The three new dealers – Jaideep Motors, Pulse Electrochem and VRS Motors – are 3S (sales, service and spare) equipped dealerships and has a team of well-trained and qualified professionals ensuring the highest levels of after-sales service and solutions to customers.

Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric said, “In-line with our commitment to providing the best EV products in the two-wheeler category across India, we have added two new state-of-the-art dealerships – Jaideep Motors, Pulse Electrochem and VRS Motors – in Bengaluru. We take pride in our dealer network and will continue to strengthen it year by year and be present in the most interior parts of the country.”

This expansion is part of the company’s plans to take its total number of customer touchpoints across India to 1,000 by the ends of 2020. To better help the existing and potential customers understand the benefits of electric two-wheelers, Hero Electric has fostered the teams at both the dealerships to a holistic training program. The purpose of this training was to help the sales team to understand and then educate customers on the benefits of lithium-ion offerings from Hero Electric. Some of the benefits include:

  • High energy density - Electric vehicles need a battery technology that has a high energy density, providing 10 times longer life than other technologies and last longer.
  • Self-discharge – Lithium-ion cells self-discharge rate is typically around 5% in the first 4 hours after being charged, which is much lower than that of other rechargeable making it quick and smooth.
  • Low maintenance - One major lithium-ion battery advantage is that they do not require any maintenance to ensure their performance, making the scooters efficient.
  • No requirement for priming- Some rechargeable cells need to be primed when they receive their first charge. There is no requirement for this with lithium-ion batteries.
  • Light Weighted – Providing almost 10 times more energy than other technologies, lithium-ion batteries are half the mass, reducing concerns about the kerb weight of scooters
  • Pollution – As the need of the hour is green mobility alternatives, Li-ion battery is a great replacement.
Hero Electric offers attractive and value for money lithium-ion models across low-speed and high-speed category. As the leading electric vehicle brand, Hero Electric realizes that for EVs play a substantial role in protecting the environment lithium-ion batteries need to be more popularized and be offered in vehicles that are affordable. Hero Electric does that through assembling and quality-checking their lithium-ion batteries at their Ludhiana facility to make it India adaptable and as a result they last up to 5 years. Furthermore, lithium-ion batteries used by Hero Electric in their products are ultra-portable and have a maximum weight of 8kgs. Enabling users to combat the range anxiety associated with electric vehicles, these batteries can be conveniently charged at any 3-pin socket plug adding a dose of practicality for everyday users.

The company has aggressive investment plans in the next three years to ramp up production capacity of its electric scooters to 5 lakh units annually, with a focus on low-speed scooters for last mile connectivity. About 15% EV dealers to shut shop post lockdown

CHENNAI: More than 200 dealers or 15% of the 1,400 odd electric vehicle dealerships across the country will likely shut down once the Covid-19 lockdown is lifted, said the Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV), the apex body for the EV industry.

EV manufacturers say most dealerships of two wheelers and e-rickshaws, particularly in tier -3 or 4 towns, are owned by first time entrepreneurs who don’t have the financial bandwidth to survive this crisis.

Earth Day 2020 - A Video Message from Hero Electric

Mr. Naveen Munjal, MD, Hero Electric and Mr. Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric have an important video message for you on the occasion of Earth Day 2020. As we all know we are living in unprecedented times and are being faced with numerous challenges because of the lockdown. However, the nature has benefitted from the millions of polluting vehicles on the road. This is why, India’s biggest electric vehicle brand urges people to ‘Switch to Electric’ to maintain the positive momentum generated in the environment amidst the global crisis.

Hero Electric foresees a significant increase in number of vehicles on road after the lockdown lifts, linking to the fear of public transportation. The company anticipates a steep increase of around 20 million two-wheelers and 3 million four-wheelers after the lockdown, not just adding tonnes of greenhouse gases to the pollution level, but another expanded future crisis. India topped the charts of the worst polluted country as home to 5 of the 10 cities with the most hazardous air in 2019, however as per a report by Greenpeace India, the pollution level came down by over 50 percent during the first 10 days of the lockdown imposed recently to combat COVID-19 outbreak. Hero Electric is encouraging a ‘switch to electric mobility’ to maintain sustainable environment conditions to protect public health.

Hero Electric foresees a significant rise in EV adoption post lockdown

  • Contactless transportation, economical mobility, and safe & sustainable commute options are few factors leading to the adoption of electric vehicles in the near future
  • Adopting the digital-first approach, Hero Electric offers multiple online schemes to foster adoption of electric vehicles
Hero Electric Family.png

New Delhi, 4th May:
With more and more Indians adopting the social distancing norms, the private vehicle sector is poised to witness a significant momentum in the country making way to a substantial increase in the adoption of electric vehicles as the idea of clean-energy alternatives are becoming more mainstream. Post COVID-19, the global electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure market is projected to reach 4.18 million units by 2021 from an estimated 3.42 million units in 2020, at a CAGR of 22.1% and India is expected to be a significant contributor to this growth.

The impact of COVID-19 witnessed air pollution plummet to unforeseen levels at 60% in New Delhi, presenting an opportunity towards the adoption of smarter and sustainable mobility solutions as consumers have taken note of the dramatic improvement in the air quality since lockdown. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is likely to change the way Indians commute.

While the majority of Indians would prefer private vehicles to reduce the odds of catching the contagious virus, they would also look for safer and economical commuting options leading to a further increase in the adoption of Low and City speed electric scooters, due to low purchase price and extremely low running costs besides ease of use, and low maintenance. Switching from ICE to Electric vehicles would also reduce any travel pitstops at the fuel stations given the fact that electric vehicles are supported by portable batteries further increasing the concept of contactless transportation thereby enhancing consumer confidence in these troubled times.

Mr. Sohinder Gill, CEO of Hero Electric said, “The latest Harvard report of the adverse effect of air pollution particularly the PM 2.5 emitted from IC vehicles on COVID-19 patients is an eye opener. Given the upcoming ‘new normal’ era, consumer focus on sustainable mobility options, preference of sensibly priced electric two-wheelers, and reluctance in going back to the overcrowded public transport system; Hero Electric foresees an exponential increase in the number of electric vehicles on road post lockdown. We have with us a wide range of electric scooters that have zero tail pipe emissions, priced between Rs.40000 to 70000 and have extremely low running costs.”

Considering the current scenario, it is almost certain that the Indian automotive sector will not be going back to the old normal market anytime soon. The new normal will bring in many challenges but multiple opportunities with it as well and Hero Electric is aptly prepared for it.

To make the adoption of electric vehicles effortless, Hero Electric has recently announced an online sales scheme on its entire range. Taking the online-first approach, Hero Electric has been able to act very quickly and take advantage of the time on hands by introducing a lucrative online scheme - INR 5,000 cash discount (all models) and INR 3,000 cash discount on Glyde and e-Velocity, along with referral discount of INR 1,000 - for potential Hero Electric customers and the response has been rather encouraging. Limited to all online bookings made starting from 17 April till 15 May 2020, customers can take delivery of vehicles any time after the lockdown opens.

The tentative total cost of running an e vehicle is between Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.50 cost per km, depending on the make of the vehicle, which is extremely competitive compared to petrol, diesel and even CNG vehicles. India’s first of its kind public EV Charging Plaza inaugurated by Union Power Minister

New Delhi, 20 July, 2020:
With a focus on enhancing energy efficiency and promoting e-mobility, Shri R.K Singh, the Minister for Power, New & Renewable Energy, today inaugurated India’s first public EV (Electric Vehicle) charging plaza at Chelmsford Club in New Delhi. While speaking at the occasion Shri Singh said, “The EV charging plaza is a new avenue for making e-mobility ubiquitous and convenient in India. Such innovative initiatives are imperative for the creation of a robust e-mobility ecosystem in the country. My congratulations to both EESL and NDMC.”

EESL is spearheading the EV ecosystem development in India by undertaking demand aggregation for procuring EVs and identifying innovative business models for implementation of Public Charging Station (PCS). EESL in collaboration with NDMC has established India’s first of its kind public EV Charging Plaza in Central Delhi. This plaza will host 5 Electric Vehicle Chargers of different specifications.

Speaking on the inauguration of public EV plaza Shri Sanjiv Nandan Sahai, Secretary, Ministry of Power said, “The charging plaza, with its compatibility with a wide range of electric vehicles will greatly spur e-mobility adoption. This would make EV charging hassle free and convenient for the consumers, thereby making e-mobility adoption an attractive proposition.”

Union Power Minister Shri R K Singh also launched today “Retrofit of Air-conditioning to improve Indoor Air Quality for Safety and Efficiency” (RAISE) national programme. At the launch, Shri R.K Singh stated, “I believe the RAISE initiative can potentially alleviate the issue of bad air quality in workspaces across the nation and pioneer ways to make them healthier and greener. I look forward to the success of their programme and wish both EESL and USAID best of luck for their future endeavours.

At the launch of RAISE, Mr Javier Piedra, Deputy Assistant Administrator, Asia Bureau, USAID said, “We just concluded the U.S.-India Strategic Energy Partnership Ministerial last week with a very engaging dialogue and a forward-looking action plan. I’m happy that one of its key deliverables i.e. RAISE is being launched here by the Honorable Minister just two days after the SEP. USAID & EESL have been working together to transform markets for clean energy technologies and have jointly developed this integrated approach that benefits consumers and the industry, while ensuring energy savings and better health. The solutions for indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and healthy workspaces in response to COVID-19 are relevant worldwide and this pioneering initiative has immense potential to be emulated globally."

Poor air quality has been a concern in India for quite some time and has become more important in light of the COVID pandemic. As people return to their offices and public spaces, maintaining good indoor air quality is essential for occupant comfort, well-being, productivity, and the overall public health.

In that context, EESL has undertaken a retrofit of its office air-conditioning and ventilation system. This is a part of the larger initiative to “Retrofit of Air-conditioning to improve Indoor air quality for Safety and Efficiency” developed for healthy and energy efficient buildings, in partnership with U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) MAITREE programme. EESL’s corporate office in Scope Complex has been taken up as a pilot for this initiative. The pilot focuses on improving indoor air quality (IAQ), thermal comfort, and energy efficiency (EE) in EESL office’s air conditioning system.

As per EESL, pilot project has shown very impressive results – about 80% improvement in Air Quality parameters with almost no implementation hassles. Considering employee’s occupational health and safety is paramount in any workplace amidst the COVID-19 scenario, EESL is keen to provide such solutions across the country with standardisation and demand aggregation approach.

Both the initiatives reaffirm the pledge for ecological preservation and building a resilient energy sector, undertaken by EESL and other key stakeholders during the “#iCommit” campaign held on World Environment Day.
