Volkswagen! These spy pics confirm that Volkswagen is busy testing the CNG variant of its smallest sedan here in India, Featured here is a red hot Vento with CNG pipes and a few wires running through the roof from the rear trunk. We spotted this mule yesterday afternoon in Pune, followed it up for a few kms and after noticing us taking pictures, this Vento driver took a turn and sped away.

The interiors were also all full with wires hanging everywhere,The Volkswagen Vento CNG would have a factory fitted kit unlike Honda City CNG. Expected price hike would be in the range of Rs 50,000- 60,000. We expect the launch to take place pretty soon. Now that we have revealed the Vento CNG to you, let us turn our attention to the next probable candidate, Skoda Rapid, if the Germans are planning to equip it with this cheaper fuel option.

Re: VW Vento CNG coming soon

Everyone feeling heat for selling their petrol version. Honda City with CNG and now Vento with CNG. But what is govt doing about the availability of the same across the country?? Nothing. [frustration]

good question, having a nation wide CNG network will reduce our dependence on imported fuel and CNG is more greener than diesel or petrol which in turn will save govt the health bills, but the big head's don't seem to care about these facts.

But who knows that the under table money they can earn from setting up CNG across India will be considerably less, so they are not interested at all. [;)]

Could be, anyway it's a good move from VW as this will help them to move some petrol engines from the factory.l

Govt. had quite ambitious plans for CNG networks in India. Lately, though, the regulatory body 'PNGRB' has gone slow on giving green signal to expansion of CNG network in sub urban areas. Reason being low gas availability in the country as most gas is consumed by high priority sector like power, fertilizer sectors. If imported gas is used for CNG purposes, the gas would be really unaffordable and it will not give benefits over diesel hence the govt. is apprehensive of approving new projects of CNG.

There will be a gap in expansion of network, but from 2014-15 the CNG network will definitely grow along with domestic piped gas network in major Indian cities and then in adjoining cities.

VW's move to introduce CNG variants is to sustain buyers' interest in the market by giving them more options to choose. Not a bad move at all.

P.S: I work in the gas industry!!
