Even if Innova's sales is affected, it will be only by a small margin. Because Innova will be more spacious and comfortable and Avanza is a smaller vehicle. And i read that the third is not suited for adults for long drives and the even the boot is smaller. But Xylo will be affected badly.

Toyota Plans to Bring Avanza as Ertiga's Rival

I think T- Avanza maybe a better bet than Ertiga. If the launch it by Oct-Nov 12, expect Ertiga waiting period to reduce by atleast 50% [lol].
Some pics of Avanza -

Maruti brings Ertiga to compete with Innova. Now Toyota gets Avanza to compete with Ertiga. Interesting [;)]

Third picture is a right hand drive and fourth a left hand drive ? Anyways, it is looking spacious but interiors are plain Innova type. Why cannot they make it more lively they either have Innova (*dead interiors) or Etios (*bad interiors).

* 100% personal opinion. [:)]

Shrink the Innova, shrink its engine and all and hence shrink the price. What they will get:-
  • Avanza.
  • Low cost 'van'.
  • Innova's image will automatically be associated with the car with people considering it 'mini' Innova. This will eat up Innova's sales too.
  • Better performance(maybe).
  • They already have a 1.4 D-4D VGT engine for the job.

But question is:Will they really make it 'cheap'?'CHEAP' feeling like Etios and Liva...[frustration]

The nomenclature "cheaper" and "Toyota" does not fit in once sentence.

a) If they price it cheaper, Xylo, BR-v, Ertiga will eat their sales (due to lower spare cost & TCO)

b) If they price is way above averages, people will Buy it foolishly with hard earned money and also black money. And people will also Praise the drab, Dated interiors as its visible in pics. frankly, that Interior is 10 years older than market trend. I mean come on! Look at those knobs, Single Din "cassette Player" and AC dials.

I think it will launched as Innova replacement for the fleet operators, if at all it gets launched, since innova has moved segment higher.

Updated Toyota Avanza leaked ahead of official unveil

This latest update brings in a bolder look, especially when viewed from the front. The new Avanza features a split headlamp setup, similar to the one seen on the much larger and more expensive Toyota Alphard luxury MPV. It also gets an all-new grille and bumper design that is sharper and more in-line with the newer Toyota models. At the back, the tailgate gets minor cosmetic tweaks with new extended tail-lamps and vertical styling cues on the bumper making the model look wider.

Toyota Alphard Luxury MPV – All You Need To Know

Toyota-Alphard-India-696x393.jpg

Capitalising on the success story of the Innova Crysta through its two generations, Toyota Kirloskar Motor may consider launching the Alphard MPV in the near future. Positioned way above the Innova Crysta in its international lineup, the Alphard is sold in select markets that appeal for sophisticated luxury-based MPVs.
