Part 3 of 3 - Local sight-seeing at Munnar, Kerela

This is in continuation to my blog "Travelogue: Bangalore -> BR Hills -> Munnar -> KodaiKanal -> Bangalore". For earlier days coverage check the earlier posts.

Day 4

This was a cold morning, we woke up around 8 and then I wanted to wash my car. So I and my sweety daughter washed the car and I loved cleaning it. This was probably the first time I was cleaning my car myself. So we both gave the beast a good clean makeover and then went to freshen up. After this we got ready and moved on to the next set of sight-seeing places. Enjoy the pics.

On to the next stop

After a good breakfast we started for the sightseeing places. So the first places we went to was a Elephant farm which had some elephant rides for family, Even though I didn't wanted to go for it, I had to 'coz of my kids as they forced me to come along. So I had no option but to go . So we all sat on the elephant (poor guy) and our journey started. It was a helter skelter ride on its back and kids had lot of fun and I was busy taking pictures or getting it done. After the ride was over we got down said sorry to dear elephant for the torture and fed him with some fruits.

Then we moved on to the next stop that was a tree with lot of honeycomb webs .. maybe around 250++ See the picture

After this we moved on to the next spot and that the best attraction of the place - A Lake !! and folks believe me it was heavenly experience to see such a clean lake with a sprawling forest area around it. It was a great view and for a photographer like me, it was a great place to shoot more pictures and capture the moment. So we went onto the lake view point and clicked some pictures. Kids were a little hungry by that time so we decided to have some snacks like Maggie and eggs etc. I mean this was the best option we had so enjoyed the stuff.

Munnar is not as commercialised as some of the Hill Stations in India or even in South India, but you still see some shops etc selling miscellaneous stuff. Though this is necessary for the locals for earning their living, but if this gets too much thats when the whole place gets messy. Till now Munnar is not highly commercialised.

After about 30 mins or so we then moved on to the next view point of this lake and clicked more pictures followed by a boat ride. So we parked our vehicle there and bought the tickets for the motor boat which was I guess about 350 per person. So we paid, bought the tickets and queued up for our turn. The person there gave us the life jackets and helped us wear them as well. Once our turn came we then boarded the flight and zoooomed into the lake. I was a great fun ride as the boat driver was well trained, very nice guy and made our ride full of fun with lot of turns, quick twists and circles etc. So we enjoyed it thoroughly and within 15mins it was over. We wanted to do again but then the waiting for the next turn would have been about another hour so we decided not to and moved onto the next stop.

Amazing fun-filled thrilling boat ride

On the way there was some trees which were uprooted and getting cut by the forest department. Our guide told us that they cut a portion of the forest every 4~6 years which is a routine.

Our next stop was the echo-point as they say but as the place was full of water the echo effect was not very prominent. So we tried couple of times but in vain and returned back.

We clicked some pictures; had some more snacks (we were so hungry again and had some omlette's) and then moved onward to next stop which was the top point of the Munnar hills which is called as "Top Station".

So it took us about 30mins to reach the place and then another 15mins walk to the real point of interest. It was a bit of a trek and was a good one. So we did the trek and reached one of the points where you could see the mountains and the valleys but because of the clouds the view was blocked. So we waited for some time but the clouds did not clear and we had to return as is. But it was a good view anyway and the experience itself was good.

Then we came back to our car and came back to the hotel. As it was heavenly raining on the way back so we had to drive a little slow and took us maybe about 40~50mins to come back to the hotel. Once we reached the hotel we crashed on to the beds and relaxed for a while.

As we had some time in hand we decided to relax at the hotel and enjoy the evening. So we stayed there and ordered some snacks for ourselves. We sat in the back lawn/garden and had tea/coffee with snacks and enjoyed the evening. at around 8pm, kids started feeling hungry and then we had to go for dinner. So we went for the dinner at a nearby restaurant, had dinner and came back to the hotel and crashed into the bed for a good night sleep.

Yeah Mukesh, it takes a lot of time to process the pictures and write this up. I was busy in closing the qtr last few weeks so could'nt complete this when started. Now I should be able to finish this in a day or so and then I have 2 more trip travelogues pending for Shirdi and Goa as well :)

So stay tuned ..

Weather and valleys in Munnar were Amazing and very relaxing !! It is one of the most beautiful places I have visited till now - atleast in India.

I had been to Munar and Kodai. Munar is a beautiful place.

I like your photos. Which camera & lens do you use?
Yeah. Munnar was beautiful and well maintained place with excellent local people who have a great attitude towards tourist unlike some of the other tourist places in India. It was a great trip and I will return to Munnar very soon.

I use a Nikon D90 with couple of lense options. The pictures in this blog were mostly captured by 18-105mm.

This is in continuation of my post - A trip to the Heavenly Hills of Munnar". To read the earlier coverage, please check the previous posts
Munnar -> KodaiKanal :: Day 6

We started our journey towards our next stop "KodaiKanal" which was around 125kms from the place we were staying. So we got behind the wheels and zoomed towards Kodai thorough the ghats and twisting roads of Munnar.

The route from Munnar to KodaiKanal was very beautiful and scenic. Our plan was to zoom to KodaiKanal as soon as possible, but as there we lots of picture taking opportunities.. which I couldn't avoid .. it delayed the whole trip. But capturing these views was an experience I cannot describe !! Enjoy !!
