VW's Budget Car for Emerging Market's is Nearing Approval - If approved the group will have the 13th sub brand[:)]

Europe's largest carmaker has been trying for more than a year to hit internal cost requirements for the vehicle, which would likely sell for between 6,000 euros ($8,300) and 8,000 euros and be built in China, the biggest market for budget cars.

VW brand development chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser said at the Geneva auto show on March 4 that it was becoming more and more difficult to hit cost goals for the budget car, adding it made no sense to approve a vehicle that was not meeting in-house targets.

VW lacks a strong presence in markets such as India and southeast Asia which are dominated by no-frills models, and without a successful budget car, analysts have questioned whether the group will be able to meet its goal of becoming the world's biggest carmaker by 2018

Re: VW close to enter the budget brand - India on priority list

According to a media report, it is primarily found in Asia paragraph - possibly 500,000 times a year.
But the final steps are "Budget Cars" under a new, then 13 Corporate brand to be sold. The sale should start end of 2016 or early 2017 in China, where VW will build the car together with one of its local partners. Later might markets such as India and Southeast Asia become the focus

VW's Budget brand to start off with China in 2017, India will be next! This could be VW's 13th sub brand!
It will be interesting to see what brand name is used, and the choice will indicate how serious the company is about the budget range
Expect Volkswagen “to keep the price under 7,000 euros ($9,643) and to use a different brand name
Volkswagen’s low cost line would have to sell at roughly half of its target price. This is where Datsun’s redi-Go is rumored to sell. This new from the ground-up car has been shown at the Delhi motor show in concept form. It is expected to hit the Indian market some time next year.

Any chance of VW Polo 1.5 TDI + DSG in July? This will be a good combination as with lesser excise duty for Polo 1.5 TDI, they can keep 1.5 Polo + DSG around 8 laks ex-show room.

Yes there is high probability the 'facelit' Polo will debut with this variant too in July.

Volkswagen studying possibility of introducing a budget brand for Indian market a decision is likely to be taken in the next one year, and if the plan works, the product/brand will take at least 3-4 years to hit the market. A product in sub 5 lakh is what VW is talking of.

VW's immediate plans for India will be to bring in 6-7 new product actions, including facelifts of the existing Polo and Vento and the new sub-4 meter sedan (Polo Stuffe), a compact SUV and the new Jetta, Passat, Beetle and Tiguan at the premium end of the market to spruce up its image over the next 2-3 years.

VW is putting all the things in place for a better run in the next three-four years, with the company aiming for a market share of 7-9% for the entire group by the end of 2018-2020/.

VW eyes budget car cooperation with Great Wall.

Volkswagen is considering cooperating with China's Great Wall on a new budget model.
One option that had been discussed in talks with Great Wall was Volkswagen taking a stake in the Chinese car maker.
Volkswagen has struggled to develop a budget car for emerging markets, a key part of its drive to become the world's biggest automaker, because it found it difficult to keep costs for the vehicle low enough.
