Hi guys I am going to get my new car Tiago xz in Bangalore. Since it is a top model I am getting most of the features. I live in Sarjapur Road.

Here's what opinion I need. Also pls advice shops in Bangalore (or online) where I can buy or get these services. Also would be helpful if you can let me know the rates so that I can make my budget.

A) Services:
1) Under body coating - I have read, heard different opinions. Some say its reqd some say its waste. Pls let me know your opinion.
2) Teflon coating - Again the same confusion as Under body coating.
3) Sunfilms - Its illegal but can I buy. I checked 3M, rates were exorbitant. Max I can consider for front windshield around 7.5k but later and cops might torn them Im afraid. A local shop in hsr quoted much lower prices for 70% but I am still apprehensive of quality, cops. What brands are good here? Can we buy online and apply ourselves?

B) Accessories:
1) mats - In a shop they showed me flooring and said its much better than rubber or cloth mats and it indeed looked like one. Price he asked 2.5k
2) Door visors - will it help me attain more FE on highways and less dust if I open only 1" window I like fresh air on highways rather than being packed in ac. My brother says interior will get spoiled even on highways. In city though I will mostly use ac.
3) Leather seat cover - Dealer's artificial leather seat cover looks quite good compared to local shops so planning to get from there. Price 6.5-7k after discount.
4) Guard? - Seeing all bend bumpers in Bangalore. I am planning to get for back atleast. Some shop its not feasable due to low GC but I have seen it on lower cars. Car's GC - 170mm

Kindly let me know your opinion.

Happy Driving

Re: New car Accessories and services expert advice needed - Bangalore

Hi Abhishek,

Congrats on booking your new car.
Here are a few things that might help you.

1. vinyl flooring - 2000/- (most shops do it for this rate) - I know a place, he might agree for this.
2. Front windshield sunfilm - max 3k (there are lots of local brands available)
3. Bumper guard not needed, not advisable either. The bumper guard although useful @ low speed hits, on slightly higher speeds it does more damage than good. The crumple effect of the bumper is of no use & the whole impact will be taken by floor (may cause future alignment issues too).
4. Teflon coating - a scam
5. Underbody coating - good one, go for it. One time investment. Make sure once they wash the car's underbody, they blast air under the car and then let the car dry for atleast an hour before you get the coating sprayed. If not moisture gets trapped between the coating and chassy and does more damage.

6. Door Visors - They are useful in rain, also to leave a little open space when parked in hot sun.

Hello AbhisekVerma

ss80 has clarified most of the points.

Underbody Coating - I would advice to get this done. I have it on all the cars I have owned, so do the relatives and friends. Worst case, it will provide some protection/insulation if not more. No harm in getting it done.

Teflon Coating - This I will not recommend. Teflon coating doesn't last long, instead spend some bucks on dedicated treatments like paint sealant, regular wax, etc. from 3M or elsewhere. Else get a shampoo, wax polish and a polisher also if budget allows. You can do wash-wax yourself every 3-4 months depending on paint condition. Atleast this is what I do.

Sunfilm - Not worth the price. DIY is also not possible unless you are very professional or experienced. Applying without leaving air bubbles is quite a task. Go for magnetic curtains instead, or even regular sunshades will do.

Mats - Depends on your budget. Vinyl flooring and 3D mats, both, are worth the price.

Door Visors - Definitely not considerable improvement in fuel efficiency, but yes wind resistance would decrease if you have a habit of driving on highways with window open (1"). It is a good addition but go for good quality ones.

Guard - I agree to what ss80 has said. Do you like a bent/misaligned chassis or a broken bumper? I have seen them a lot in WagonRs and call center cabs over here, and my god, calling them terrible would be an understatement. Do not go for it IMHO. If you want protection from minor low-speed crashes, get bumper beadings instead. They are a lot more useful and good looking.

Regards,
Alpha

Re: New car Accessories and services expert advice needed - Bangalore

@ss80, @alpha thanks for your valuable suggestions. So its clear that teflon coating and guard is not worth.

@ss80, thanks for your wishes. Can you pls let me know which shops are good in Bangalore for flooring and sunfilms. You may PM me if you want.

Theres a small shop near to my home and I discussed the rates etc. Here's my new analysis with rates discussed with that shop.
1) vinyl flooring he said 2500 and 3d mats he said 2200 after asking discount. I can see flooring rates are more. Do we require both or shall I go for only one.
2) Sunfilm - for 3M he quoted 3.5k for all except front windshield, 6k for front windshield. He said 2k for all except front winshield for SRC brand (may be local I guess) and I think 3k for front windshield of same brand. But Im apprehensive whether putting local sunfilm especially on front windshield would hamper view and deteriorate by time. How much for magnetic curtains?
3) door visors are 1800 in showroom and 800 in local shop of galilo brand. Showroom one is definitely better look and quality and I may prefer but have to check.
4) Underbody coating Im think of doing after first service. Will service center be expensive? But I guess it would be more reliable than local shops atleast.

When you go for door visor, ensure they are using 3m tape to stick it.

Your brother is right, use AC on highways at least. You won't feel tired even after a long time and your interiors will look new longer.

I won't encourage you to go for Sunfilm as its illegal. Go for the Magnetic curtains. Should not cost you more than 2k.

Check with TASS for underbody coating. I did it in my Nano for 900 after discounts with 3 year warranty. It should not cost you more than 1.5k for Tiago. Ensure after the underbody wash, he blow dries the underbody. Else it will do more harm than good.

My suggestions :-

A)
1. If you don't stay near coastal regions then don't get it.

2. A big 'NO', not good for new cars

3. Zero idea, Sorry

B)
1. Best combination is 4D/3D mats plus Normad Mats (but check if it hinders clutch action)

2. Again 'NO' for high speeds run with window down. It will decrease FE due to flow of air wind and it's pressure. Though its helpful in rainy season.

3. Get Custom Stitch from your local guy to match exteriors and interior combo. Will cost less too.

4. Best is to go with OEM Bumper Corner Protectors, cost is around 950 INR. I suggest OEM coz it blends with the design of car and does not look as a sore thumb.

I had door visors in my previous car but never felt fresh airflow with its puny 1" opening in my 5 years of ownership. Better to use AC with fresh air mode (turn off re-circulation).

^^ Agree to both, there are several good ones out there in aliexpress.com. Tiago's AC is a bone chiller and does its trick within a few minutes of starting even in hot sun.
FYI - I just received this generic electro-static sun shades for all 4 windows from Amazon India. Will share feedback in a couple of days.

@ rahul - FYI - magnetic curtains are also illegal. you can't put anything on the windows as per law.

@ prabhagar - this seems like a bad choice. there's no way the curtains will stay on the window without the suction cups. you will have to fix this by fitting it between the window and the door.
just return the product. and these shouldn't cost you more than 200 rs if you buy them from people roaming near the traffic lights.

buy the magnetic sun shades which should not cost you more than 500rs. online rates are pretty high.
or else buy garware sunfilm. really vfm compared to 3m.

front windshield - 2.8k ( 70% visibility, 50% heat rejection ) , rest - 800 rs. ( 70% visibility, 25% heat rejection or maybe less , don't remember )

thanks everyone for your valueable inputs.

Few questions again

Mats-

I have 2 options: vinyl+3D mats. or 3m Nomad mats only without vinyl. Which one should be better. I don't understand why we need vinyl flooring when we have good quality mats like 3M Nomad or just 3D mats. Is buying Mat online a good idea as I can see in Amazon etc. but not sure about quality and if local shops will do the fitting if I don't but from them?
Autowheel Black 3D Floor Mat / Foot Mat (Set of 5 Pcs) For Tata Tiago: Amazon.in

Car Cover - Around 1800 from dealer. Any good one online? Has anyone tried?

Door Visors - The A/C, non-AC mileage difference is around 2-3kmpl and with ever rising fuel prices, I feel we can save a lot of money/fuel on highways and rainy days and installing Door Visors will get the car much less dirty. Even in hot sun, it will keep the car cool. I am not much worried about fog since the car comes with front and rear defogger and ac. But it spoils the look and aerodynamic property to some extent and removing is a trouble.

Sunfilm/Sun shade - Most of the cars now in Bangalore have sunfilms installed. Going for 70% (or more if available can give clear transparency). Sun shades are also banned I think and also block transparency. and can't use for front and rear windshields.
@allhyundaicars - Can I buy Garware sunfilms online and give it to a good local shop for fitting? I checked one or 2 shops but they didn't have Garware. The prices you are quoting look jaw dropping but is it feasible?

bumper corner protectors - I am planning to buy from Dealer if its not very expensive as Gautam mentioned.

Seat cover - I am buying from dealer as I didn't like quality of local shops stitching and am not concerned about color matching. Also the quality available at dealer seems much better and very well finished. I saw it in a new car and the cover looked stunning.

Under body coating - Have deferred it for now. Would probably have it after 1st service.

Accessories [embarass]
1)Since my cell is USB Type C (1+2) - Thinking of buying online an adapter
adapter and a car charger

2) Planning to get air inflation kit and puncture repair kit later. Lots of puncture repair kit available online but not sure which one is good.

They cling very well to the window glasses, no need of suction cups:

The only downside is their ugly looks from the outside:

I will probably return them after a couple of days if they don't look any better (costed Rs 400 for 4 pieces).

This one on the front is my old sun shade which is nearing its end of life after its 1.5 years of duty (I remove them unless there is direct sunlight inside the cabin).

Hi Abhishek,
I use Sonax interior cleaner for seat covers, dashboard, door trims, steering and roof liner. It is mild but removes grease marks left by ASC folks very well.

Guys I am looking for pillows(not neck rest) for my Tiago, probably leather type. Can someone suggest some good company, model online or offline for pillows? It should not be too soft. Not too crazy about color as much I am about the quality. Pics are welcome.
