Triumph Motorcycles has issued a recall for about 3,700 units in USA with regards to a potential front brake issue on these motorcycles. The models affected by the recall are the entire Tiger 1200 range (2018-2020), Speed Triple S (2018-2020), Speed Triple RS (2018-2020) and the Street Triple RS (2018-2020). All the motorcycles in question run Brembo brakes up front. The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) detected a potential manufacturing defect for the brakes on these models. The brakes might have a higher concentration of Nickel. This results in more salt and water absorption on the back plate. And excess salt and water absorption could lead the brake pads to corrode at a higher rate than normal, especially in winter and rainy conditions. There is a risk of the brake pad friction material coming off the backing plate.

Brembo Issues Global Recall For Certain Brake Pads

brembo-brakes-recall_827x510_81514791703.jpg

Italian brake original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Brembo has issued a global recall related to OEM motorcycle brake pads fitted to a number of different bikes, from different makes and models. The recall relates to the BRM10B compound and the amount of nickel used in the brake pad's construction. The amount of nickel in the pads can potentially lead to the compound becoming porous, allowing moisture and humidity to affect the performance of the pads. The build up of moisture can cause corrosion, which in some cases can cause the friction material to detach from the brake mounting plate, causing serious brake failure.

Ducati 1299 Superleggera Recalled In The US

The exclusive Ducati 1299 Superleggera, which was produced in limited units, has been recalled in the US. According to recall information posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall pertains to all 97 bikes that were sold in the US. The recall seems to have been issued, as a result of an issue with the brake pads, which may see the brake pad's friction material detaching from the brake pad's back plate. This can happen specifically, but not exclusively, for motorcycles that have been operated in corrosive environments.

The motorcycles that fall under this recall drive include the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 and Himalayan, which are three of its latest motorcycles. The voluntarily recall has been issued after the company found out a brake calliper corrosion-related issue in models sold in these countries (Europe and to South Korea).

On further investigating the issue, it came to light that the brake calliper is prone to corrosion on being subjected to sustained, long term exposure to usage on roads that have been treated with a certain combination of salts to prevent the formation of ice during the winter season.

This corrosion is known to damage the brake calliper piston bore and assemblies, which, in turn, leads to unusual braking sound, higher brake drag and even reduced braking efficiency. Also, it is worth a mention here that even though the issue is known to have affected only a few motorcycles, the company prefers replacing the part as a proactive, safety-related service action.

Honda has announced a recall for the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade in select markets of Europe for a potential con-rod issue. The notice said that 300 motorcycles have been recalled and the recall process is precautionary. The connecting rods in the affected motorcycles could have a metallurgical defect, which originated at the company's connecting rod supplier's facility. The supplier may have manufactured a faulty batch of con-rods. Honda said that so far, no motorcycle among the affected units has had a breakdown. The deliveries of the motorcycle will need to be stopped temporarily as well. As of now, the recall pertains to motorcycles sold only in Europe.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 And Vitpilen 701 Recalled Globally

Husqvarna has issued a global recall for its Svartpilen 701 and Vitpilen 701 motorcycles over a potential fuel leakage problem. All Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 models manufactured in 2019 and 2020 have been recalled along with all Vitpilen 701 motorcycles manufactured between 2018 and 2020. The total number of models affected isn't known yet. In a statement, Husqvarna said that the fuel in the motorcycle may leak from the area where the fuel level sensor is placed or the fuel pump mounting area.

The problem is caused by 'unevenness in the area of the sealing surface between the tank and the fuel pump as well as the tank and the fuel level sensor'. The company will be contacting the owners of affected motorcycles via letters and fix an appointment with the nearest Husqvarna dealership. All affected motorcycles will get a new fuel tank with thicker walls and a new sealing system. The inspection and replacement will be done free of cost for all customers.

Triumph Tiger 900 Recalled In USA Over Faulty Reflex Reflectors

Triumph Motorcycles America has issued a recall for 603 units of the Triumph Tiger 900. The cause of recall is a potentially faulty reflex reflector. The National Highway Transport Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published documents which say that only two per cent of the 603 recalled vehicles could have a faulty rear reflex reflector, which could possibly detach from the motorcycle due to wrong size of spigots. While it may not present immediate danger to the rider, but if the reflex reflector is missing then it doesn't meet USA's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

BMW Recalls Over 16,000 Motorcycles In The US

bmw-r-1200-gs_827x510_51499344871.jpg

BMW Motorrad has issued a recall for motorcycles manufactured between 2005-2012 in the US over a fuel pump issue. The fuel pump issue affects BMW R 1200 GS and other non-GS models, according to a recall issued by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall states that "motorcycles involved previously received a support ring repair under a 2014 recall number 13V-617, which also dealt with a potential leak at the fuel pump. Vehicles that received the earlier recall remedy, which did not have a fuel pump replacement at a later date, may have a fuel pump flange that cracks and possibly leaks over time."
