RNS is the best at Murudeshwar. Have stayed in Dec-13 and ask for sea facing rooms. It is literally on the sea.
However tariff is little expensive.

Be careful on th forest road from Jog to Murudeshwar as roads are little narrow.

Last year I toured these places exactly in the August Month in Tavera. Fully loaded Hatch back will do good job. If you are comfortable in hill driving.

I got light / heavy shower in between but not through out the trip. We have slowed our driving speed but not stopped. But drive carefully while raining

This season is one of the best time to visit these places. Enjoy your trip safely.

You can cover these places, just my suggestions.

Idagunji - Balaganesh Temple
Kollur - Mookambiga Temple.
Malpe - St.Mary's Island (good place to see, Don't forget. Attached some pic for your reference)

St. Mary's Islands - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scientific studies indicate that the basalt of the St. Mary's Islands was formed by sub-aerial subvolcanic activity, because at that time Madagascar was attached to India. The rifting of Madagascar took place around 88 Mya.[2]

The islands form one of the four geological monuments in Karnataka state, one of the 26 Geological Monuments of India declared by the Geological Survey of India in 2001. The monument is considered an important site for "Geo Tourism".
