Yesterday we bid adieu to 2012 which witnessed a whole lot of new car launches and facelifts alike, it took the Indian automotive sector a level ahead with some game changing car models. Next twelve months promise to be much more thrilling to heat up the battle ground than ever before. The Automotive India has compiled a segment-wise list of new car models which are expected to mark their presence in a short while. Who knows – You could be the owner of one of these cars soon. :smile:

Hatchbacks


Tata Nano (Upgrade)

Tata Motors is all set to provide the next round of refreshment to Nano. While the car will receive certain apparent upgrades, there are strong possibilities of CNG (In first half of 2013) and Diesel (By End-2013), along with a powerful 800CC Petrol engine making its way in sometime.

Maruti Suzuki A-Star Facelift

Those who do not find the looks of current A-Star much exciting now have a reason to rejoice. Maruti Suzuki could soon be releasing a facelifted avatar of A-Star with certain tweaks in the design to make it more appealing. It might make debut as early as in March / April. Plus, there are rumors of a price drop to encourage the sales.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R Facelift

Maruti Suzuki is ready with a mid-life makeover of Wagon-R in this tensed competition. You will find changes more or less on the fascia which makes the car look more sophisticated than existing model. The launch isn’t too far and could take place anytime within a couple of months from now. Apart from it, there are rumors of a diesel engine in Wagon-R but there's no concrete information on when it will be available.

Chevrolet Beat Facelift

General Motors has decided to introduce a refreshed Beat which was launched in the international market more than a year ago. This move is to make Beat in line with Chevrolet’s latest ‘family design’ and any major changes are not expected whatsoever.

Tata Indica XL

Tata Motors is testing a mysterious car from some time now which is speculated to be a stretched version of Indica (XL). This version of Indica will largely target the commercial sector similar to Indigo XL. Specific details are still unknown but it is expected to launch at least by the end of 2013.

Mahindra Reva NXR e20

Reva was never able to capture sufficient market attention. Though the things could change once the company rolls out an entirely new Reva NXR in collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra. This car was officially showcased on Auto Expo 2012 and production has already commenced since August 2012.

Hyundai i10 (Diesel)

Hyundai is already testing the heavily camouflaged new generation i10 in India (Codename: BA). Even though there are very limited hints as far as the new design and features goes, but what’s sure is that Hyundai is working on a diesel mill for this popular small car in India.

Volkswagen Polo & Cross-Polo

Volkswagen is betting big on Polo. With spruced up 1.2 TSi and 1.5 engines, its sure going to be a driver’s delight. Plus, a DSG automatic transmission is likely as well. Gossips also indicate that a macho avatar of Polo, better known as ‘Cross-Polo, is also on the cards by End-2013.

Mercedes Benz A-Class

Mercedes recently released the B-Class in India amidst of all glitz and glamour which has received a fairly positive response. It’s not surprising to find that German carmaker is now targeting on an affordable model, the A-Class, It will be the Merc’s flagship car in India. Although the A-Class is a niche model but considering the snob value and a set of exhilarating engine options under the hood, coupled along with a lesser price tag, it is bound to attract a reasonable amount of attention from audience.

Volkswagen Beetle

The bug, as we all know it, is prepared for a complete makeover. Beetle will continue to amuse the onlookers with its cute looks, at the same time, it will please the occupants with much better space, equipments and performance. Thanks to the revised dimensions and new engine options which might include 1.4L Petrol and 2.0L Diesel.

Mahindra Verito (Sub-4 Meter)

Most of us are tired enough of hearing about Sub-4 Meter Verito launch, but hey wait. 2013 could finally put this anticipation to rest when a shorter version of Mahindra Verito (Logan) launches in the beginning of 2013. A sweet price tag (thanks to tax exemption) will further make this wait worth it.

Tata Manza Compact Sedan

You might have already lost the count of how many versions of ‘Indigo’ sedan currently exist in the market. Now, Tata is contemplating on the launch of another Indigo variant - The Manza CS. It will be a direct competitor of New Maruti Dzire and upcoming Mahindra Verito CS.

Honda Amaze

Honda Brio was a runaway success in India and it doesn’t seem that its sedan avatar would be any different. Honda is readying the Amaze sedan to fight head on with the currently established rivals in the entry level sedan segment (Basically Dzire and Manza). What’s more is that it will be the first ever Honda in India to come equipped along with a Diesel engine.

Tata Manza Facelift

The Manza offers almost everything that a typical mid-sized sedan buyer demands. Yet, not many are pleased as far as its styling goes. Tata Motors is working on a Manza makeover on the lines of the Manza Hybrid which was showcased on Auto Expo 2012. This move will definitely take the Manza’s charm a step ahead.

Chevrolet Sail Sedan

General Motors has already introduced the Sail UV-A hatchback in India. Now in order to replace the Aveo, the Sail sedan is going to debut very soon. The car will be loaded modern features and offer the engine option of 1.2 Petrol and 1.3 Diesel. Particularly Diesel is expected to be the ace card which was sorely missed in the outgoing Aveo.

Fiat Linea Facelift

In spite of being one of the most desirable sedans, Fiat Linea never clicked well amongst the Indian customers. Before it becomes a history, Fiat has decided to come up with the face lifted version which was unveiled just some time ago. It remains to be seen whether a facelift can evoke interest of the audience for Linea.

Ford Fiesta Facelift

Ford goofed up right in the beginning when it launched the Global Fiesta in India. Later, it rectified the pricing part but that really didn’t help much. This time Ford has the right opportunity to work on the Fiesta product with the launch of a face lifted version. The car will be offered with revised design elements, including new headlamps, tail lamps, and new bumper with a wide hexagonal grille.

Maruti Suzuki SX4 (Facelift)

You will agree that Maruti SX4 is now fairly long in the tooth and its maker has not really done much to spruce it up ever since the launch. Don’t fret. Maruti Suzuki is now all set to roll out the SX4 facelift in the Indian market. Though there won’t be any major changes under the hood, but the redesigned avatar will sure give SX4 a new lease of life.

Nissan Sunny and Renault Scala A/T

The major partnership brands, Renault and Nissan are going to launch the automatic (CVT) transmission for their sister products, Scala and Sunny respectively. Save for the gearbox, no other changes are expected on either of the models and both might release around the same time by Mid-2013.

New Honda Civic

Honda is working on a revised Civic from a while now. In fact, there were several rumors of Honda discontinuing the current Civic from India but that didn’t happen. However, considering the increasingly stiff competition in the luxury sedan segment, it would not be possible for Honda to sit quietly. Although there are still no official confirmation but New Honda Civic might debut in India in sometime.

  • Expected Launch: End-2013

  • Expected Starting Price: Rs.12.8 Lakh


New Skoda Octavia

Skoda has revived the Octavia brand with official debut of its all new model in a more sportier form. The car has a series of engine options available and comes equipped with new features and technologies. However, it is important to note that current Octavia is sold as a Laura in India. Skoda will either replace the existing Laura with New Octavia or again continue selling both the models together as it did earlier.

Skoda Superb (Facelift)

New Superb has proved to be a jackpot model for Skoda in premium luxury sedan segment. Skoda is all set to give it a ‘family design’ touch, making Superb the first Skoda in India to receive this treatment (which will be further followed by Laura / Octavia). The changes will be limited to exterior and possibly interiors only.

New Honda Accord

Due to the dwindling sales and lack of diesel engine, Honda is planning to bid adieu to Accord. But soon it could come back with a bang with bolder and charming Accord, which will offer refreshed looks. Only time will tell whether Accord can win its crown back or not but we sincerely hope that Honda thinks about adding a diesel option too in the Accord line up.

Mercedes Benz E-Class (Facelift)

And the days are not far when the enthusiasts could lay their hands behind the steering of S6 or even S7 and S8 if the rumors are to be believed.

Jaguar F Type

Chevrolet Enjoy

Chevrolet has buckled up to launch its first MPV in India in collaboration with Chinese carmaker, Wuling. The Enjoy is based on Wuling CN-100; it will be powered by a 1.4L Petrol and 1.3L Multi jet Diesel Engines. It’s going to be an apt alternative to Nissan Evalia but at a much more affordable price.

Ashok Leyland Stile

Stile is nothing but a Nissan Evalia with ‘Ashok Leyland’ logo. AL also showcased this model at Auto Expo 2012 and plans to roll it out soon in the market, targeting specially at fleet / taxi operators. Apparently, the car will look similar to Evalia but on the inside, it could have several cost cutting bits to keep the costs in check.

Hyundai Hexa-Space

Looking at the rising demand of MPVs in India, Hyundai has also pulled up its socks to jump into this segment with an entirely new model known as ‘Hexa Space’. This car was displayed on Auto Expo 2012 and received a positive response all around. No specific details have been revealed about the production version yet, but if Hyundai has already done its homework correctly, Hexa Space might turn into reality by the end of 2013.

Force MPV (Mercedes Viano Based)

Force Motors is in full force as far as passenger car segment is concerned and it’s not surprising that the company is totally benefitting from its pact with Daimler AG (Parent brand of Mercedes Benz). Thus, Force Motors is now eyeing to bring out a Mercedes Benz Viano based MPV with the OM611 engine licensed from Daimler AG. It’s speculative to comment on pricing at the moment but if priced sensibly, it could be a good substitute of Toyota Innova.

Sports Utility Vehicles

Force Gurkha

The news of Force reviving the legendary ‘Gurkha’ brand has excited many off-roaders. The ramped up model although will carry more or less the same DNA but under the hood, it is expected to come with OM611 engine. It is a 2.2L common rail turbo diesel unit which also does duty on Force One SUV and manages to produce a peak power of 140BHP and ample torque of 320NM.

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra is consistently working to make Thar a better product. Yet another evidence of same is the upcoming Thar which is rumored to be highly improved in comparison with existing model. This upgraded model is likely to offer more features, revamped interiors with stricter quality check up and probably a new engine as well.

Ford Ecosport

If there’s any car which is highly anticipated in 2013, then it is none other than Ford Ecosport. Ford made its international debut right here in Delhi on January 2012. Ever since, it ignited a strong curiosity amongst many prospective buyers in India. However, Ford is only revealing details bit by bit and has been successful enough to maintain certain confidentiality. Being less than 4 meter in length, there are strong possibilities of Ecosport being priced more competitively than Renault Duster. We only hope that Ford doesn’t goofs up this time.

Maruti Suzuki XA-Alpha

Maruti Suzuki is also working to develop a Compact SUV under four meter length, based on XA-Alpha concept car. Do note that there is no concrete information about the production model yet, but it is likely to offer 1.2 K-Series Petrol and 1.3L MJD once it is launched.

Nissan Duster

Nissan Duster. Sounds odd? Of course it does. If rumors are to be believed then Nissan is preparing its own version of ‘Renault Duster’ Compact SUV. Obviously it will not be called Duster under Nissan’s brand name but it will share many things alike or perhaps all? Well, maybe.

Tata Storme & Tata Aria Automatic



Tata Motors is very serious about Storme even though they delayed the launch initially. 2013 promises to be quite eventful for Tata with some important upgrades lined up, including Storme. Grapevine indicates that Storme will soon receive high-end audio setup from Harman Kardon and a pumped up engine to produce more Torque and BHP. More importantly, Tata Motors is ready to plonk an automatic gearbox in Storme (And in Aria) to make it an overall complete package.

SangYong Korando

After the launch of SsangYong Rexton, Mahindra is eyeing to bring the Korando SUV in India which will be positioned above Mahindra XUV500. It’s built on a monocoque chassis and powered by a 2.0L 273BHP turbo diesel engine, coupled along with a six speed transmission. The launch date information is still hazy but we expect the Korando to arrive either by Mid-2013 or near festive season.

Ford Endeavour

The blue oval has reserved some interesting models for 2013 and one of them is certainly next generation Endeavor which is based on Ford Ranger platform. According to sources, certain Ford dealers have already received training for New Endeavor back in 2012 but surprisingly Ford is hesitant to reveal any official information or pictures of upcoming Endeavour.

Hyundai Santa-Fe

Santa-Fe is the only fresh product from Hyundai which is missing the famous ‘fluidic styling’ of Hyundai family design. To bridge this gap, Hyundai is going to release the next generation Santa-Fe fluidic with jazzy design and loads more features such as Start-Stop button, sunroof, GPS, leather seats to name a few. Hyundai has already begun the survey and launch isn’t far.

BMW X1 Facelift

The updated X1 is just a cosmetic makeover and BMW’s attempt to make the X1’s presence felt in the market ever since the Audi Q3 has caught the limelight. The updates will be minor and limited to exterior touch up and interior enhancements to make the X1 feel richer.

Honda CR-V

The New Honda CR-V is an entirely revamped model which is expected to arrive in India in the beginning of 2013.While the car is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor but the downsides will continue to remain in form of expensive price tag (being a CBU product) and a missing diesel engine option.

Audi Q5 facelift

Considering Volvo’s pricing trend so far, it is likely to be sensibly priced as well.

Land Rover Freelander

Jeep Grand Cherokee

In a recent official press release, Fiat has confirmed its plans of bringing the well-known ‘Jeep’ brand in India. The first two cars introduced will be the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. The Jeeps will be sold separate from Fiat brand via independent Jeep dealerships while the spares and servicing will still occur under the Fiat umbrella.

BMW X6 Facelift

The chunky new X6 has little but noticeable differences. It bears a more sharp and muscular stance (thanks to revised kidney grille), fresh front bumper with repositioned foglamps and LED equipped taillamps. The car is expected to arrive either in Mid or End 2013

Mercedes G63 AMG

Mercedes’ first new car launch in India is the monstrous G63 AMG which will swap the existing G55 AMG from the market. It is powered by a 5.5L V8 Bi-Turbo producing 544BHP and 760M Torque mated with AMG Speed shift 7G Tronic transmission, which enables the G to catch speed of 100 Kmph in just 5.4 seconds.

Looks like a lot of action is going to happen in this year. Well i would like to wait for:
1. Skoda Octavia
2. Ford Endeavour
3. Jeep Grand Cherokee. (If this SUV is priced well and comes in diesel, it's gonna eat up the market for that particular segment. Amazing SUV, has everything, Look, comfort, power, space, interiors are nice as well). Overall a Kick Ass product

Ecosport
Jeep
New Civic and accord.
Personal opinion here: The new civic does not have that charm which the earlier civic had. But yes the 2013 accord is just amazing and far far better than the previous version.

Yes. RS6 is also India bound to stand against New M5. The cars I’m quite eager about are Tata Nano Upgrade, New Manza, Ford Ecosport, New Octavia and Volvo V40.
