WhatsApp dark mode is finally here for Android and iOS; makes a short film to celebrate

WhatsApp has just announced that it is finally rolling out the much anticipated Dark mode on its platform. As part of the rollout, users across the globe will start receiving the dark mode starting today. The company claims that this mode gives a fresh feel to a familiar experience. It will also ensure that users experience less strain on their eyes in low-lit environments. However, the company has not gone with pure black and white colors as it results in eye fatigue. Instead, WhatsApp has tweaked the colors to include dark gray along with off-white colors. These colors decrease the brightness of the screen along with reduced glare.

WhatsApp working on self-destructing messages: Here is how it will work

The much-awaited WhatsApp Dark Mode feature finally came to stable users on iOS and Android a while ago. With the feature finally out for people to use, here is what WhatsApp has next in store for users – self-destructing messages.

The app implemented the feature in the last two beta versions, reports WABetaInfo. These are versions 2.20.83 and 2.20.84. The option to send timed messages can be found only in private messages as of now. The expiry period of these messages can be set depending on needs. The options are as of now one hour, one day, one month and one year. The feature also comes with a timer. This timer appears next to these self-destructing WhatsApp messages once they are sent. They will help users keep track of how much longer the messages are available.

How to read deleted WhatsApp messages?

WhatsApp a while back announced the ability to delete messages that are sent. This was useful in cases where you don’t want the recipient to read the message due to numerous reasons. But, if you really want to read the deleted message, you can use the WhatsRemoved+ app available on the Google Playstore. The app essentially records the message as soon as they show up on your notification and that way even if the sender deletes the message, it will still remain saved on the app. Here’s how you can do it

WhatsApp continues to improve its multi-device support feature

According to the noted source of WhatsApp-related leaks, WABetaInfo, the company has added a new change to the multi-device support feature. Taking a closer look, now, WhatsApp can send a “new device” notification to other contacts. As per the report, one will be able to see if their WhatsApp contact has added their WhatsApp account on a new device. WhatsApp will send a message stating “ABC’s device list changed. Tap for more info.” ABC here will be the name of the user who added WhatsApp account to a new device. This notification is similar to the one we get when a user re-installs or installs WhatsApp.

WhatsApp takes steps to control forwards messages

In an attempt to curb the spread of misinformation, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature Which limits the frequency of sharing forward messages. Once a user has Forwarded a message five or more times will now be able to forward it to just one more chat or contact at a time. Today’s move is a follow up of WhatsApp’s earlier update where it had limited users from forwarding a message to more than five users at once.

Apart that from that Facebook-owned WhatsApp is also testing another feature which will empower users to find out more information about the forwarded messages shared with them. It will do so by displaying a magnifying glass icon next to the frequently forwarded messages, giving users the option to send that message to a web search where they can find news results or other sources of information. Whatsapp believes that double-checking forward messages before forwarding them again may help reduce the spread of rumours.

WhatsApp beta for iOS removes 'contact sharing' feature; here's why

Back in March 2020, WhatsApp released a new content sharing feature for iPOS users that was pretty useful. The new feature made the share sheet menu on iPhones display WhatsApp contact suggestions. The functionality enabled users to share content with WhatsApp users quickly by tapping on the name on the share sheet. However, on the latest beta update, the new feature has been completely removed.

This is likely because of the many crashing issues with the share sheet that people noticed. Hence, on the latest WhatsApp Beta 2.20.42, the feature is gone. Instead, users see only the WhatsApp icon. They must tap this and then select the contact they’d like to share content with.

WhatsApp group calls now support up to 8 participants

As per a report by WABetaInfo, up to eight participants can now join a WhatsApp call and the new group calling participant limit is now live on WhatsApp beta version 2.20.133 on Android and 2.20.50.25 on iOS. Since this feature is currently rolled out for beta users, it is expected that the feature will be rolling out to the stable version as well in coming days.

As per a screenshot provided by the report, WhatsApp will notify the caller if they aren’t on the latest version and ask him/her to select fewer participants. “Several people are using an old version of WhatsApp. To start calls with 8 proper, all participants need the latest version of WhatsApp” reads the screenshot.

WhatsApp beta 2.20.143 for Android hints at upcoming multi-device support

Instant messaging application WhatsApp recently submitted a new update through the Google Play Store, available to all users under its beta program. The new update has the version number 2.20.143. The much-awaited multi-device feature that the company has been working on since last year is still not here. However, small elements and hints towards the incoming feature are now beginning to show.

As per a report by WABetaInfo, the implementation of WhatsApp multi-user support is just beginning in the new beta update. The feature allows you to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices. Logging in from a secondary device will still keep the same account logged in on another device. WhatsApp has already started adding elements that hint at the arrival of the feature on Android. This includes the “Use WhatsApp on other devices text”.

Once the user will click on the Messenger Rooms Shortcut, WhatsApp will show an introduction of the feature and if a user decides to create a room, the app will redirect it to the Messenger application.
