Mathew is right, dealers bump up pressure as they need to keep stocks over a period, check the tyre pressure. bring it to 29psi.

Thanks Mathew and Iron Rock. Today brought it down from 33PSI to 30PSI. Drove 12Kms and still its very bad back.. there must be some serious problem with fortuner or my self :-). I will show the suspension of this vehicle to Toyota dealer.

I guess then you are referring to the Fortuner's standard ride quality then!
I doubt the Toyota dealer will be able to do anything about it.

Very surprising, since I know many who have moved to larger SUVs from sedans & hatches to get relief from back problems as, SUVs sit higher and getting in & out is much easier. Also the heavy duty suspension of SUVs help absorb shocks better than sedans & Hatches.

One suggestion, try getting a TD of another 'relatively new' Fortuner and see if there is a difference in ride comfort quality. Given it is a brand new top of the line TOYOTA Fortuner, doubt if dealer can do too much about suspension. Otherwise try not driving it for a few days until backache disappears and then try driving again, for whatever it is worth.

I have heard people discuss of a 'bumpy ride' in a Fortuner compared to INNOVA or XUV, but nothing more. But then the 'bumpy ride' maybe by design from TOYOTA.

No worry vijayvm. Now bring the pressure to 29psi, and try for 50kms. Sure you will feel the difference. Try on un-even roads, and smooth roads. Service adviser of Toyota will help you.

Hi subrata, what is your take on this?

Firstly, cordial congratulations on the new vehicle.

Secondly, though backache occurred after Fortuner drive, yetit will be better you go for a orthopedic consultation & if necessary spine x-rays. Many times it might be dormant problem is aggravated & so felt by the bumpy ride.

Agree with Dhoom9 - its best you do it asap and not ignore health wise.

But that apart can you take a similar test drive in a Duster, Storme or Pajero Sport and let us know if you feel the comfort factor or pain likewise compared to own vehicle.

Thanks Iron Rock

1. Test drove the Pajero sport, the ride comfort was far better compared to my current Fortuner.
2. Also buying fortuner taking me to hospital for medical checkup is the biggest benefit i have received now [;)]

Congragulations Vijay for your new ride... As suggested by other friends please take a break from driving and take a test ride after few days. I also feel your body will slowly adjust to this vehicle. Also visit a specialist and DO NOT ignore the pain.

I have observed that the seats are being designed stiffer in newer cars. Similar is the case with Tata Safari Storme when compared to the Safari Dicor. The seats are stiffer in the Storme.

Re: Toyota Fortuner 4WD MT (2014) Ownership Review

Last week end took the vehicle for 500kms long drive including highways and reasonably good 2 way roads. Cautiously attempted to drive about 80kms through out the trip.

An interesting observation related to fuel efficiency Half tank of Fortuner has resulted mind boggling 550+ KMs. Unbelievable !! FE shown in MID shot up from 11.2KMPL to 13KMs in this drive..

Also completed 1000KMs, and will send the vehicle for 1st service tomorrow morning.

Back to Bangalore now, all the FE savings getting evaporated quickly in 2 days while driving thru bumper to bumper traffic !!

Rear passenger comfort is better in Pajero Sport.
Just compare the passenger comfort with Innova. Innova is better in this case. People who changed the shock absorber to Ironman or Red Rooster are reporting innova like performance. My Toyota SA promised a test drive on Red Rooster shock absorber fitted Fortuner.

How do you feel the Horn? Is it sufficient or need any change?

Horn is not good in Fortuner for 2 reasons
1. Your ability to honk, if needed is difficult due to the surface area is much smaller for your to identify and honk. [anger]

2. Also the horn sound is very feable and inadequate.. Its like 20 year old adult shout like 2 year baby (probably can should louder)
I wonder why Toyota didn't pass at least Innova horn here...

3. While we are on this topic our Sound & alarm,s
(a) Remote lock/unlock doesn't create a audio alarm; as well as
(b) while reversing there is no Audio alarms is fixed..

for item #3, did any one found solution ? Wanted to check today with Toyota service advisor whether they would fix additional horn.

4. JACK : Jack given along with Innova/Fortuner is not good for people to remove the spare wheel easily. My recommendation to buy Qualis Jack which is about Rs. 200 with long handle.
- I had purchased this earlier with Innova, and i intend to buy this today as part of Fortuners' 1st service

I upgraded the horn to Roots Megasonc Horn.
Still I am not happy with the sound. It is like half lorry sound. Innova sound is more apt but Toyota is not providing that.

The same jack - long handle is available at Toyota stores. It has to be kept under rear seat. Removing the spare wheel is not that easy. Need some experience to slot the handle to spare wheel hook. by default the hook is at 12 clock position.

Service update : 1st service

Dealer : Nandi Toyota Bommanahalli

1. 1st service completed in 22days (27th Feb to 20th March)
2. Charges : Rs. 347
- Consummable Rs 78 (Fluid wash windshield), and
- Qualis Rod Jack handle Rs 269 [Must for removing the spare, as Toyota provided handles are not adequate for inexperienced people like me]
3. Pending from Toyota, and they would replace
- Low quality Beading around the door glasses, which are deformed all over the place.
- I have felt Toyota dealers are good[clap], as Toyota puts more pressure on them to perform, but Toyota company is not good in terms of reviewing the customer concerns based on my experience[cry]

This is actually true for any Company in India, be it TOYOTA or any other auto manufacture or for that matter even non auto Companies like SAMSUNG, LG (based on customer complaints that we read in newspapers & forums) etc.
One reason could be that laws in our country are not that stringent (consumer centric) like in the US or certain western European countries. In these countries customer complaints & feedback are given more 'genuine' attention. It is certainly changing for the better in India, but still we have a long way to go.
