Tata Motors on Tuesday said that it will start a feasibility study for introducing the electric version of its compact car Indica in the
domestic market.

The company is currently developing the electric Indica with a Norway-based firm for launching the car in the European market by 2011.

Tata Motors managing director (India Operation) Prakash M Telang said that the company would study the market demand in the country before launching the electric Indica.

Telang said when asked if the company has initiated the market study
Not at the moment. We will start (the feasibility study) closer to when we have the product ready. We will do it from next year.
The car's introduction in India would depend on the cost factor as it is a price sensitive market.

Telang told reporters here
We have to look into the cost equation in India. We have to see the market demand as it will be an expensive vehicle...Electricity is also not easily available in the country.
The company had showcased the electric Indica at SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) annual convention in 2008, followed by its preview at Geneva Motor show this year.

Infrastructure is the main reason every time & second is the cost.

But TATA being an Indian company should come up with the EV's,they have so many plus points when compared to the rest.

I cant even find one reason why the EV wont be a HIT in India except the cost factor.[frustration]

this is good but it is also going to be bad if they launch the EV in the older form.

You are right but it would take some time for few of the audience in India to get familiar with Electric Vehicles, and As we have been always saying - Pricing of models is the Key to Succes For Carmakers in India.

Does that mean Making EV will be made compulsary?
Its not compulsory but every manufacturer to be in the competition & survive has to come up with a EV.So in a way yes its compulsory.[:D]

The word electric car - annoys me
Electric Cars are the future buddy.Manufacturers have come up with cars working on nuclear energy & they too have a electric motor.

Electric motors will remain but the sources powering this motor will keep on changing until we find the right one.[:D]

Yes! It doesn't mean that cars will run only on electric motors!

It can also be a combo of Electric + petrol or Hydrogen or may be water too!

No wonder. In future electric cars may become faster n efficient. Like in olden days the diesel cars were considered boring smoke emitting vehicle. But now with so many engines like TDi,DDiS,DICOR and CRDI diesel cars have become peppy and fun to drive
