German carmaker Volkswagen is slowly but surely transitioning to a more Indian way of doing things. Whilst its current models are more in line with international standards and western tastes, VW is realising that it needs to align itself better with the Indian customer.

The Volkswagen Polo facelift is launching soon and it will come with a whole new set of goodies like LED-equipped headlights, an integrated reversing camera and power folding mirrors that have turn indicators incorporated into them.

The big news, of course, is the new 89bhp 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, specifically developed for India that will replace the unexceptional 1.2-litre three-pot diesel, which was one of the weaknesses of the car. To keep costs in check, VW will also manufacture the engine at its Chakan plant, which is a massive step towards the localisation of the car.

The Vento will also get the same 1.5 TDi, but a more powerful version developing 104bhp, which is similar to the outgoing 1.6 diesel. The surprise is that a DSG transmission for the diesel engine will also be made available. The twin-clutch auto ’box is likely to be offered in the Vento sometime towards the end of the year, and this could be followed by the Polo 1.5 TDi automatic using the same transmission.

The Vento will also get feature upgrades, most of which are focussed on the rear seats. VW has confirmed that a rear-seat entertainment package will have individual screens in the front headrests, and is on the cards, as is a higher airbag count. VW India may also spice up the Vento with generous doses of chrome accents to appeal to Indian tastes. The Vento, which has VW’s typically understated looks, isn’t seen to be as exciting as cars like the Verna and City.

Re: Volkswagen Polo and Vento To Get More New Features

Whoa thats big news,i dint like the Polo diesel cos of the 3 pot engine as the 4 pot in the Vento itself was crazy loud enough. If they introduce the DSG & a 4 cylinder engine then its a good combo, the only question now is the price.
We already have petrol variant DSG of the Polo & Vento(not many are aware) which have good reviews only the petrol prices are against it.
Ford seems to have been beating VW when it comes to DSg worldwide, need to see the quality & reliability of the DSg here in India.

Apart from ths cosmetic changes, the Engine is the biggest of all.
The new Polo will now get a 1.5-litre engine ( Localized) which will also be used in the Vento. The same engine in Vento will make 104bhp with the Polo getting a few lesser horses.
The Polo GT will get 104bhp and may also get the six-speed DSG transmission.

Re: Volkswagen Polo and Vento To Get More New Features

Volkswagen Polo base variant's sales halted

Volkswagen India that announced to offer the Polo with airbags (Driver and co-passenger) as a standard feature, has now stopped selling old models of the base trim 'Trendline'. Volkswagen dealers across the nation have stopped taking orders for the base trim, which will resume once the airbags-fitted models are delivered to them, our source reveals.

NDTV was the first one to bring the NCAP crash test report of the Indian hatchbacks, in which all the popular cars including Tata Nano, Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo failed the test. However, the Polo and Figo managed to score better than others because of their structural integrity. Others failed miserably in all the tests scoring zero.

Volkswagen launches Vento 'Preferred' edition with heavy discounts

In a bid to boost its sales in the Indian market, Volkswagen India has rolled out the special edition Vento called the 'Preferred' in India today. Based on the Vento Comfortline diesel variant (model year 2013), the Preferred edition comes up with an additional accessory pack of worth Rs. 51,000. On the outside, the Vento Preferred edition gets new alloy wheels, chrome window embellishment, trunk spoiler, different side door protectors and stylish door visors. While inside the cabin, the Preferred edition has been offered with leatherette seat covers and doorstep garnish. The special edition also gets a reverse camera display that also works as a navigation system.

Looks like the new variants would be launched soon in the market.

Also, good move by VW. Now lets hope that other manufacturers will follow the same trend, and stop delivering cars without safety features. [clap]

Re: Volkswagen Polo and Vento To Get More New Features

Volkswagen to launch the Polo facelift in India by July 2014.

Apart from the cosmetiv changes, what really matters is the powertrain.
The facelifted Polo will have a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel motor. This motor has been downsized from the current 1.6 and is expected to make the same power and torque figures as the latter (105PS/250Nm). The engine will be mated to a DSG automatic gearbox. This move will also help Volkswagen to get excise benefits applicable to cars under 4m and with 1.5l diesel engines.

Expect the 1.5l Diesel engine to appear shortly in the Vento and Rapid

Re: Volkswagen Polo and Vento To Get More New Features

Here is all you have to know about the Facelift Polo, coming in July.

Features like a new front bumper with redesigned fog lights, a new rear bumper, and taillights among other changes will help lend it a refreshed look
The Polo facelift's biggest change will be under its hood. It will hopefully get a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel motor, which is essentially the downsized version of the existing 1.6-litre diesel unit that powers the Polo GT TDI. The power output and torque figures will most likely remain the same as that of the 1.6-litre diesel engine. Given the smaller diesel engine, the updated Polo will thus be able to enjoy excise duty benefits given to sub 4-metre cars with petrol and diesel engines with a capacity below or equal to 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre, respectively.

2014 Volkswagen Polo facelift pictured undisguised. Expect a July launch

India-spec interior seen for the first time; misses out on some changes from the international model.the biggest change for India in the facelifted VW Polo will be under the hood. While this car is the base 1.2 petrol version, and the 1.2 TSI turbo-petrol is also likely to return, the diesel engine will be all-new. The newly developed 1.5-litre TDI engine will be available in two states of tune – 89bhp and 104bhp – with the latter reserved for the Polo GT TDI model.

Re: Volkswagen Polo and Vento To Get More New Features

My friend had an polo highline petrol but later his family's needs changed and they bought xuv500.

i think the quality and drivability provided by polo in the hatchback segment cannot be provided by any other hatchback provided in india. Its main rival is i20 but we all know that drivability of that car is nowhere near to polo.last swift is bought in india due to resale and after sale servive.

we all want to buy polo but many of us shy away because of low resale and some horrible after sales story

Re: Volkswagen Polo and Vento To Get More New Features

Excellent scoop. The changes noticed on this indian facelift version compared to the existing version are:

Front:
1.) Double barrel headlights with black inserts. (It is missing the DRL of the international version though).
2.) Single chrome line on the Grill whereas the pre-facelift had three chrome lines.
3.) Revised bumper with a long chrome line passing through it which accommodates the revised fog lamp design.

Side:
1.) The ORVM misses the turn indicators as that of the international version. Here it is placed in the fender area as that of the pre-facelift version.
2.) Different set of alloy wheels (like the base version of Passat [:)]) but looks like only 15".
Visually no other changes on the sides apart from the alloys.

Rear:
1.) Slightly redesigned bumper with reflectors integrated.
2.) Very slight change to the tail lamp cluster.

Interiors:
1.) Totally different steering wheel with steering mounted controls on both sides and piano black inserts. The controls have additional options than the existing version.
2.) New big MID with white fonts. Hopefully it gets additional features than the existing version.
3.) The instrument dials are the same as that of the existing version. Here it misses out the international version of the facelift with 3D effect and chrome dials.
4.) The ICE looks to be the same. Only difference is that it is surrounded by silver accents.
5.) Dead pedal is available at-least in this variant.
6.) The rear seats have a L-shaped head rests (like the international version) where it does not hinder the rear view for the driver when not it use.[;)]
