Tata confirms four new electric SUVs by early 2024

Tata Motors has confirmed its EV roadmap with as many as four new SUVs coming by early next year, including the Nexon EV facelift and the Curvv EV.

  1. Tata Nexon EV facelift launch by September
  2. Harrier EV launch will come next
  3. Curvv EV to arrive early next year
The updated Tata Nexon EV is expected by late September, which will likely be followed by the Harrier EV, Punch EV and the Curvv EV SUV.

Addressing the shareholders, N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons said, "Tata Motors India, as well as JLR has extensive plans on EVs. We have launched a number of products already. We have a new upgraded Nexon, which will be launched any time this year. We will then be launching the Harrier, Punch and finally the Curvv towards the first quarter next year.” He added that by 2030, 50 percent of Tata Motors' passenger vehicles and 65 percent of JLR vehicles will run on green technology

Chandrasekaran said that there are extensive product launch plans for JLR too, and elucidated that the company will start taking bookings for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport EVs this October, before the new Jaguar EVs hit the roads in 2025.

Tata Motors and JLR had also announced last month that they will build a battery factory for EVs in the United Kingdom, which will have a capacity of 40GW.

  • Tata Motors EVs have covered a distance of 1.4 billion kilometers, which is an astonishing feat akin to three round trips to the sun.
  • The collective efforts of the customers have saved a notable 2,19,432 tons of CO2 emissions and a staggering INR 7 billion saved on fuel costs during the ownership of their electric vehicles.

Tata Motors and Tata Power Renewable Energy have entered into a Power Purchase Agreement to develop a new 12 MWp on-site solar project at Tata Motors’ Pune commercial vehicle manufacturing facility.
  • The installation is expected to generate 17.5 million units of electricity every year, which will meet 17.2% of the annualized requirement, potentially mitigating over 12400 tonnes/kWh of carbon emission each year.
  • The solar project is to be commissioned within six months after the PPA gets signed and will be a significant contributor to Tata Motors' long-term ambitions.
  • The PPA will include rooftop installations. This 12 MWp adds to existing 8.73 MWp summing to 20.73 MWp for Tata Motors across CVBU (Commercial vehicle), Pune.
  • Over the next few years, the company plans to expand the solar capacity of its Pune plant to meet the growing demand for renewable energy.
  • Tata Power Renewable Energy and Tata Motors have previously collaborated to develop a 16 MWp solar power project in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, which is slated to be the largest in terms of capacity in the state.

Tata Motors and Freight Commerce Solutions have signed a Securities Subscription Agreement and Shareholders Agreement for the acquisition of 26.79% stake in ‘Freight Tiger’ for a consideration of ₹150 Crores.
  • The SSA also includes a provision enabling Tata Motors to further invest ₹100 Crores over the next two years, at the then prevailing market value.
  • Freight Tiger is a digital platform that provides end-to-end logistics value chain solutions for cargo movement in the country.

The unveilings constitute of engine test cell for development of Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine and the necessary infrastructure for storage and dispensing of Hydrogen fuel for the Fuel Cell and H2ICE vehicles.

Tata Motors has appointed Sitaram Kandi to the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of the company, effective 1st April 2024.
  • As CHRO, Mr.Kandi will also join the Tata Motors Executive Committee.
  • In his current role, Mr.Kandi heads Human Resources for Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicle and Electric vehicle businesses and leads Employee Relations and Skill Building for Tata Motors.
  • Mr.Kandi will be taking over from Ravindra Kumar G.P, who has been serving as the CHRO of Tata Motors since 2018 and will be moving on to a new responsibility within the Tata Group.

Tata Motors reaches production milestone of 1 million units at Sanand plant

Tata Motors has reached the production milestone of 1 million units at its Sanand plant. The company started operations at this facility in 2010.

The Sanand plant is spread across 1,100 acres, including 359 acres of vendor park, and has over 6,000 direct and indirect employees.

Incorporating a lean process management system, the plant houses a press line, weld shop, paint shop, assembly line and powertrain shop.

The Sanand facility has a flexible assembly line and is known for producing various models of passenger vehicles (PV) like Tiago, Tiago AMT, Tiago.ev, Tiago iCNG, Tigor, Tigor AMT, Tigor EV, Tigor iCNG and Xpres-T EV.

"We are extremely proud to roll out the 1 millionth car from our Sanand plant. This facility has been pivotal in bolstering our growth story in India by responding to market needs promptly. This achievement is a testament to the high standards we set for ourselves and the commitment we have to our customers," said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

"Our efforts have led to higher consideration for our products and this milestone certainly reiterates the popularity of our products among consumers.
