My friend is selling Jan'14 Duster (Diesel) 85ps RXL Opt in Rs6L. Current odometer at 40K. He will continue to use it for until this year so will add few thousands km. He has done some customization like sub-woofers & speakers, reverse parking & replaced Tyre as well.

1. This will be my first car if I decided to buy.
2. Of course, I have some vehicle in my mind but can't really afford to buy a new one.
3. I have not inspected vehicle. Thought I noticed some rattling sound inside cabin during short drive. This may be due to reasons like: due to age of vehicle or over inflated tyre
4. I have some doubts as this vehicle has clocked 40K, I sense some other issues like brake pad or clutch pad or something else in near future and I may end-up spending few thousands
5. I expect that he may go down a bit on price side as there are few months to go for him.

Question:
1. Is it worth considering & VFM?
2. Are there any specific factors to look for based on odometer & vehicle age?

Thanks

3. Cabin trim rattle or metal noise? If it is trims, nothing to worry about
4. Brake pads, yes. Clutch should last for at least 75k km (if driven with care)

1. Is it worth? Yes
VFM? Depends on lot of factors including how well the vehicle is taken care of, validity of insurance, body and tire conditions, service history.
In Chennai, 2014 dusters (high miles) go for as low as 3.8L and good examples retail for upto 5L

2. Renault k9k injectors are sensitive to fuel quality, beware. Otherwise nothing to worry for a 40k driven vehicle.

You are open to used market,so as an opinion, I would not really suggest you to spend 6 lakhs on Duster.
Check some other used cars such as Old gen accord or, if you want sa SUV, probably you can lay hands on a 2011 Ford Endeavour too, or a mighty Tata Safari Dicor, which could be fetched for around 3-4 lakhs...
Anyways, do check the car fully, and take someone else too, with you for a finer inspection.
I made a bad choice and ended up with a lemon.
