Made-in-India Tata Hexa is now ‘official SUV’ for Bangladesh Army

tata-hexa-bangladesh-army-featured-1.jpg

Tata Motors has got a new contract from one of our neighbouring country Bangladesh, to supply Hexa SUV to be used as their official Army vehicle. What this means is, a made-in-India vehicle is now the official SUV of the Bangladesh army.

Hexa-Bangladesh-Army-1.jpg

Tata Motors had to conduct vigorous testing on the Hexa for months before getting an approval from the Bangladesh Army. Tata received an order for 200 Hexa from the Bangladesh Army once Hexa fulfilled the conditions for the Army. This is the statement issued by the manufacturer,

This order has been won against the other competitive brand SUVs and this has been the first key order from the Bangladesh Army. The superior performance of the Tata Hexa, better comfort features and widely available service and spares in Bangladesh made it the most preferred brand for the army

Hexa-Bangladesh-Army-2.jpg

The Military will be getting the 4×4 version which only comes with a manual gearbox. The Hexa is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The engine generates a maximum of 154 Bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The same engine and gearbox will be made available to the Bangladesh Army as well.

Tata Motors’ JV partner in China, Chery to launch eQ5 electric SUV

chery-eq5-electric-suv-china-tata-launch-8.jpg

Chery, Tata Motors’ joint venture partner which manufactures Jaguar Land Rover products for the Chinese market, is all set to introduce its first fully electric SUV, the eQ5, in its home. The compact electric crossover is based on Chery’s all-new aluminium-intensive lightweight platform which will spawn a range of EVs in the near future.

chery-eq5-electric-suv-china-tata-launch-6.jpg

The Chery eQ5 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) which is available in two states of tune – 163 hp and 177 hp. The motor is supported by a lithium-ion battery pack which claimed to deliver a range of 510 km under NEDC. The battery is claimed to have an impressive energy density of 160.1 Wh/kg.

chery-eq5-electric-suv-china-tata-launch-5.jpg

The crossover’s monocoque is composed of 93% of aluminium-magnesium alloy which results in 40% weight reduction compared to traditional steel frames. The frame weights a paltry 95 kg. Thanks to this feature, the eQ5 weighs 1,760 kg which is impressive given the size of its battery pack.

The Chery eQ5 sports a modern dual-tone interior with flat-bottomed steering wheel, fully digital color instrument console and of course, a touchscreen infotainment system. Salient features include AI voice recognition, air purification system, 5G connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) updates and a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features.

Tata needs to come clear on the Hexa in India. What I understand is that the AWD Safari version of the Hexa is a certainty.

But will they continue with the RWD version also with BSVI engine. Reason they might bring on the RWD is as the 2.2 ltr varicor engine which they have promised for the Safari version is not going to be manufactured for this model only. Seems it does not make commercial justification. Reason they might not bring it on is because if they bring out the RWD Hexa then it will directly rival the Gravitas and can cannibalise its own product.

Tata Motors Purchases 50% Share Of Jayem Automotives In JTSV Joint Venture

Tata Motors today announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase the 50 per cent shareholding of Jayem Automotives in JT Special Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (JTSV). Further to this announcement, JTSV will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, following the completion of the procedural requirements. This does mean that cars under the JTP brand will no longer be sold in India.

JTSV was formed in 2017 as a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors Ltd. and Jayem Automotives to develop high performance versions of the company's passenger cars under the 'JTP' brand. The company then launched the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP in 2018. Both the Tiago and Tigor JTP get cosmetic updates to make it look a bit more sporty and yes the performance too had been uprated in both cars. We told you in our review that the Tiago JTP, that it is a hot hatch to buy in the country and yes, the most affordable one at that. However, the passenger car industry witnessed a challenging FY19-20, exacerbated with mandatory change in regulations and the current COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted the demand in this niche category of vehicles.

Tata Records 43% Sales Increase In July 2020; Finishes Third

tata-motors-cars-1-4.jpg

Tata Motors endured an encouraging outing last month as 15,000 units were sold domestically. When compared to the same period in 2019, the homegrown manufacturer posted 4,515 units more and it led to a Year-on-Year sales increase of 43 per cent. Tata registered the second highest volume increase in July 2020 and finished third in the overall manufacturers’ table behind Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.

tata-motors-cars-1-9-1068x641.jpg
The brand’s market share also increased to 7.6 per cent as compared to 5.3 per cent in July 2019. The Month-on-Month sales growth stood at a highly respectable 31 per cent as well. Tata begun the year of 2020 with a slew of new launches as the facelifted Tiago, Tigor and Nexon came to the fore while the all-new Altroz entered the B2 hatchback segment with plenty of promises.

Additionally, Tata also introduced the electrified Nexon and MY2020 Harrier with updates. The company’s intention to have a refreshed lineup in short intervals does appear to be paying dividends. Tata ended up third ahead of Mahindra, Kia, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Ford, MG and Volkswagen. Compared to its nearest finisher M&M, Tata garnered 4,000 more units.

tata-4999-tiago-2.jpg

The automotive industry has made a steady progress in July 2020 as 1,97,523 units were recorded with just 1 per cent volume de-growth and compared to the previous month of June, the volumes catapulted by a massive 69 per cent. With the festive season just around the corner, the passenger car sales will more likely increase further.

Tata has a host of new products up its sleeve as the three-row Harrier dubbed the Gravitas is expected to go on sale around November. Originally intended to be introduced this month, the health crisis has pushed its launch back while the second product based on the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform could also arrive in the near future.

It is nothing but the production version of the HBX/H2X concept showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and it will go up against Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Renault Kwid. The Gravitas will take on MH Hector Plus, upcoming seven-seater Hyundai Creta and next-gen Mahindra XUV500 bound for 2021.

With just 5 models, TATA has pulled out a rabbit out of the hat!
With good reviews from buyers on YouTube and social media, the brand is getting a new traction where young and first time buyers hugging their cars, I seems TATA has got a new lease of life. Nationality seems to be playing some part.

With more models like HBX, GRAVITAS, et al., soon join the line up, we will be watching more numbers to the brand.

Kudos to the brand TATA!

Coronavirus Pandemic: Tata Motors Launches Several Hygiene Accessories

Tata Motors has rolled out an array of health and hygiene accessories for its customers. These will be offered to all car owners across its outlets in the country. According to the company, the accessories have been designed to provide car owners with an additional level of safety for their new & existing Tata cars. The accessories have been decided upon, given the coronavirus pandemic in the country and hence include a air purifier, an air filer and a sanitization kit.

The Air-o-Pure 95 air purifier, as Tata calls it, comes equipped with an Active Carbon HEPA filter and UV-C light which improves the air quality, removes volatile organic compounds along with virus and bacteria and filters out hazardous smoke. This purifier can easily fit in the cup holder slot of all Tata cars.

The air filter is capable of filtering out bacteria and virus of upto 0.3 microns, thereby improving the quality of the in-cabin air and saving customers from allergic reactions and respiratory disorders. This filter can be installed in the Nexon and the Harrier as of now. It will be available in other cars too. The

The sanitization kit provides customers with hygiene items like a hand sanitizer, N95 masks, hand gloves, safety touch key, tissue box, mist diffuser and a driving kit with covers for the exposed touch points like the steering wheel, handbrake, gear knob and the seats.

Additionally, Tata Motors is also offering a vehicle air and surface disinfectant service. Once kept in a closed car for 20 minutes, the system disinfects the in- cabin space. Lastly, to maintain safe distance between the driver and the passengers, the company has launched separator films, which creates a barrier between the front occupants and the rear passengers, thereby enhancing their safety.

Tata Motors has come up with a new technique to handle current situation for new car buyers:
  • Customers will be delivered a fully sanitised new vehicle from the Tata Motors dealerships.
  • Specially designed labels confirming ‘Sanitised by Tata Motors’ will be pasted on the vehicle post sanitisation
  • The vehicle will remain untouched by the dealership teams till it’s delivered to the customer.
  • The vehicle key too will be handed over to the customer in a sanitised and box, especially designed to avoid any direct contact of the dealer staff.
Sharing an excerpt from press release:
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Head Marketing, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors said, “At Tata Motors, safety is the top priority for us, our customers as well as our dealers at all times. Accordingly, we have taken utmost care at all dealerships and service centres to maintain requisite social distancing, minimise physical contact with the vehicles and enhance the levels of sanitisation and hygiene. With ‘The Sanitised by Tata Motors’ initiative, we are further instilling a sense of confidence in our customers, assuring them that they are always safe while engaging with Tata Motors. This will help customers conveniently access our ‘New Forever’ range of cars and SUVs.”

In addition, at all dealerships, discussions with customers are being done virtually using digital tools and any meetings, if necessary, are being conducted with prior appointments and post verification of all requirements. Documents for vehicle insurance and registration are being collected via mail or specially installed drop boxes and vehicle deliveries are being done only after all formalities are completed.

Furthermore, test drives are being offered on demand at the customer’s preferred location. As a practice, only one person drives the vehicle with a dealer staff member sitting in the rear seat to avoid any physical contact. Following every test drive, the vehicle is fully sanitised including replacing protective covers shielding the interiors of the vehicle that come in contact while driving.
