Tata Motors has revealed a teaser image of the upcoming performance version of the Tigor compact sedan, which will make its debut at the Auto Expo 2018, along with a sportier version of the Tiago hatchback. The image, that shows only a small portion of the car’s front end, points to a significantly updated styling package for the performance-oriented car. Visible in the image, is an exaggerated housing for the fog lamps on the bumper, with the element further embellished with contrasting red detailing. By extension, we expect the front bumpers to sport a large air dam that would give the cars a more aggressive look.

There could also be more pronounced detailing of the likes we will see on new Tata’s made in line with the carmaker’s upcoming Impact Design 2.0 design language. Side skirts and a mild body kit are other visual updates that would set the sportier Tiago and Tigor from their everyday versions. Sportier alloy wheels will complete the look but, in the interest of maintaining a comfortable ride, it is unlikely Tata will upsize the Tigor’s 15-inch rims. That said, the Tiago Sport could make the switch to the larger 15-inch rims, presently not offered on the standard car.

What will undoubtedly also help the stance of the cars will be their lowered suspensions. Yes, Tata Motors and partner Jayem Auto, which is doing the development work, will go all out with a revised suspension package too, complete with stiffer springs for a more entertaining driving experience. As a consequence, ground clearance is expected to be marginally lower than the standard cars. Powering the Tiago and Tigor Sports will be the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol unit from the Nexon. Final power and torque figures for the sportier Tiago and Tigor will only be revealed at the Auto Expo 2018 but we expect the engine to produce a Nexon-matching 110hp and 170Nm in these applications too. The Tiago and Tigor Sport will also make use of the Nexon’s six-speed manual gearbox.

Tata has not revealed any details of the cars’ cabins but it is safe to presume sportier colour themes, more premium materials and bespoke detailing, which will help differentiate these cars on the inside as well.

Autocar India has also learnt that the Tiago Sport and Tigor Sport will be branded ‘JTP’ (an amalgam of Jayem, Tata Motors and performance, perhaps), which will take shape as Tata Motors’ performance division. There is, however, no confirmation as to when these models will actually go on sale.

Tata has toyed with the idea of a performance derivative of its hatchbacks from the time of the Indica and had a Bolt Sport in development too, but it seems the products are finally set to get the green light for production.

Should Tata build a performance-oriented Tiago or Tigor and would you buy one? Let us know in the comments section below.

The bodykit looks great but the foglight housing looks a bit weird, same with the color scheme. Lets wait for the full reveal at the Expo, I think it will make more sense when we get to take a look at the entire car.

From the looks of the Tigor's teaser, I am quite sure the performance spec Tigor will be on the lines of the Geneva Edition which I had mentioned even earlier on another thread. I am waiting for the entire picture but still, bringing performance oriented products finally to our market seems a very good move from TML.

Re: Tata Tiago / Tigor Sport Could Be Launched at Auto Expo 2018

Tiago Sports in Auto Expo:
- JTP logo which could mean 'Jayem Tata Performance'
- Turbo charged 1.2L 3cylinder Revotron Petrol Engine
- 110BHP @ 5000RPM
- 150 Nm @ 2000-4000RPM
That's quite cool. The specs look like the same as Nexon, and I think they may be using the engine with the same tuning as the Nexon. Shorter gear ratios, better suspension and the looks, all is quite welcome for the pocket rocket. Hope this actually comes into production and does not die down like the Bolt Sport. I guess a similar version of the Tigor would also be coming soon , in case this makes it to production.

I hope they have take care of the power delivery of the Turbo-Charged petrol. The Nexon petrol's power delivery has several flat spots through the range, not exciting and no proper drivability at all.

Wow...Pretty impressive although looking at the spec, may suffer from turbo lag. Any info on the Diesel spec. If Tigor comes with a improved Diesel engine spec, I feel that will pretty much cover the only weaklink in the product and can give the much needed volume.

Tata Tigor JTP 2018 Spied!

Tata Motors, in a joint agreement with Jayem Automotives based in Coimbatore are developing a performance version of the Tata Tigor sedan. The Tata Tigor JTP boasts of the latest IMPACT design 2.0 philosophy, gets more premium features and sportier styling and will hence be priced higher than the standard Tigor.

Tata Tigor JTP has been spied testing in India. It was also showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and can be seen commanding a bold stance. It receives smoked out headlamps, a new grille with matte finish, new alloy wheels, side skirts, red brake calipers, lower ground clearance and stiffer suspension and dampers.

Changes to the sides and rear include new ORVMs, a mild body kit, new rear bumper with an integrated spoiler and lower ground clearance. Compared to the regular Tigor, which measures 3,992mm length, 1,677mm width and 1,537mm height along with a 2,450mm wheelbase, Tigor JTP gets a lower ground clearance. Whle new bumpers could alter the length of the car by a few mm.

Interiors of the Tigor JTP will also receive premium features with revised upholstery with contrasting stitching and a touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In terms of safety, the Tigor JTP will get dual front airbags, anti lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, rear parking cameras, sensors and engine immobilizer.

Engine specifications on the Tigor JTP will be the same as that seen on the Tata Nexon compact SUV. This 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine will be tweaked for performance and will belt out 108 bhp power and 170 Nm torque. The engine will be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission sending power to front wheels. Fuel efficiency of this engine on the Nexon is ARAI rated at 17.6 kmpl.

Price of the Tata Tigor JTP will be higher than its standard model. With the Tata Tigor XZA top end variant priced at Rs 6.6 lakhs, the Tigor JTP could fall within the range of Rs 7.30-7.50 lakhs.

The exterior features several styling enhancements to complement the increment in performance. At the front-end, it receives new twin-barrel headlamps with chrome inserts, an updated bumper with a sporty diffuser finished in black, and a revised grille with a JTP insignia. The side profile is characterised by dual-tone 15-inch precision-cut alloy wheels shod with 185/60-spec tires, bold side skirts, contrast-coloured ORVM housings, and JTP badges on the front fenders. At the rear, the new model offers a black roof spoiler and a twin-barrel end-can. The Tigor JTP will go on sale in dual-tone exterior paint themes with a gloss-black roof.

The interior of the Tata Tigor JTP features an all-black colour theme with red accents on the AC vents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, black seat upholstery with a red hexagonal motif and red sewing. Other highlights include aluminium pedals and an 8-speaker Harman ConnectNext infotainment system with voice recognition.

The Tata Tigor JTP is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces a peak power-torque of 114 PS at 5000 RPM and 150 Nm at 2000-4000 RPM. The motor is paired with a five-speed manual transmission whose gear ratios are optimised in favour of acceleration. The powertrain provides City and Sport modes, while the exhaust is a twin barrel type for an enhanced aural experience. As per the company, the new model can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.38 seconds.

The safety equipment on offer includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors with camera, and corner stability control. The Tata Tiago JTP has a ground clearance of 166 mm, which is 4 mm lower than that of the regular version. Furthermore, the suspension dampers and the steering has been re-tuned to offer a sportier road handling and better feedback, respectively. While the brakes have not been re-calibrated, the company claims a reduction in braking distances owing to the grippier tires.

The Tata Tigor JTP is likely to go on sale for approximately INR 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Tiago JTP, Tigor JTP to be sold in 11 cities

13,263 Views 0 Comments
Tata Motors will launch the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP later today. The company showcased the two performance-oriented models first at the Auto Expo 2018. The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP have been co-developed by Tata motors and JTSV, in Coimbatore.

Bookings for both the cars have unofficially commenced at select dealers. However, we can confirm that Tata Motors won't be selling the JTP models across all its dealerships; it has handpicked 30 dealerships in 11 Indian cities that will market the performance-oriented cars.

The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol good for 114hp and 150Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and Tata claims the Tiago JTP is capable of doing the 0-100kph sprint in just 9.95sec, while the Tigor JTP takes 10.38sec. The duo also gets multi-drive modes – Sport for performance, and City for efficiency.

Both cars get a revised exterior with a new front bumper with an enlarged grille, chrome-ringed projector headlights, 15-inch alloys with wider 185-section tyres, side skirts, rear spoiler, a contrasting black roof and outside mirrors and ‘JTP’ badging on the grille, fender vents and at the back.

On the inside, an all-black interior treatment with contrasting red stitching and trim bits are few the key differentiators that set the JTP cars apart from the standard models. Additionally, red surrounds for the AC vents, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as the gearshift gaiter, features contrast red stitching on the JTP cars. Also standard are dual airbags and ABS with corner stability control.

Tata Motors is currently aiming to make the Tigor JTP and Tiago JTP accessible to its prospective customers and could add more dealerships to handle JTP cars in the future. Both the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP follow the same service cycle as standard models and can be serviced at any Tata passenger vehicle service centre throughout the country.
