I'm gonna tell you what you gain and what you lose when you buy a cheap car with android auto / apple carplay / bluetooth and other trendy features
So nowadays Indians seem to be very impressed when a car worth 6-10 Lakh offers these features .
Well , of course these cars come from reputed brands, have competitive price tags, you get super discounts and what not, but there is a very big curtain in front of the factor that allows companies to stretch their budgets so much to add these costly goodies.
Let me open that up to you part by part.
Have you ever realised why your car door never shuts with as much solidity as your older car used to?
Have you ever asked about the safety kit on your car to a dealer?
Most Indian Buyers Dont.
So the reality is that these Features are being added by omitting either necessary safety features or dropping the quality of metal sheets / primer and paint.
A fully loaded Hyundai Infotainment System costs 20-30 thousand Indian Rupees as compared to one Airbag which costs 50-60 thousand rupees when fitted from the company.
An approximate of 30 thousand rupees makes a marginal difference in total costs considering the number of cars with that infotainment system sold.
A simple example of the 2018 Elite i20.
This car gets every cosmetic feature enough to impress anyone buying a car. But as compared to its 4 Star Rating it got in 2015 with excellent remarks, the 2018 model gets a 3 star rating with a remark stating "unstable body structure" , but yet this car ends up impressing any indian buyer because it offers Apple Carplay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Navigation and a lot more, even Side and Curtain Airbags and ABS, yet if the body structure is claimed unstable, it clearly highlights that the quality under the skin has faults in it which is even better cost wise for the company.
Car comfort isnt about cosmetic and infotainment features, folks, its about how comfortable you are to drive when you know how safe you are, it is saddening to see this state of the indian market
Do not buy a car for infotainment, cosmetics and design, but put your money to something which feels solid, has good crash test ratings and is a good mix of both features and safety!
Because after all only when you can stay safe in a car can you utilize its features.
