12 new Tata cars coming in the next 4 years

ImageResizer.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fNews%2fTata-alfa-platform.jpg

Guenter Butschek, CEO of Tata Motors spells it out: “We will have 12 to 14 new top hats between ALFA and OMEGA in the next 3-4 years”. This is huge and it is likely to take Tata’s market coverage up massively, to around 90 percent. So what can we look forward to? Plans haven’t exactly been firmed up, but you can expect the range to start with Tata’s H2X or Hornbill, then the new Nexon will be built on the ALFA platform, and Tata could even push the limits of the platform and try and do a Creta rival. The latter, however, could also be built on a platform shared with Chinese carmaker and JLR partner Chery (see below).

ImageResizer.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fNews%2fTata-sedan-concept.jpg

Tata says cars built on the ALFA platform will stretch between 3.7-4.3m in length, the wheelbase is stretchable to a not-so-insignificant 2,450mm, the front and rear track can be altered, and should engineers and designers choose, the cars, SUVs, and MPVs could be as wide as 1,800mm too. They are likely to have the biggest boots in their class, there will be a flat floor in the rear, and quality levels are likely to take a big jump up too, as around 90 percent of the cars’ bodies will be built by robots, allowing for great precision, and greater uniformity of parts.

Tata Elxsi And AEye Unveil Integrated Robo Taxi

5088rgqs_tata-elxsi-robotaxi_625x300_02_January_20.jpg

Bangalore based Tata Elxsi has unveiled an in-house developed RoboTaxi concept vehicle using AEye's iDAR platform. iDAR is the first fully software based smart sensor that supports dynamic ROI and cueing of sensors. It extends the range at which objects can be detected, classified and tracked to enhance the safety in an autonomous vehicle. Tata Elxsi's RoboTaxi is built on top of its software middleware platform Autonomai.

The autonomous feature allows the traveler to use a RoboTaxi from their current location to the selected destination with the press of a button on the screen. The fully autonomous vehicle encounters various scenarios, such as cross-traffic detection at a junction and round-about, follow the road ahead, and cueing the sensor with HD maps and V2X information. Tata Elxsi has done the iDAR integration into the avehicle, interfacing with the AD stack, simulation, vehicle testing and demonstration for AEye.

Tata Nexon, Tiago, Tigor facelifts to launch on January 22, 2020

hx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20200120121844_Tata-Nexon-Facelift-front.jpg

Tata Motors’ first launch event of 2020 – scheduled for January 22 – will be a big one. Alongside the Tata Altroz (which recently secured a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP crash tests), what will also be launched will be the facelifted, BS6-compliant Tata Nexon, Tiago and Tigor. Bookings for the updated trio have been open since last week, with the booking amount set at Rs 11,000.

All three facelifts follow Tata’s new Impact Design 2.0 language, and while the design of the Tata Nexon facelift is largely similar to that of the Nexon EV (to be launched on January 28), the facelifted Tiago and Tigor have a front side inspired by the Altroz’s, with a chrome-lined grille and a raised bonnet. Both, the Tiago and Tigor facelifts, sport redesigned headlights and a new grille incorporating several Y-shaped elements, while the latter also sports LED DRLs mounted in the front bumper.

I hope TATA launches a proper SUV on the X2 ladder frame with the BS6 2.2 Varicor engine to compliment the HEXA. When They could get the Safari on the X2 platform, a full size Body on laddder frame should not be difficult. It should do 80-100 units per month to justify volumes.

Tata Motors To Sell 4×4 Variants Of All Its Future SUVs With Safari Suffix

tata-hexa-safari-edition-1536x864.jpg

It looks like Safari suffix won’t be reserved for the recently unveiled special trim of the Hexa 4×4 as the company plans to use this moniker for all its upcoming SUVs equipped with 4×4 system

The company has revealed to select media that while the ‘Sierra’ brand will return as a brand-new vehicle, the ‘Safari’ moniker will reborn not s a model but as a suffix that will be used on the 4×4 variants of all its cars.

Speaking on the same, Pratap Bose, VP – Global Design, Tata Motors, has said,”We have 3 (iconic) names in the SUV segment – Sierra, Safari and Sumo. Safari we’ve merged it with the Hexa. The Hexa or any 4X4-able vehicle will be a ‘Safari’ edition.”

The Tata Hexa Safari Concept is based on the Tata Hexa 4×4. The handful of minor cosmetic updates that the show car carried went well with the off-roading prowess of the vehicle. For the uninitiated, the Hexa is available with an optional Borg Warner-sourced 4×4 system on select trims that makes the crossover highly capable off the road. Even the interior of the displayed vehicle had some minor enhancements in the form of updated upholstery and ‘Safari Edition’ badge on the dashboard.

Tata Ultra T.7 Electric – India’s First Electric Truck Detailed On Video

Tata-Ultra-T.7-Electric-Truck.jpg

Tata Motors unveiled the Ultra T.7 Electric truck at the 2020 Auto Expo in Greater Noida earlier this month and it has been well-received among the show-goers as well as the general public. The homegrown manufacturer having big presence in the passenger vehicle as well as commercial vehicle space has released a new video explaining features and range of the T.7 Ultra Electric.

It was part of Tata’s showcase of 26 vehicles at the 15th Indian Auto Expo and it accompanied the new-gen Winger and the Prima 5530.S facelift. While the Tata 4/12m Low Floor Entry Electric Bus is the company’s first fully electric of its type for urban transport, the Ultra T.7 Electric is the country’s first-ever intermediate commercial zero-emission truck.

Tata says the Ultra T.7 Electric can be charged fully in just two hours using a DC fast charger and it is quite an impressive time while the driving range stands at 120 km on a single charge in a driving stretch. It has top speed of 80 kmph and boasts features like air drum brakes, parabolic springs with antiroll bar, semi-elliptical leaf springs at the back and so on.

Mumbai: Tata Motors is winding up its auto retail business Concorde Motors as part of its strategy to move away from non-core businesses. Set up in the late 90s in partnership with Jardine Matheson’s Jardine Motors, the Concorde retail business over the years has been losing money on account of high costs and low volumes.

The company has registered a loss for seven consecutive years with cumulative losses crossing over Rs 366 crore.

The winding-up process is in the final stages and it will be consummated before the end of this fiscal year.
