedbreakers in between Arsikere - Tumkur. I would suggest you to take Chennarayaptna route, though it is 25 Km more.
