Motorbeam Reports......

Volkswagen India will launch the new Beetle in Mumbai on the 4th of December. The car which is being imported from VW’s Mexico facility is a CBU and will cost Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company is not targeting high sales as the Bettle’s presence in Volkswagen’s portfolio is more of a brand building exercise to ensure the Polo has a successful run in the volume segment. The bug is powered by a 2.0L petrol powerplant with 115bhp of power and 172Nm of torque mated to a 6 speed automatic tiptronic gearbox.

The 2010 Beetle is equipped with rain sensing wipers, cruise control, 15 inch alloys (4), ABS, ESP, dual SRS airbags, remote central locking, heat insulating windshield, CD changer with 6 speakers audio system, front center armrests and acoustic rear parking sensors. The car is a 4 seater with 2 doors and is has a hard top. Bookings are open and you can book yours now by paying Rs. 2 lakhs. It will be available in 7 colours namely candy white, laser blue pearl, sunflower yellow, salsa red, gecko green metallic, reflex silver metallic and deep black pearl.

Is Fiat 500 CBU or is it built here in india?
Yes, It will come via CBU Route.

Not sure when we will see it on road.
Till date i have seen only 2 Fiat 500 in bangalore on-road.
But considering its price, there will not be many takers in our country!FIAT 500 proved it already! what can this iconic beetle do now?
Why you're expecting Beetle to be a Mass Seller?, Even the Fiat 500.
Fiat and VolksWagen have no plans to sell the thier models 500 and Beetle respectively, in large volumes which we see from Tatas and Marutis.
Introduction of these Models in country is just a brand building technique.

I agree Vibhor!

I didn't expect VW to place in Maruti or Hyundai's Segment!

I mean, it should have been priced some what reasonable which will attract many buyers!

We all know that these cars are of course Status Symbols in India :)

Quite Unfortunate that it can't be done due to higher import duties as both cars come via CBU way, Otherwise they would cost almost half the price they are being offered currently.

Beetle, the original ‘people’s car’ and highest-selling car in the world till the late 70s, has already netted 160 customers in India vying to become its first owners before its scheduled December 4 launch. Advance bookings for small luxury cars are not common in India, and riding on this positive sentiment Volkswagen expects to sell 500 Beetles next year.

Beetle, priced 22 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) will come in a single 2-litre petrol variant, which will be available for delivery immediately after the launch. It will come with a 6-speed automatic gear box and deliver 13-14 km/litre. Its advanced safety features include anti-lock brake system and multiple-air bags, while the 15 inch alloy wheels will be standard.

The first car in the world to sell over 20 million units in the 80s, it will bear the tag line of The Return of the Legend as it had been a quintessential car in the Indian market for decades.

Volkswagen passenger cars director Neeraj Garg said that Beetle will be imported from Mexico as a completely built unit attracting 110% import duty making it four times expensive than Polo, which will be made locally at Volkswagen’s plant at Pune plant.

The luxury small car market in India has been pretty dull. BMW has indefinitely delayed the launch of its sporty hatchback, Mini, and Fiat 500 that comes at a price tag of Rs 15 lakh has had a lackluster response, selling only 62 cars since its launch 17 months back.

Volks Wagen Launches Iconic Beetle in India!

Yes, VW has today finally introduced the iconic Beetle in India, An article below from Carazoo.
After the success of the Jetta and the Passat in India, Volkswagen has launched the much-awaited New Beetle in Mumbai. The Volkswagen Beetle is a classic car. It is a two-door four-seater hatchback that combines classic lines with the latest technology. The Beetle will come in a colour palette of Salsa Red, Sunflower, Deep Black, Razor Blue, Reflex Silver, Gecko Green and Campanella White.

This iconic car was initially called the Kafer, the German word for "beetle", from which the popular English name originates. Since August 1967, Volkswagen began using the name Beetle for this brand.

Also known as the “Bug”, the Beetle came into being in 1938 when Adolf Hitler ordered Ferdinand Porsche to design a "people's car". Erwin Komenda, Porsche's chief designer, was responsible for the design and style of the car. When the car was launched, critics had predicted a complete failure for the Beetle because of its peculiar styling and less powerful engine, but the car proved the critics wrong and went on to make history.

The original Beetle had the longest production run of any vehicle ever from 1938-2003. The Beetle has revolutionized the world by being the best selling single design car in history with a sales record of more than 21.5 million units. The New Beetle was introduced in 1998 and it drew heavy inspiration from the exterior design of the original Beetle. Unlike the original Beetle, the New Beetle has its engine in the front with front wheel drive and luggage storage in the rear.

The New Beetle comes with a 2.0L I4 petrol engine which can churn out 115 bhp. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the engine shows low figures for fuel consumption at an average of 13.5 km/l and complies to the stringent Euro IV emission norms. It has been imported from Volkswagen's Mexico factory as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) which attracts an import duty of 110 per cent.

With its immortal rounded contours, the Volkswagen New Beetle is an unmistakable designer object on four wheels. The New Beetle flaunts body-coloured outer rear mirrors, door handles and bumpers and runs on 15-inch alloy wheels. The beady headlamps commands attention and the circular tail lamps add grace to the rear fascia. The bonnet with the Volkswagen emblem inscribed on it is an example of outstanding workmanship and appears as if the car is giving you a wide grin.

Coming to the inside, the car greets you with the with the legendary flower vase and top-class leather upholstery. The cozy cabin adds a touch of sophistication to the car with the leather-covered steering wheel rim, gear lever knob and handbrake lever grip as well as premium leather seats. This classic hatchback includes standard features like electrically adjustable mirrors, 3-spoke tilt/telescoping power steering wheel, traction control, central locking, MP3 compatible "gamma CD" radio with Aux-in, height-adjustable front seats, electric sliding roof with sunblind and many more.

The Beetle assures safety of its passengers with ABS with EBD, EDL, ESP, front head restraints and dual-frontal and side airbags. With an ex-show room price Mumbai price of around Rs 23 Lakh, the Beetle will certainly grace the garage of the rich car enthusiasts.
