Re: VW Polo Cross Caught Testing in India

As autocar is reporting that vw might put a wheel at the back , do you guys think it is possible ? Because if they were planning vw would have done the testing already right ? . But anyway the polo looks hot as it is and this cross polo is looking even hotter specially the red one .

I don't think the rear wheel would be there, as seen in spy models. Anyways it looks absurd on low height car and defeats the purpose of a hatch over sedan. VW, if in good state of mind, will not add the rear wheel.

Re: VW Polo Cross Caught Testing in India

Yes i agree with Righnow here. Had they have decided to put the rear wheel, i am sure the test vehicles would have had them on. Since the 2-3 spy pics we have don't have a rear wheel on them, i am pretty much sure we won't be getting that. Plus it will look a little absurd. With this offroad cladding and increased ground clearance, it does offer a little more than the regular Polo. A sincere request to VW, please provide 17 inch alloy wheels as the European version in this one. I am sure few will buy this car just for that.[:D]

Volkswagen Cross Polo might be launched for Indian market in August

Volkswagen is likely to launch the Cross Polo in August. It has been spied testing on multiple occasions near Pune and Mumbai sans camouflage, a sign that the company has finalised the India spec design as well as engine line up.

The Cross Polo is basically a muscular version of the standard Polo and features cosmetic modifications on the outside to make the car look bigger. The bulking up comes in the form of plastic cladding on the sides, taller wheels, roof rails and larger bumpers both in the front and the back. These are changes similar to what was seen on the Skoda Fabia Scout.

Inside the Polo Cross remains pretty much the same as the standard car. The engine line up and underpinnings are all expected to remain the same as the standard car. This means that the Polo Cross, if launched, will be offered with one diesel mill and two petrol mills of which the latter includes the 1.2-litre 105PS TSI engine that was launched with the Polo GT. Power is transmitted to the front wheels vi a five speed manual or the seven speed DSG box that comes with Polo GT (petrol only).

Volkswagen dealers in Nepal say that the Cross Polo will be available there by the end of August and that means we should get it at least a month before. Since there is a sudden surge in demand for crossovers in the Indian market, this seems like a quick way to join the bandwagon before the competition gets ahead. It is also a sign that the German automaker sees potential for the Cross Polo despite its Czech sibling, the Fabia Scout, not doing too well during its time here.

VW Cross Polo spot testing

Volkswagen aren’t talking about their model plans for the year and stopped at confirming variant extensions, technology extensions or carline extensions. An all-new Volkswagen product isn’t coming this fiscal year and the focus remains on volume development of the Polo and Vento.

The Cross Polo is a raised Polo that sports an added ground clearance of 15mm over the normal Polo, roof rails, a front skid protector, circular foglights (as seen on the Vento) and obviously a higher asking price.

Volkswagen can see petrol, turbocharged petrol, diesel, dual clutch automatic transmission and a conventional automatic transmission in their current parts bin. Virtually any combination is possible on the drivertrain department. The interiors may not have anything spectacularly different except for new trims and colors.

Interesting point to note that the car was seen near Karnal and not in VW's testing ground,Pune. This could only mean one thing the car's launch is just about the corner.[clap]

Re: VW Polo Cross Caught Testing in India

That's good news. Yesterday one of my cousin in Chandigarh told me that he saw a Polo with roof rails and unusual front look and apparently to him it looked a little longer too. I thought he must have seen a regular Polo with an add-on accessory of the roof rails but it might just be that he may have seen this very Cross Polo as its seen testing near Karnal which is about 120kms away from Chandigarh.

On a funny side, somebody already rear ended this test mule.[lol]

Roof rails give XPolo a sporty look. I am sure many people will think X Polo as a Polo with a body kit [:)] pricing is going to be a key factor in deciding the success or failure of this model. On a different note this is the first time I have seen a test mule which has faced the wrath of some innocent Indian driver [evil]

VW Cross Polo caught testing in Delhi

Volkswagen is busy testing their Cross Polo for the Indian market and in pursuit the test mule has reached Delhi.

Caught in Pitampura area, this Cross Polo mule runs with a slightly deformed rear hatch door which might have been caused due to some minor accident. For all of you who are confused about so many new variants of Polo Indian auto media is talking about, we will summarize it for your quick understanding.

After launching the turbocharged petrol Polo TSI, Volkswagen’s next car is this, Cross Polo. Cross Polo is a variant of Polo which comes with slightly bigger dimensions and a better off-road capability. Apart from cosmetic differences like more pronounced wheel arches, roof rails, body cladding, Cross Polo also gets a higher ground clearance to tackle bad roads with better poise.

All the test mules that have been caught so far, are diesels (which can be made out from their ‘TDI’ badges), and hence it is expected that Volkswagen might only launch it in diesel guise. The good news is that Cross Polo will get Vento’s 1.6L TDI motor which produces 105PS of peak power output and 250Nm of maximum torque. What tune will it go into this Cross Polo is not known but it can be safely assumed that it will not be much different.

These spyshots also reveal that Cross Polo also shares its alloys with the current Polo. In the interest of keeping the car competitively priced in India, Volkswagen will opt for gross parts sharing between siblings which will help the German manufacturer in keeping this Cross Polo a lucrative option for those who seek a hatch-like comfort with some rough-road credentials.

Re: VW Polo Cross Caught Testing in India

According to Autocar India, Cross Polo is being softly launched tomorrow in the Indian market. Demo vehicles have already reached many dealerships across India. The car will come in only one top of the line variant and with only 1.2TDI engine option.

Additions in the Cross Polo as compared to the regular Highline Polo

1. Additional thick matte black body cladding all around.

2. Different front grill with single slat. Looks really good IMO.

3. New design 16 Inch alloy wheels as compared to 15inch in regular Polo.

4. Silver anodised roof rails for extra luggage.

5. Silver diffuser at the rear.

6. Higher Ground clearance.

Will be priced 70-80,000 more than the regular Polo, so we can expect a ex-showroom price of 7.99Lacs. It looks good from the spy pics, but at 8.6Lacs ex showroom, a fully loaded Ecosport Titanium diesel seems to be a much better bet if someone does plan to go for a soft off-roader. Hope this one doesn't end up like the Fabia Scout which is even difficult to spot on road here than a Lamborgini.[;)]
