Vice Chairman & Whole-time Director – Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mr. Shekar Viswanathan's Official Statement on RBI's Hike on Interest Rates

The RBI’s action in increasing the interest rate by 0.25% appears to be an attempt to balance the fiscal necessity with the mid-long term goals of containing inflation. While the RBI appears to have bitten the bullet by increasing the repo rate by 0.25% after a pause of over 4 years since the previous occasion, it also appears to be banking on the increase in liquidity from the quick resolution of cases under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. From an automobile industry perspective, not only will the increase in rates impact the cost of funds for manufacturers, but also the customers who are seeking loans from banks to purchase cars. This is in addition to the burden of substantial increase in fuel costs due to the rising cost of imported oil. But we believe the Government knows the facts on the ground and will take steps as appropriate.”

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 14424 units in the month of July 2018

Registers bimonthly sales growth of 36% in June –July 2018 as compared to June-July 2017. Considering the Pre & Post GST Month of June-July 2017 and the GST effects.

Toyota offers environment friendly concept of ‘ECO Car Wash’ service to customers

Eco-carwash.jpg

N Raja, Deputy Managing Director - Toyota.jpg

[Toyota’s challenge to achieve ZERO water consumption in its operations, introducing eco car wash at Toyota dealerships in India]

- Toyota Kirloskar Motor was the first in the industry to introduce eco-car wash in the year 2014

- This eco technology helps to save 95% of water used over traditional car washing

- An effort to save precious ground water upto 253 million litres each year, across 100 plus Toyota dealerships in India

- Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been the forerunners of eco drives through sustainable solutions to support conservation of natural resources over the years – raw water consumption for plant operations at Toyota Kirloskar Motor is just 7.6%

- Aims to achieve surplus water at plant through rain water harvesting and waste water recycling, focuses to cater to water requirements of local community with such surplus water in & around plant facility at Bidadi region

Bangalore, 10th Aug 2018 – In line with its endeavor to create ever better sustainable society, Toyota Kirloskar Motor further drives an environment friendly car cleaning solution, thus reducing the water consumed for washing cars through their new Eco Car Wash service. This eco initiative essentially supports to maximize the reduction of water utilization to an extent of 95% for every single car cleaned at Toyota’s service outlets.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, was the first in the industry to introduce Eco Car Wash in the year 2014, have always been the forerunners of eco awareness and sustainable solutions towards conservation of natural resources. Toyota has been striving relentlessly to conserve the scarce water resource by introducing the eco car wash across its dealership over the years.

Till date, 100 plus dealerships have adopted this eco concept of car wash to offer best-in-town vehicle servicing experience to its customers in the region. Toyota has developed video manuals and standard operating procedures to train the technicians on this unique car wash technique, offering quality service while achieving 100% customer satisfaction.

Globally, Toyota takes inspiration from the ‘Toyota Earth Charter’, and has formulated environment friendly policies for its business operations, which have been followed since 1992. The company remains committed on the vision of greener tomorrow and have announced long term eco-initiatives towards the society and environment through their Global Environment Challenge 2050 which is in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Out of the total 17 challenges, 12 are directly linked to the six environmental challenges declared by Toyota. Toyota India is declared as the ‘Model Plant’ leading two of Toyota’s Environmental Challenges 2050, in the Asia Pacific region [out of 6 global environmental challenges], representing Zero CO2 emission plant and minimum water consumption.

Under the collaborative approach, TKM has also designed unique initiatives to raise awareness among its stakeholders and inspires them to be future change agents. With this waterless car wash at dealerships, Toyota contributes to around 253 million litres of water savings annually, while ensuring 100% cleanliness of the cars. ECO wash is a unique concept which gives a fine finish with zero water usage, by cleaning the vehicle with eco-friendly products without affecting the environment and preserving the most valuable natural resource - Water.

The ECO wash products used at Toyota dealerships are ready to use water-based formulation designed to effectively clean dirt & grime from vehicle painted surface without damaging the surface. Easy to use, dry wash is a water-based product. This new eco product delivers to the customers the perfectly cleaned cars at no extra cost and no extra time over the traditional water wash.

Commenting on the eco-concept service at dealerships, Mr. N Raja, Deputy Managing Director – Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said,” At TKM, eco initiatives have always been the top priority. In progression with India’s ‘National Water Mission’, we have been steadily implementing desirable measures towards conservation of water, taking the local operational needs into account. We, at Toyota, have adopted varied methodologies to effectively minimize the water consumption and usage of recycled water in our manufacturing operations, while ensuring lower impact on ground water levels.

In addition to reduction in water consumption, this eco method of car washing at our service outlets helps to avoid possible contamination of soil channels that occurs with the use of alkaline solutions in shampoos under conventional car wash.

The ECO wash method of cleaning cars consumes just about 5% of the water as compared to traditional car wash. An accumulative benefit that we see from this key change will, we hope, make a huge impact on the water conservation endeavors in the region we operate in. Moreover, through this eco initiative, we widely promote and develop eco conscious minds amongst our customers, who now opt for such eco car wash over the traditional washing of vehicles while enjoying our quality service with 100% cleanliness.”

Going forward, TKM plans to expand the eco car wash to its other service dealerships, as a part of their green initiative with a view to outreach larger number of customers availing this eco service and contribute to enhanced water savings. On the other side, customers are also excited to be a part of this new initiative, and have been appreciative of this excellent eco based car service offerings of Toyota with even better cleanliness of their cars.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has undertaken several unique environment friendly initiatives to preserve the Mother Nature. Many eco-initiatives are being implemented in the manufacturing operations to reduce water consumption to almost ZERO by adopting sustainable methodologies. On fresh water consumption, 92.8% of TKM’s water demand for manufacturing is met by rainwater harvesting and recycled water. The purchased fresh water consumption in overall manufacturing is only @ 7.6%.

By 2025, TKM aims to be SURPLUS on water with ZERO fresh water consumption at plant, while also focusing to cater to the local community water requirements with such surplus water generation through rain water harvesting & other water conservation methodology adopted at our manufacturing facility.

Apart from the above plant initiative, TKM has also undertaken community based eco initiative through rejuvenation of the Lingegowdanakere Lake spread across 3.5 acres [Ramnagara District, Karnataka] to enhance ground water levels, catering to water requirements of the local community in Bidadi region during water scarcity period owing to low rains, sustain the rare bird species from extinction in the region & contribute to increase the agricultural produce of the region.

New Toyota CHR spied in India – Testing hybrid tech for future Maruti cars?

Toyota C-HR has been spied testing in India once again. The last car Toyota India launched, was the Yaris – a few months earlier, and CH-R could very well be on its way, though not right away.

Toyota C-HR hybrid crossover SUV is built on TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. All-new Toyota Corolla with hybrid powertrain, also based on TNGA platform will be launched India before C-HR. The test mule could in fact be testing components rather than the run being a launch prep.

toyota-chr-spied-india-suv.jpg

With Toyota and Suzuki working on joint projects for tech development, new car development, and market development, it’s clear Toyota’s focus lies elsewhere. Only last week, Maruti Suzuki WagonR Ev was showcased at MOVE Summit 2018.

Maruti announced that the company is already testing 50 such vehicles in India. The cities where these vehicles are being tested is Bangalore and Mumbai. It is very much possible that the CHR we see in the image above, is a test mule to test future hybrid technology for Maruti and Toyota cars.

toyota-chr-premium-suv-6.jpg

Toyota already sells Camry Hybrid and Prius Hybrid in India, which though limited is miles ahead in India. Toyota C-HR hybrid for India gets power from a 1.8-litre petrol engine and an electric motor for a combined output of 122hp.

An all-electric Toyota C-HR crossover was showcased at Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. Toyota is committed to delivering 10 electric cars in China by 2020. C-HR EV is part of the endeavour.

With electric vehicles and hybrids enjoying a rather small market share in India, most manufacturers are taking their time to launch such vehicles as the government lays out blueprints to encourage such vehicle sales.

Toyota further expands its distinctive skill initiative with a larger mission to support “Skill India”, under Toyota Technical Education Program [TTEP]

[Under TTEP - Launch of Body & Paint Repair skill training set-up at Samarth Group of Institutions – Belhe, Pune]

Toyota further expands its tie-up with Industrial Training Institutes to execute distinctive skill training model in support of “Skill India Mission” of the nation

Training capsule covers Toyota’s advanced technical skill-ups, under Automotive Repair

This program constitutes on-the-job training through Toyota Dealerships to enhance the skill sets, thus contributing to nation’s employability ratio

Till date more than 7,900 students have been trained under this program, of which 62% have been recruited by Toyota Dealerships across the country

Pune, 6th October 2018: Toyota Kirloskar Motor [TKM] today announced its second institutional tie-up in Pune and third in the state of Maharashtra with the launch of its unique training model Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) under Body & Paint Repair category at the Samarth Group of Institutions in Pune. Aimed at generating talented and technically skilled professionals for the automobile industry in Pune, the first TTEP program in the state was established in 2006 in collaboration with St. Joseph's Industrial Training Institute, Kurla [Mumbai].

This distinctive initiative by Toyota represents the incessant efforts taken by the company to bridge the skill gap that exists by developing trained personnel to meet the ever-increasing demand of the emerging industry for skilled resources. This association is aimed at providing a platform to Samarth Group of Institutions to train and equip their students with the best knowledge to thrive and succeed in the industry with right skill sets towards achieving employability status.

The event held at Samarth Group of Institutions in Belhe - Pune was graced by Mr. Vasantrao Gangaram Shelake – Chairman, Mr. Dnyaneshwar Gangaram Shelake - Vice President, Mr. Vivek Vasantrao Shelake – Secretary, and Mr. Vallabh Vasantrao Shelake - Trustee, Samarth Group of Institutions in the presence of the representative from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mr. Vedaparakash S. Tiwari - General Manager.
The Body & Paint repair, a 1-year syllabus has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Training and Technical Education, Government of NCT Delhi. The syllabus imparts training on basic body and paint repair skills in addition to dealer specific requirements, to students - thereby improving their knowledge of repair techniques and facilitating the adoption of latest technology in Body & Paint. At present, Body & Paint technicians have limited knowledge base and hands-on-experience under repair operations and techniques, forcing dealers to recruit manpower from local garages. Toyota in association with its dealer partners will provide all necessary support to the institute such as training consumables, visiting faculty, training material, tools, equipment etc.

Commenting on the new partnership, Mr. Vallabh Shelake, Trustee - Samarth Group of Institutions said, “It is an honor to be associated with Toyota through this unique program - TTEP. Our institution's mission is to give quality education and we see this partnership as a great opportunity to train students to become highly skilled potential employees. Toyota Technical Education Program is an interactive curriculum and we are confident that this platform will provide the desired opportunity for the aspiring students of our institution to excel and attain a successful career opportunity”.

Commenting on the need for skilling India, Mr. N Raja, Deputy Managing Director - Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “The automobile repair industry is evolving and need to improve in professional training for repair and diagnostics of vehicles to meet the evolving needs of the market. There is a growing need to enhance the quality and build relevance into the current skill development programs. As per the figures released by the National Sample Survey, out of the 470 million people who are in the working age group, only close to 10% receive any kind of training or access to skilled employment opportunities*.

Through this Toyota Technical Training Program, we aim to scale-up the students’ skill levels with the required theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to confidently function in a seamless manner and effectively contribute to succeed in their designated tasks. Our focus is not only to support rising demand for skilled talent, but to match the skills programs with the future industry requirements."

With the continued emergence of new technologies and new business needs, Toyota recognizes that the skills required to succeed tomorrow are not the same as the skills required to succeed today. It now seeks to anticipate the benchmarks of the future and plan the skill development proactively. Toyota’s skill program focuses to hone one’s skill sets, not merely to match the current industry requirements, but to challenge future opportunities with right balance of education [knowledge], experience [on-the-job] and exposure [learning new advanced techniques towards building talent],” he added.

The main objective of TTEP training module [launched in the year 2006] is to enhance and augment the technical abilities and employability of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students in the age group of 16 to 18 years. In its first year, the program was implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hubli. The program was subsequently introduced nation-wide covering Bengaluru, Mysuru, Lalru, Pune, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Indore, Vizag, Ludhiana, Cuttack, Haldwani, Nalbari, Gurgaon, Satara, Paramakudi, Chalakudy, Mangaluru, Calicut & Nashik.

· This application is currently developed for recently launched – “Toyota Yaris” (It will be extended to other Toyota Products shortly)

· This App is connected to the vehicle through an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) Device to make it interactive with the vehicle driving pattern.

· It easily connects to the car infotainment system via Bluetooth to play the audio information.

· It is customized based on regional languages (Currently in English & Hindi; will be extended to other languages shortly)

· Currently this app is available at select Dealerships in key cities [Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai] and will be subsequently launched in all cities.

Delhi, 12 October 2018: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the launch of a Test Drive Application to standardize the Test Drive Process across Toyota dealerships in India. This is the first of its kind initiative in the industry which explains the key product features while the customers go for their test drive, enhancing their overall driving experience.

Toyota, being a front runner in innovation and technology and in a bid to provide their customers with newer and better experiences has launched this application to build Product Conviction with effective Test Drive Experience. The unique aspect of this application is that it is multi-lingual, thus explaining the features in multiple languages [currently, Hindi & English]. This Application is connected to the vehicle through an OBD (On Board Diagnostic Device) to make it interactive with the vehicle driving pattern. Thus the features are automatically triggered based on the driving response.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Mr. N. Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd said, “We at Toyota continuously strive to understand evolving customer needs, to offer newer and better driving experience beyond traditional vehicle transport. Keeping in mind changing customer lifestyle, we have introduced this application to further streamline the test drive experience at dealerships and strengthen the customer connection to the brand – converting one-time product sales into long-term service-oriented relationship. With booming digitization, we entered this space through Paperless Customer Information Capturing in the Pre-Sales Area and Toyota Connect in the Post Sales Area. We are expanding our horizon introducing the First in Industry Unique Digitalized Test Drive Application aiming to standardize the product explanation during the Test drive and make the experience more exciting. The interactive feature lends a ‘human touch’ to this application, thus making it unique.

The initial feedback from customers in the pilot phase has been very encouraging for us. Test Drive is a critical part of making an informed purchase decision. We believe this informative experience during the test drive will increase the awareness about functions and features of the car and transform the vehicle sales experience.”
He added.

This application is an iOS based state-of-the-art technology, designed for iPad Devices. The application is installed in iPad and configured with OBD i.e. “On-Board Diagnostics” device which is fitted to the car and paired with the Car’s Audio System.

Once the engine is started, the iPad Application senses engine performance parameter triggered by the OBD device and based on the customer driving response, respective performance and features will trigger and initiate explanation of the characteristics from the ipad application. The voiceover explanation of the car highlights through the car’s audio system ensures customer Test Drive experience is unique, uniform and universal.
