German car maker Volkswagen sold as many as 8.16 million vehicles in 2011! This is the first time that the popular auto major has managed to cross the eight million global sales hurdle. The mighty German managed to pip the Jap car maker Toyota as the latter sold 7.9 million units in 2011.

Volkswagen saw an impressive 14.3% growth in sales as compared to the 2010 figures.

VW notes that their sure is a lot of work to do to flirt with the 10 million mark and it is getting aggressive in rapidly developing markets such as India and China.

You reap what you sow.

Toyota reached the top spot with years of dedication and providing consistant quality and trouble free cars.

But a short stint at the top made them lethargic it seems. Otherwise what could explain millions of call backs and introduction of products like Etios.

After 3 years of crisis and uncertainty, GM is back to track and regained the top position in car sales.

Volkswagen is in second and Toyota slipped to third after a short stint of 3 years in top.

Now its the turn of Ford to return back to glory.

General Motors has declared its total sales for the year 2011 to be a whopping 9.03 million units.
GM enjoyed a very strong 2011 with a total growth rate of 7.6 percent when compared with 2010. The cherry of the eye for General Motors was Chevrolet with the brand moving 4.76 million units around the world in 2011. Leading the sales for Chevrolet globally was the Cruze compact sedan, which shifted 670,000 units.

VW sold 8.16 million units in 2011.

I don't think ford can take away this title. Well, it all depends on the people.

Ya i actually read about this in Top Gear UK edition magazine
just now checked out Wikipedia to verify,guess its right,

anyways off topic,China is biggest selling market for Ferrari,Lamborghini & also biggest market for Johnnie Walker scotch they have aged variants which you wont get anywhere else(saw it on tv),shows how much they spend.Oh & some guy paid like 8 crores for a dog some time back!

Ford sold 5.7 million vehicles globally.Ford Motors generated a revenue of $136.3 billion with the manufacturer posting a healthy growth of 13% .It posted a whopping profit figure of $20.2 billion for in 2011. What makes the deal infinitely sweeter is the fact that this has been their their highest operating profit since the year 1999.

South Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai Motors has registered an impressive growth rate for the year 2011. Hyundai Motors sales in 2011 grew by 14% while annual profit figures grew by 35.1%. Hyundai Motors profit for the year 2011 stood at $7.22 billion while their revenue from sales stood at $69.37 billion.
Globally Hyundai is ranked as the fifth largest car manufacturer, after GM, Volkswagen, Renault-Nissan, and Toyota.
In America Hyundai ranks fourth after GM, Toyota and Ford.
